Lol, you've got that right. Its like soylent green but with water.

If you don't know what soylent green is... your too young and might miss the reference.

I have not owned an Igloo ice maker, but have had several similar ones, and trust me on this, if buying, also buy an extended warranty from Square Trade... these machines have a ton of moving parts (many of them plastic) and break down frequently. I am on my fourth one, three under warranty... one didn't even last 3 months. They DO make ice very quickly though...

I have one of these, but it's not an Emerson, not an Igloo. It looks exactly like it, though. Bought it on sale at Target for $130.

I didn't get an icemaker in my freezer because it takes up valuable room that could be better used for ice cream. However, when I throw a party, I need ice and lots of it. So I keep this packed away and take it out when there's celebration in the air. Or margarita cravings. Or both.

It REALLY cranks out the ice. The ice collection bucket isn't that big, but if keep emptying it, whoa daddy. Lots of ice. It is a bit loud -- makes a whirring noise and then the cubes are dropping and it can be a bit much. Sometimes I put it outside and let it work it's magic out there.

There's a little drain plug on the side that doesn't seem to want to seal so well. It's a bit of a dripper. I just put a towel underneath or a cup or something. Not a big deal, but I wish it didn't do that.

Can anybody tell me if this keeps the ice frozen. I have a really small freezer in the fridge in my apartment. I would like to be able to just leave this on so there is always ice available if it can do that.
thanks

The ice doesn't stay frozen in there, it melts and the thing turns it into more ice. So the answer is that you'd always have ice available, but it might be somewhat melty and the cubes would be smaller than when it first is produced. But yeah, there would always be some in there.

Thanks. I'm seriously tempted to buy one. I've always wanted a fridge with an ice maker, but since I rent it's hard to find one..

"A pint's a pound the world around."

There's been a lot of math thrown about in this discussion, but for approximation (which is all you need for a product like this), the above adage, paired with the knowledge that a quart and a liter are about the same size is all you need to do the figuring.

When a machine's output is affected by the ambient temperature, approximation is all you really need.

I don't believe you can 'store' ice in these things.. The ice will melt in the reservoir after an hour or so.

this comment would make more sense as such:

Is a bullet shaped piece of ice still an ice cube? or is it an ice bullet?

obviously the answer is no. it is a piece of ice in a shape that is not a cube. i don't think the drinks will mind though, maybe appreciate the change...

Another ice maker? This is the forth or fifth one in the past few days, thanks to at least 3 in the Woot Off. Do I need to make ice that badly? Nope!

I'm considering one of these because the ice maker in my fridge buttafuocoed a while ago. Getting kinda tired of buying bags of ice and transporting them home.

I'm not too worried if this doesn't freeze them fully - I'll be moving them from the ice maker to the freezer pretty quickly.

You missed the point - you bring your own electricity.

I think that should read 120V. But it is a low power consuming unit compared to the others. According to the manufacturer's spec sheet it uses 160W. It may not make the greatest ice but you'll be able to run it on the same circuit as the fridge and the microwave without tripping the breaker.

Roughneck campers can also plug it into their cigarette lighter using an inexpensive 200W inverter to make ice to soothe those aching muscles after a hard day of rock climbing. lol

I'm amazed more boaters have not picked up on this, especially cruisers who use a generator for 120 volt power. The marine stores sell a 120 volt ice maker, which makes 24 pounds of ice a day starting at $1,099.00 It's not "Eastmarine" but the opposite one.

Absolutely. And, while alcohol, gasoline, and cooking oil all weight less than water, they are close enough to use this for ballpark calculations, like "how much does a full tank of gas weigh?"

Exactly, camping is taking everything with you so you can get away from it all. And the corollary is as soon as a woman marries the perfect man she tries to change everything about him.

FYI...all well water is not the same!! Depending upon where you live and how deeply your well is dug, the water quality and mineral constituency of well water can vary dramatically. Some well water is obscenely hard, while some is soft yet full of iron and/or sulfur. Plenty of unlucky folks have water that is both hard AND full of iron. And even expensive water softening systems generally don't make delicious water out of waer that starts out very hard and/or full of metallic minerals.

There's nothing wrong with white ice. It usually just means there's some air (bubbles) trapped in the ice (although white ice also can be formed more easily from hard water).

I'm guessing that their definition of "portable" means it's not as big as a conventional refrigerator/freezer and one person can actually lift and carry it.
