I am an Air Force EOD Tech and these ones are kinda crappy for actual EOD uses. The crimper location is very annoying, the gerber is what I currently carry and we will be getting the new Leatherman EOD MUT here soon. Its a great multi tool for every day use though, and $40 is a steal. If I didnt get things like this issued, I would buy one.

I know this may seem crazy to some people, stainless DOES rust. Some are better than others but in general the good high strength stainless steels do rust easier than the low strength ones. Take your pick, strength or corrosion resistance!

Purchased 4 of these so far, two in black and two in the SS. Excellent tools and far better than the Leatherman. Received them with both the leather and cordura cases and don't care for the leather. Have had my original for over a year now and use it when I go fishing almost every week, always getting it wet and it is most definitely stainless steel. I haven't had any instance of rust

This is definitely not a key chain friendly tool. Pocket or belt are definitely the way to go.

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

It's made in the USA.

A friend of mine gave me one of these years ago and I lost it. Best multi tool I had. Would prefer the Tactical one though.

If you're a true man, you'll keep it on your hip in its snazzy leather sheath(it's a little big for a keychain). It's a wild-west thing.

in for one for my brother. the socket functionality sold me; and all the SOG stuff I've handled over the years has been quality.

I'm regretting not buying one for myself, actually, but don't see anyway to edit/cancel my order to avoid paying another $5 for shipping.

Email service@woot.com immediately, provide your order number and username, and ask nicely if they can amend your order to 2. It might happen.

I've run a very high end knife store in the past and these SOG tools blow Leatherman out of the water. Just because you're "the original" like Leatherman is... doesn't mean you're the best. Show me a Leatherman you can flip open like a Balisong one handed or one that can wire cut through a penny with no effort at all because of the gear system the incorporated... They took the idea of the Leatherman and improved upon it 10 fold.

is the blade legal to carry or do you have to measure it flat against your hand?

Actually, EOD tools are often conductive to allow for testing of blasting devices. That said, this model is NOT actually an EOD tool, the EOD version features blasting cap crimpers inside the plier and a spike for punching holes.

It has a 2.5" straight blade. Most states allow carry of folding knives with up to 3" blades.

I ordered one of these (black version) and ended up sending it back because the locking mechanism didn't work properly. What I noted:

The pliers are probably the best you'll find in a multitool

The guards do snap off easily; I think so you have the option of using them or not.

The knife was disappointing

These aren't for a keychain or backpacking (unless you don't mind the extra weight) but are more for everyday work use worn on your belt.

Lotsa stuff...

I use one every day. I am a tower climber and wireless tech and I doubt I could do my job with out it. I like it much better than the gerber line of multi-tools. I paid $69.00 for mine at Lowe's. This seems to be a good to very good value in my opinion but as others have said it is a bit on the heavy side.

Replying as a human who just happens to have ovaries, the possession of which have no bearing on my use of or capability of using a multitool: yes, it is a worthwhile tool. When one has a multitool, one finds it easier to do things that require scissors, blades, screwdrivers, bottle-openers, gripping, wire snipping, etc, when one does not have immediate access to one's toolbox. In transit (keeping it in one's purse, if one carries it), one can be... self-sufficient (to the degree that a multitool allows).
Also, it's got great stabbing potential.
After playing with a friend's SOG (twss?), I wanted one, as I've only ever carried a dinky little swiss army and a laguiole--both rather useless as far as these things go. Thus, I bought one.

I rose in rainy autumn and walked abroad in a shower of all my days.

No...not a key chain type tool, can be put on a belt though. Guess it would depend on the purpose...I've carried one in the purse, had on my gun belt when camping (hardcore), in my car, in my room, tool box, etc. Can keep just about anywhere (I wouldn't keep outside, but don't keep any of my tools outside).

I've got a black EOD that I've had for over a year and love it.

Bought two of these to give as presents.

I've got an itch to replace mine with a PowerAssist (the model with the spring assisted opening knives that open without opening the pliers).

I have three, one on my belt, one on a load bearing vest, and one in my bug out bag. Also, one is on "indefinite loan" to my girlfriend and one is sitting in my gunsmithing box, but that one is earmarked for sale to a friend.

Hey folks... new-ish Woot-er here. Am I reading correctly that each day there's a new/different coupon code (?) and it's usually in the description?

I've tried a few obvious things, as well as a couple things I see noted on the boards (serendipity, taxsucks)... but nothing works.

Any help?

THANKS!!

Heh, no, no coupon code in the descriptions. People are just trolling. It's not impossible, of course, but it's not anywhere near regular or likely. That sort of thing is saved for special occasions and the woot newsletter.

I keep mine in my saddle bag. There's no loop to attach to a keychain. Besides, keeping a somewhat expensive gadget on your keychain will make it more likely to get stolen.

Really? Mine has a keychain loop. It's on one of the hex nuts. It rotates out of the way. Of course, a 4" 9 oz keychain isn't my idea of a good idea.

Ditto as an IT guy. It makes life a lot easier not having to go hunting for a tool in the middle of a job. I've gotten to where I hate flying because I can't carry it. I'm actually retiring my Leatherman SuperTool based on the reviews here...

I own the power assit version in black oxide, and it's been the best tool ever. pliers have so much more strength than others on the market. Bought 2 today as gifts for my dad and brother.

FYI sog offers an engraving service, cool way to personalize as a gift. You can also take it to the mall at one of those gifts shops, anyway just a thought.
