I've never been impressed with these things. They're generally 'safety theater' - sold to folks who have seen way too many action movie scenes in which someone is stuck inside a car that is sinking underwater...

while on fire...

packed with explosives...

and a rabid beaver.

In RealityLand, any impact severe enough to disable your seatbelt release (that's all the way over in the middle of the car, remember) is probably going to leave you in no condition to leave the car. Any impact severe enough to jam your door is probably going to break your window out for you. And any...

... okay, having a flashlight in your car isn't a bad idea, really. But you don't need the other stuff.

:/ If I were a 16 yo I think this would only be a welcome gift in my stocking if there were a set of keys attached. Sort of has that same warm and fuzzy feel to it as the set of jumper cables my parents gave me a half year before I could drive.

Thanks everyone for the answers to my woot-off questions!

Looks like all the woot-offs took a break at the same time. Kids.woot and Wine.woot are stuck on their items as well.

One more question, are woot-offs usually on all platforms of the site? (aside from sellout and shirt)

I think I'll just use the back end of my mini-Maglite for the window, and the folding serrated knife that stays in the center console, with the flashlight.

I'm still hanging on in case the Sansa Fuze comes back up.

I have a feeling I'm in for a very looooong wait.

I like looking at this Woot By State map and seeing which state is the most paranoid.

If I lived in Texas though I would just use my gun to break the window.

I wondered if I was the only one that can't get the pumpkiny caps off! These things are insanely difficult to make usable.

Houdini was an extreme showman famous for death defying stunts. He was also well known for being able to withstand any blow to the abdomen. He died from injuries sustained when he was challenged by a young college student who delivered the blow before Houdini had a chance to contract his muscles in preparation.

For those still debating, taking off the cap as noted above has had different degrees of success (as I found out too). I might buy more, but mainly because I gave the others away and it's $2 cheaper this time than August:

East coast is all asleep (well, all but the few of us here) and Alaskans know their water is frozen solid. If you manage to fall in, you'll be hypothermic in seconds.

Actually got myself this a while ago...

Honestly regret the impulse buy on these (since I had the coupon code to burn then).

Not only are these guys clunky on the keychain...but they're very fragile too.

One I leave on my keychain and the other just sits in the car...both of them had the little plastic cover holding in the battery break. Now it's just an empty void.

Others have mentioned the difficulty in removing the plastic to get to the cutter. While it is a tad hard to remove, I didn't have too much difficulty. I imagine had not been so snug, it probably would easily detach and get lost.

TL;DR: You're better off spending on something else.
