OOOORRRRR... (and I want to emphasize the or)

...you could just enjoy being outdoors camping with the family without hooking up the wii to the Wall-E projector.

Nice try though.

drewmurr2 wrote:Does it have a rear projection mode?

My thought is on camping trips to set it up in my Scion xB facing the rear hatch, with the rear hatch open I can drape a sheet over the hole, then connect a Wii to both the projector and my car's sound system and proceed to play Wii with friends on a rear projection screen in the middle of no where.

**not everyone may want to play Wii on a rear projection screen in the middle of no where, but for those of us who do, is this the answer we have been looking for?**

This is undoubtedly a Quality Post. If anything, this person should be given a 5 quality post bonus for being so awesome.

No. Absolutely no. And as a school district tech support person I cringe at the thought. Lots of reasons.

  1. It's not technology approved for use in your classroom by your district.
  2. It's resolution is LOWER than even those old Averkey's you can check out from your library and hookup to an old TV -- and when's the last time you saw anyone use one of those?
  3. It's so dim that you'll need to run it in your supply closet -- not in the classroom where you have fluorescent lights and windows that can't be covered with blackout curtains.
  4. Your building/district tech support people may be too polite to say it to your face, but they will laugh and make snide comments behind your back.
  5. Did you notice that it has 320x240 resolution and no way to hook up a computer?
  6. See number 1.

All that said, my youngest has a short "loft" bed and I'm probably in for one for use at night in a dark room for a 20"-30" or so image from an old DVD player.

What's with all this district approval nonsense? In the School District of Philadelphia we use whatever the hell we can get our hands on. If the district isn't going to give me anything, they I'll use what I want.

I bought one of these off kids woot like a month ago. I got it and tried it out but it kept turning on and off so I called Jakks Pacific and they said to send it in for a replacement so at least they stand behind their product.
From what I could tell picture quality was marginal but for 30 bucks it seemed well worth it. When I get my working one back I'm thinking about modding the bulb to see if I can get some extra brightness out of it... otherwise if you want to see a picture at any reasonable distance from your projection surface the room has to be literally pitch black.

As far as I know, there has never been a mass marketed standalone device to convert RF to composite A/V. At least not this century./quote]

it's called a vcr. Any old one from a garage sale for $3 will work. the vcr has an RF input on the back, and even ones from the 80's have composite outputs.

That thing will almost definitely NOT work. There's not any "cheap" way to convert VGA to Composite like this projector needs. Unless your laptop has a TV out, you're stuck paying more for a converter than you did for the projector.

I ain't signing anything! What? It's not that kind of signature? Oh. So that's what it is? Oh. I'm still not interested.

Once your order has been shipped, woot will create a tracking bot. They will email you the tracking number, and you can also view it by looking at your recent purchases under "my account." They usually ship with FEDEX Smartpost

SpiceWare

Mine arrived today, tried it out with my Atari 2600:

Space Invaders

Berzerk

and a game I wrote, Medieval Mayhem - an updated version of Warlords, complete with arcade elements of dragon and multiple fireballs that were missing from the original home version. (YouTube video of it).

Hard to take photos of the projected image. It's quite bit brighter in person, though it's fairly fuzzy even after adjusting the focus. It's quite useable though. I also tried hooking my iPhone up to it, and while watchable the colors were off. Skin tones tended to pick up the other predominate colors in the scene.

Before you declare your Eyeclops DOA, make sure you have a video source connected. It's been reported above and in a previous thread:

SpiceWare wrote:I just checked mine - if there's no video signal the light does not come on.

mikeboyda wrote:Make sure you have a video input plugged in and running? It won't "light up" without one. I thought I had a problem when I hit power before adding a source and nothing happened.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. It does not work. No light. No nothing but a sad little hum. Has anyone had one that works?
Should I ask for another one, or count my losses and get a refund?

The light won't come on until you give it a video signal. Try hooking it up and making sure you have signal before you call it DOA.

Also received mine DOA today. Sent Woot an email, hopefully they will resolve this quick. This was supposed to be a Christmas present and I don't have time to shop for anything else now for this person.

Also, I had mine plugged into a VCR for testing to answer the question "Was it plugged into an audio/video source?"

Got this today. I'm not exactly sure what people are expecting for $25 but this far exceeds my expectations. This is a Christmas gift for my 10 year old son. After reading some people complaining about it arriving DOA I got a little worried, pulled it out of the box at the risk of not being able to repackage it for wrapping, and hooked it up to a Roku box. The quality was fine projected onto the ceiling from about 3 feet above the ground. My son will love it. Thanks Woot.
