the hardrive can be removed from this external case and put inside the xbox 360 s with very little trouble. i would call it compatible, but you need to be able to undo a few torx screws to get it out of this case.

Actually, if you strip it down the HDD slides right into the 360 slim's expansion slot. Just need a few torx bits handy to take the thing apart.

Still a fairly good deal but not quite as good as deal if you find a deal on WD Scorpio drive and follow some tutorials to hack the security sector yourself.

And before anyone asks or debates, you will absolutely positively NOT get banned on Live for using a third-party hard drive.

Yes the HDD itself is completely compatible with the Xbox 360 slim. I know this because I took my old hard drive and took it apart. Then just got a sata cable with power and data in one line and plugged it in. Saved myself 120 bucks at the time. Although if you ask this question on any "official" forums you will likely be banned for "hacking"

For the record, these drives CAN work in the slim, just not as is. You have to remove the 4 torx screws from the outer part of the hdd housing, then there are 4 more inside. From there, it can be connected to the sata connectors on the inside of the slim's hard drive bay. It's not perfect, but it works. I've ordered a hard drive enclosure from another site so that it fits more snug inside the slim.

If Micro$oft is unloading these on Woot, I wonder if a new, bigger drive is coming out soon in the retail channel? 500GB? Still, the price/GB for a bigger XBox 360 drive can beat the Woot price... I'm in for one, upgrading the 120GB drive in my ol' black elite.

Yes, you could take the hdd out of the case this comes in and put it in a new slim 360. You'll probably need the new hdd enclosure which you can probably get on ebay for a few bucks. The HDD partition codes used are the same so it should work fine.

Great deal. I was about to pick up a 20GB for 30. My 60GB is getting pretty full with Game installs. I plan to put the 250 on my main xbox and throw the 60gb on my arcade that I mostly use for netflix and family games.

Yessir. Just have to take the case apart (small Torx, or the right sized knife will do it), to reveal the actual hard drive, remove it to reveal the SATA connector and plug it into the bottom.

It fits a little loose, so I chopped up a bit of the Slims packing foam into a u-shape to cup it inside. Works great! The Slim even reads it as genuine M$.

Actually, these ARE compatible with the Xbox 360 S's... albeit in a roundabout (and non-Microsoft endorsed) way.

I purchased the 4-gig Xbox 360 S this summer to replace an out-of-warranty red-ringed system. I took off my old hard drive and followed these steps to install it in the new Xbox 360 S.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KeFPNcgx5g&feature=related

I followed his steps. Just need some torx screwdrivers, a hot glue gun, and some of the packaging from your new system. It works great! I'll replace my old 20 with this puppy in a heartbeat.

Also, I'm playing on Live just fine.

Possibly, but don't expect them to ever release a bigger drive for the old-style 360s.

The top of the page says 20 GB hard drive. Am I missing something?

KamikazeKen

a few points:
1. why would I need this much drivespace?
- by installing your games onto a hard drive, you get better performance when playing as opposed to just playing off the disc.
- by installing your games onto a hard drive, you extend the life of the dvd-drive. It's a known (although not all that common) issue to have dvd drives eventually die on the 360

2. will this work in a laptop or desktop?
- yes. inside this case is a sata 2.5" hard drive.

3. Why would I need this big a drive?
- In case you DO want to mod (hack) your 360 to play burned "backups", this drive will hold about 50 games.

4. is this a good deal?
- hellllll yes!

a75952 wrote:i havent even filled my 4gb in my slim...

trust me, install the games onto the hard drive... you still need to put the game disc into the 360 to start the game, but the hard drive is quieter and loads faster than the dvd drive

It worked for me with my old 360 drive, but youre going to have to crack it open and entirely void the warranty. It doesnt come apart easy, so theres definitely no patching it back together and sending in if you have issues. If you move the system around a lot then youre going to wanna search down a cheap slim hard drive enclosure from some e-bidding website ;)

Otherwise if its just sitting there, plopping in the drive has worked just fine. No problems as of yet for me and I swapped it over about 2 months ago. Kept all the data and worked as if it had been there the whole time.

I'm not disagreeing with you about a cheaper price. All I'm saying is that if you're going to point people to the cheaper prices, let them see all of them (and the more expensive ones) at eBay, not a link that's about to expire. This link is instead to the general listings, that's all:

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=250+GB+XBox+360+Hard+Drive

Edit: your most recent post shows an auction that isn't going to expire as quickly, but it's still an auction. Looking at one not at auction for $37.99, it's being shipped from China.
http://cgi.ebay.com/MICROSOFT-SALE-250GB-HARD-DISK-DRIVE-XBOX-360-MT89R-/280604434928?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item415553e1f0
Is it legit/reliable? I hope so. Again, I'm not saying you're wrong on cheaper prices, I'm just saying look at the whole picture (including the fact that if you're not fast enough, you're bidding against others on some of those (like 11 bids on one)).
Edit: I looked more of the 17 pages. I'll call it a night. So far, I've seen a lot from overseas (and some under a dollar). You're not wrong, just a question of who to trust your purchase from (and sometimes the eBay gamble does pay off).

Is the xbox 360s the same as the new small kinect xbox 4GB version? I watched some video tutorials and I don't think I have the same expansion slot they are describing.

Can I put this in to my 4GB xbox kinect?

EDIT: I am dumb, and was expecting this magic door to be on the top of the unit. It is actually on the bottom. So with the hack, this can be installed on to the new shiny xbox 360s and on the new matte kinect 360s.
