I have had this mattress for about a year now and I love it. I have yet to run into any problems that other posters have said. The initial smell wasn't a big deal either. I just opened a window and it went away after a day. Whenever people see it they want to test it out and always want one of their own, so I'm not the only one that thinks its great.

I put a memory foam mattress on my bed and it changed my life.

I own a king size Sterns & Foster bed, purchased for about $4,000 - 10 years ago. It came with a 25 year warranty but... my lower back and hips did not.

The memory foam mattress has made a world of difference.

edit: we did not *replace* my Sterns & Foster. We put a 4" memory foam mattress on top of it.

I got this mattress about 4-5 months ago, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
***LEAVE this mattress in a well ventilated area for 24 hours at least. It has a chemical odor that will go away in a few days

Pros:
-No boxspring required
-Firm
-Good compromise for my husband (likes sleeping on a rock) and me who likes something softer
-No squeaky springs

Cons:
-Used to have a spring mattress, so have to get used to not having the 'bounce' (which really helps getting out of bed in the tired mornings)
-You will 'sink in' a little to this mattress
-Initial odor

Conclusion: I like this mattress a lot, but not as well as my old spring mattress. However, that price is unbeatable!

We bought this same mattress. My wife tolerates it. I hate it. It sinks too much. After just an hour or so you'll feel like your laying in a hole. I am actually sleeping in our guest room because my back just can't take it. We're saving for another mattress. Do yourself a favor and use the money for a higher quality mattress. This one is no good.

all of the complaints of divets and the like have GOT to be large people.

i bought mine 7/18/09 and have been sleeping and playing on it ever since.. not a divet in sight. im 5'10 185 and VERY rough if you know what i mean.

zero complaints, if you are under 200lbs there should be no issues.

EDIT: i also use a box spring under mine. that *could* make a difference, but i doubt it.

I am not sure what rough means in your case, but I assume chafing (you should consider a lubricant). Maybe the quality varies, I guess beach blanket bingo becomes memory foam lotto. I can attest that weight does not seem the only issue.

Wish there was a manufacturer on here or where the foam comes from at least. If it doesn't come from the U.S. or Sweden the foam could very well collapse over time since there are no quality assurances. Even if it's said to be "made" in the U.S. it might just be assembled here.

Mattresses are very much a personal choice, so what you need to do is decide if a memory foam mattress would be right for you. Based on my own personal experience with memory foam mattresses--both no-name brands and Tempurpedics--here is what I can add:

1) Memory foam mattresses are for people who sleep on their sides, not their backs. The way it gives in to pressure points means that, while on your side, your spine will be correctly aligned. However, if you sleep on your back, your rump will sink down and it will feel like you're in a hammock. This is an uncomfortable way to sleep. Others have mentioned that they have gotten used to this, but this is not something you would want to get used to because it is very bad for your back and your posture.

2) Memory foam mattresses are not for people who like a firm mattress. While initially the memory foam may feel firm when you first lay on it, as the air slowly escapes from the viscoelastic cells, it will soften greatly. If you like the initial firmness of the mattress but find that it gets too soft or it dips too much after laying on it for a while, you don't want memory foam, you want standard high-density or latex foam, or a regular mattress.

I bought into the marketing put out there by the memory foam mattress market and ended up paying a hefty return shipping fee for the mattress I purchased, because it just wasn't for me. I admit it was indeed very cool to see it come in such a tiny box and then unroll to mattress size, but as there was no way I could restore it to that condition, I had to return ship it in a much larger box. That's something to consider.

you wouldn't want one made entirely out of memory foam! You'd be stuck in a pocket. You could never get out of the bed without someone there to pull you out. :-) Personally, I would like to see it be more around 4 inches of memory foam, but then I'm a big guy so if you're a more average size two an a half inches will be very comfortable amount of foam. I have had a memory foam mattress for about 12 years and would not give it up for anything, except maybe on new memory foam mattress!

Found some info at kokey technology. Here's a couple of pages about it. Not sure if that's the actual "brand" or not.

Care instructions

Manufacturer spec page

I am not sure how would work in the sitting position on a futon, but I have my memory foam mattres on a adjustable bed and it works very well on that. In fact I like it better on the adjustable bed than the original mattress that came with it.

Seriously - it's a cheap bed that fails in a very short period of time. I did indeed send my to the recycler when I bought a traditional mattress again. I'm 275... I just made a very large cavity that I... and my new girlfriend ... rolled into.

I guess if that's the case I would be unhappy too, the mattress I have is a temperpedic and I absolutely love it! I am 6'5" tall and 325 pounds and my wife is 5 foot tall and about average weight and the two of us have no trouble sleeping there is no divots or any other kind of signs that we have had it for 12 years. But I know for myself as larger man. Not having Springs is a godsend!

*thumbs down* I bought the full size version from Woot for my guest room last year. Three out of four guests found it a miserable night's "sleep". When two people share the bed, it forms a downhill slope to the middle they constantly gravitated to & from which they felt had to "crawl" their way up and out. I tried it out myself and, even for one, it creates a firm bowl-like area around you--not conformed to you--that becomes less comfortable as the night goes on. There was also a terrible, lingering, noxious outgassing which smelled like strong, pervasive, cheap perfume, caused headaches and sore throats, and had to be dealt with by encasing the entire mattress in heavy plastic, followed by a more skin-friendly mattress pad. I'm looking for a replacement.

P.S. Only one of those guests was a tall, "larger" person. Even the skinny vegetarians hated it. And the smell??? I left the guest room/bath area closed off from the rest of the house with the windows open for WEEKS, and all that did was FILL the entire room and bath with the stench coming under the doors into the rest of the house with breezes. It was so untenable a situation, I had to reschedule guests until it was dealt with as noted above.

Awful and a waste of money. We got the king sized mattress on sellout.woot. as the queen was offered on woot.

It smelled but the smell went away.

It sunk in deeply on both sides where the spouse and I slept within 5-6 mos.

We bought a Tempurpedic and almost 6 mos later, it is still wonderful. Not a hint of caving in. As level as the day we got it.

I love Woot! but this one is a loser.

Save your money and buy one that will last. It was a nuisance tossing out the old one.

As an owner both a Tempurpedic cloud supreme and the "walmart" $269 mattress, I will tell you this is a complete waste of money. While you can buy 8 or so of these for the price of one single tempurpedic mattress, don't even waste your money on this. The tempurpedic mattress on the other hand, is worth every penny!

no sign of decay so far, though I turn it monthly to help w/that just to help make sure. The best sleep I have had, and this is while trying to get used to a CPAP machine. Aches and pains non-existent. Amazon has a denser (4 lb) Kings size for 445 plus shipping, w/2 free pillows thrown in.

I have a memory foam bed that bought for $600 from BJ's about 3 years ago and its still perfect and comfortable!
Years ago I had a high density foam mattress from Dixie Foam in NYC, before "memory foam" was made popular, and that was the FIRMEST mattress I have ever owned! Had a 10yr warranty and after 15 years it was still identical to the day we bought it!
Can't beat this price. Jumping on this one now!

I bought one last year, about 6-8months ago and promised i'd come back and report on how it went.

Not too well to be honest.

The first 3 months were great. I wasn't getting excess heat like some warned, I was getting a full sleep and I was overall enjoying the mattress. Then the corners of the foam started to taper upward, and the rest of the foam followed over time. The foam is no longer centered above the mattress, and has big rolling swells in it. It's not too terrible to sleep on now, but it certainly degraded a good bit.

Honestly, you get what you pay for. $250, despite being a lot of money for some folks, ends up being a cheap mattress. Spend good money on something you will be sleeping 8hours a night on. These cheap mattresses are simply not worth it.

edit: I'd also like to point out that I am a heavy guy, coming in at about 300lbs. It could be that my weight significantly decreased the life of this mattress, so please take that into consideration concerning my post.

Thanks.

Freekin foam mattress for - what?! - two hundred bucks?

Geeze. When I was a kid we went to the foam manufacturing place outside of town where they had a mountain of discards, played on it for a couple of hours and got foam mattresses for free.

With a little research you'll find that when they don't tell you what the additional layers of the mattress are, they're just plain foam, not memory foam. This mattress has only 2.5" of 4 lb memory foam. A good 4" 4lb queen foam topper will run you about $75 at Overstock. You can get a full 10" American Made for around the same $300 on Ebay. Sure this "mattress" will feel good in the short term, but in the long term, it WILL sag big time vs. true memory foam. The crappy foam will degrade as the good stuff retains it's shape. Also, if you're overweight go for a 5lb foam mattress, 4lb foam is great for a topper with the support of a spring mattress below it. Never support memory foam with cheap crap. And NO, you don't have to be a lard butt to make cheap foam sag, we just tossed out 2 layers of cheap foam on my 120lb daughter's bed as she ended up sinking in it.

For all the proud owners of this mattress, how does it hold up for some baby making action? It seems like it would be uncomfortable as it doesn't have a lot of bounce to it. I'm looking at getting one but not at the expense of losing the motion of the ocean.

We have a 4-inch memory foam mattress topper on our bed. It cost us $125 and we actually sleep now. I can only imagine how comfortable a 10-inch mattress could be. Because if I ever bought one, I'd never get out of bed. However, I would finally get some use out of my laptop.

I'm concerned their "air flow ducts" are just an excuse for not having a solid piece of foam. Also skeptical of the "high density" base. If it were really something to brag about, they would have given a pound density like for the top 2.5 inches (4lb)

to the

to the

its 4 strikes and out for me.

No one would want to sleep on a mattress made of nothing but memory foam. Not even Tempur-Pedics are 100% memory foam. They consist of one or two memory foam pads sitting atop one or two layers of regular "egg-crate" foam.

http://www.healthyback.com/store/sleeping/tempurpedic_construction.htm

What makes the difference between a cheap foam mattress and a decent foam mattress isn't the percentage of memory foam vs. regular foam, it's the quality of the foam.

It was used to replace a waterbed mattress... can't leak and doesn't need to be heated!
