If you don't want a case that will add bulk to your iPod, I highly recommend Zagg's invisibleSHIELD.

Not to be a jerk because I fully sympathize with your plight (yes I would be disappointed too), that's just the risk you take by accepting a refurbished item. It should work just as good as a new product, but cosmetic blemishes can and SHOULD be expected.

Besides, who uses their iPods naked? Once in a case, you'll never see the scratches anyways. As long as the screen itself is clear, it won't affect its usability. :D

Anyhow, moisture is known as the Touch's nemesis, but after a dry-out period, wouldja believe it still works? It connects to the internet, plays music, and composes polkas (okay, I made up that last one). The display is all water-spotty, but we're hoping it will dry out.

To be fair, I should mention that it went into the laundry inside a zippered leather pouch.

Still, the alarm clock app works, so I guess you guess say it takes a big lickin' and-

Well, you know.

Just make sure you leave it in a nice dry sunny spot. Rice doesn't really do anything, or else bags of rice would burst in supermarkets. The biggest killer is powering them on when the water is still inside.

Wow. I kind of wanted one. But the thing is I got a BRAND NEW ONE on Amazon for my son for 200 bucks and it came with a FREE 25 dollar gift card. So, woot... the price sucks on a used scratched up back one.

Besides brand new for 10% more?

Come on woot. You would have had me at 140 or "maybe 150 shipped.

No comment about the device, but iTunes fails on Windows machine about ever 4th or 5th upgrade. iTunes is "upgraded" about every month. The new version erases the old version. If the new version does not work, then one cannot change an iPod until a newer version is published. In the past, the Apple Tech Support did not respond to indivual request for help nor did they respond to blog request for help. I think they do read their blog, but they do not respond publicly.

We have four of the iPhone 4's (needed to keep up with the Joneses at the local high school). So far, really happy. iTunes gift cards keep the kids' purchases to a manageable level. I think iTunes is orders of magnitude easier that the POC media player; among other things, it knows that audiobooks come on multiple disks and plays them in disk/track order, instead of track order (disk 1 track 1, disk 2 track 2, disk 3 track 1, etc.). So if you burn your own, you don't need 32 unique albums to play a book in order. Battery life is okay, usually at least a full day before it shuts itself down.

It is inconvenient that it doesn't multitask; following a link from the stock quotes loses the stock application. OTOH, I can be certain there's nothing running in the background, running up 3G charges if I move out of wi-fi range (not a concern with this) or running down the battery.

I have to agree that 8 GB seems small; I have 16 and I'm running out of room.

I don't let my iTunes upgrade itself. Mostly, I try to keep all of my software from phoning home. I had to upgrade with the new phones, but not since.

I picked one up last month from Woot, and I really like it a lot. It's my first iDevice, and I'm impressed. I use it constantly (and am posting from it now). There are some negligible scratches on the back, but nothing major.

If you seriously want to take the plunge here, go for it.

P.S. Did someone say there's a Woot app? Pardon me while I head off to the App Store...

For $30 saving you get refurbished and 9 months less warranty compared to a new factory model.

If you really need the $30, I guess this is an OK deal, but I personally would rather buy new at such a low price delta.

Just a week ago I switched from Napster to Rdio.com. Both were $9.99 and offer streaming music. But Rdio app allows you to sync music so my iPhone can play it back locally in airplane mode.

For an iPod Touch this is an amazing feature; unlike Napster you can listen on the bus or jogging or at the mall when you have no wifi or other signal, because the files are local.

Gripes: the random play repeats artists A LOT, the website and app aren't sortable by column, and some music can't be streamed (AC/DC, Tool, Metallica are the ones I noticed).

Thanks for the heads up, but it's already understood that you're gonna expect some cosmetic degradation on the iPod. You're only a "sucker" cause you expected it to look like new.

Attention to Wooters: If purchasing a refurbished iPod with the chrome backing...expect some to a LOT of scratches on the back.

An easy fix is to buy a freakin case or skin!

I recommend Zagg.com for skins. 100% scratch proof apparently. So far no scratches on my Droid.

Joselama...I recommend a backing. Sorry you have to invest more because of cosmetic imperfections. Speak with Apple. They tend to hold their customer's hand. Maybe they'll replace the backing for you for free? Doesn't hurt to ask. Here's the number... 1-800-275-2273

Good luck.

I have a first generation iTouch that I bought a little over 3 years ago. Apple constantly upgrades the firmware of their iTouches, currently I think the firmware is at version 4.0. However, Apple released a statement saying that they would NO LONGER support firmware upgrades for their first generation iTouches, meaning I am unable to upgrade the firmware on my $300+ product I bought 3 years ago. This sucks because most of the 'apps' that I use are starting to be made to work ONLY with the current firmware, so I am no longer able to use these apps or future apps. For that reason, I will NEVER buy another Apple product. I have no doubt that they will do the same thing again. They purposefully stopped supporting their first generation product in an effort to force people to go out and buy the fourth generation.

I have a similar Apple device, and it's fantastic. The only downside to this is that you can't really change your songs when you have this in your pocket and don't want to look (whereas on my Sansa I can feel the buttons).

I did find a pair of cheapish (40$) Sony earbuds at Best Buy that provide you volume +/-, pause, and next song functionality though.

And I will echo some of the prior posts that 8gb might be too little for you to use as your primary/only mp3 player.

The new ones have a little "frustration" too. These refurbs have probably already addressed the issue and will allow you to get busy actually using it rather than spending endless time trying to figure out how to get it to work over wi-fi even though it is connected adn showing a valid connection to wi-fi. Do a web search on the topic. Most of the fixes are a scam fabricated by teens but I did find the one that works.

Apple probably fixed that when they refurbed them. That is why there is little price difference from a new one. People bought them, had the problem out of the box, and returned it for another which they may have also returned.

A refurb can simply mean that someone broke the seal on the packaging. Once it is opened it cannot be sold as new. Remember open box at Circuit City. Technically refurbed.

Do not confuse refurbished with remanufactured. There is a difference.
