As it is 50% off now.

No, we do not ship outside of the continental United States at this time. We do not ship to Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, nor to Maggie's Nipples, Wyoming or Assinippi, Massachusetts at this time.

I have not seen any numbers for readyboost attempting to work over USB 3.0, but that point is moot since there are practically none of those yet.

Readyboost over USB is just insipid, why would you swap a tertiary swap file over to your slowest drive interface?? Never was intended to work in practice, only in theory.

"practicallly none"? My mid-range laptop purchased from dell in Dec has usb 3.0 and is all ready for readyboost. Only thing we're waiting for is usb 3.0 thumb drives to hit a reasonable price, the usb 3.0 32gb flash drives seem to be stuck in the $90-$120 price range right now.

I got a 16GB here in June 2009 and, amazingly, still have the cap for it. It is a smaller form factor than my other USB flash drives and somewhat easy to misplace. Data transfer is on the slow side but is not unbearable. Handy for moving video and other large files.

There are only three reviews at Amazon and they lack sufficient detail. The first one dates back to 2009 and there are two comments you should read. Amazon does have a record of selling knock-offs and knocks offs are common in flash sticks, Many come from China. There are easy to do. Just get brand name cases and
insert very cheap flash meant for bios chips and such.
The cheao flash is designed and made for uses where the need is for Read Only Memory and occassional write.Put that flash in a USB stick and you get
failure in short order

Just so you know if it's not at least a G2, then it will be really slow.
For example, my SanDisk Cruzer 8GB is a U3 G1 device and it takes over 30 min to copy 8GB. My Kingston DataTraveler 100 G2 16GB device transfers 16GB in about 22 min.

Gotta pass on this one... I just picked up a refurb Western Digital "My Passport" USB 2.0 external drive (320GB) for $35 shipped (next day air!)... The thing isn't much larger than a deck of cards. At .94 cents per GB here vs. .11 cents/GB with the WD, it should be a no-brainer.

I bought a pair of Centon 4gb Datastick Sport versions in a Woot 2 for Tuesday several Woot moons ago. I kept one and gave one to my daughter. They both worked flawlessly for years until about 3 months ago when they both quit working within days of each other. It's like they had some sort of self destruct timer. Weird.

sdc100 wrote:I don't know if you're being sarcastic but on Woot, that is indeed a good strategy. That's because things sometimes sell out and Woot has a very generous cancellation policy. As long as Woot gets your cancellation before the item is sent out, they will honor it. That means a Grace Period of about 2-3 days. Note that I am, however, only speaking from experience, without any knowledge of their official policy.

PS - Don't abuse this policy or it'll ruin things for everyone!

Yes, this is an excellent strategy. However it is only for me to use, not you. If you use it too more people may do this and then *I* will have to do research *before* buying and I don't like to do that.

Using this strategy is abusing the policy.

So... Are there flash drives made for critical or permanent storage you don't have to backup critical data?

I really hate the idea of backing up critical data. Why bother? It's critical - shouldn't I be able to set a flag or something in the OS so it just knows that?

If you store data, critical data, and you don't back it up you're an human. I don't care how good your storage medium is.

For those with cap retention issues, get a usb wallet. You can pop the stick out and leave the cap in the wallet.

Just click on the item pic of the main Woot! page and you usually get an alt image. Most times w/ what parts (cables, parts) come w/ the item.

Then just just page back... to get to the listing

Item today had a very short depth of field to give the back of the item a softer focus, gives it a look of "size and maybe dynamics"

Looking though the negative reviews I see some of them are having that problem. If you know the limitations of the device you plugging it into, then it should not be a prob.

Maybe if your using it on a Windows 98 box it will have problems. Consider it the same as a USB external hard drive. If you are having problems with it try reformatting it in Windows and it should work. NTSC would work on Windows, FAT32 format works on PS3, XBox and other devices. The only problem is to get a partition larger than 4GB on FAT32 you need special software or to be savy with Windows.

I believe 4GB(minus 1 byte) is the file size limitation with FAT32.
