Biggest complaint I'm seeing about this drive is speed. I hate the "standard speed" BS in the description. But I assume that if it's the same as my slow crappy SanDisk drives, it might write at about 6 or 7 MB/s (good drives write over 20MB/s).

So if you're going to transfer the full capacity to it... start it, go out to dinner and a movie and maybe it'll be done by the time you get home.

Ok, maybe not quite that bad, but it'll feel like it.

I can't honestly tell you since I haven't seen it for months. It's used at work for transporting data so it's presumably in the hands of one of my co-workers.

Here's a list of Centon's 32gb Flash Drives, so it's one of these.

Please keep in mind that USB flash drives are best used for transporting data and not data backup. Sure, they're fine for temporary backup but don't rely on them as your primary backup tool. Their small size makes them easy to lose, plus Centon apparently has reliability issues, according to users.

Another hint is to not delete the files you're transporting from the source drive until you're sure that they've been copied successfully onto your destination drive. That means to use COPY instead of MOVE, since MOVE automatically deletes the source files (without moving them to the RECYCLE folder, no less!).

Finally, I wouldn't recommend working off a flash drive unless you absolutely have to. For example, if you need to work on a text file or spreadsheet, copy the file onto the hard drive and edit on the hard drive. And then copy the final version back onto your flash drive for transport. (or better yet, email it to your self!)

gandalas wrote:Last Time I checked, 34.99 for 32 gigs is more than $1 per GB? Math failure?

I suppose if you buy 2, it is only 64.98 for 64 GB, so it is ALMOST less than $1 per GB, but not quite...

Many people don't factor in s/h when doing price comparisons, and that's okay. For example, when you do price comparisons of non-online stores, do you include transportation costs and time spent? I live in NYC, where a subway ride is $2.25 each way with no discount. That's $4.50 round trip, and it's generally not a pleasant experience. $5 s/h is then a bargain compared to the cost and time spent to physically go to a store that's not in my neighborhood.

So yeah, if you don't factor in s/h, it's less than $1 per gb. Unless, you always consider transportation/travel costs when shopping, it's unfair to include s/h here.

mynamesgrady wrote:This has been my experience with all of this company's line of products, especially with their RAM. It's pretty obvious at these prices, they cut as many corners as possible, using substandard parts and shoddy manufacturing practices.

If you keep this in mind, and aren't using this stick to store mission critical files on it that aren't backed up elsewhere, you'll get decent use out of it.

I can't really speak for Centon, but it's possible that their "Pro" line has better quality control than their lesser lines. For example, they may have less statistical tolerance for errors in "Pro" products, and those that fail may get relabeled to their standard line or at a smaller capacity.

For a month or two, when you (or at least *I*, lol) click on a comment link, it takes me to the comment, and then automatically goes to the top of that page. A hassle, as I then have to go back to main page of comment section, find out the ID of the commenter, go back to the comment page, and search for it.

Its been that way since I started wooting regularly in I think November. I had just assumed thats the way it was lol. I get the time off their post and scroll down to it.

So...I can connect this to my mouse?
I always wanted to know what was in her memory banks..can I copy her memory and then view it on my keyboard?

I work in neurophysiology research and a colleague is working on neuro implants that have a USB port bulging out the skin to collect data. It's likely that that the implants will first be used on mice, so yes these USB flash memories can be used on mice! And yes, I do apologize to Wooters who are squeamish about such things -- as I am. I passed on more than a few projects because I refuse to torture animals or guillotine mice.

In my experience, if you wait about 2 seconds more, Woot will indeed take you back to the comment. Yes, it does go to the top of the page first, but will eventually end up on the comment you want.

I do have to laugh at all the naysayers...in total, we're talking about 6 - count them 6 - negative reviews.

I can find that many about any product on the planet - likely alot more at that.

What about the thousands that have bought this and not reported issues?

Let's get real.

It's a great price for a 32GB unit, even if average transfer speeds.

FAT32 doesn't allow for single files over 2gb (think movies), but there is really good free open-source software that lets Mac's read/write to NTFS formatted drives (Google NTFS-3G).

Or "Pro" could simply be a ploy to charge a higher price for a cosmetic difference. Marketing departments love using words that convey a meaning of higher quality but have no legal requirements to meet before they can be applied to a product.

“LIGHT BULB!” ... – Dr. Gru
(Well, this was a light bulb moment for me anyway.) I vote this should be considered a quality post. Most of my Woot time is in the morning when I first wake up and my caffeine deprived body is not processing yet, and I’m waiting on my time release amphetamines to kick in. I've found myself scrolling through reading each comment... only to realize I’ve forgotten what I started looking for and I’ve skipped the one I was actually wanting to read more about. At any rate thanks for the tip. When I wake up I probably won't remember this or care.

Hi, LARRY GOODWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I got mine a couple of days ago and it looks others may have arrived, FedEx SmartPost is an unpredictable method. But if you watch your tracking info, your purchase often arrives a day or two before the tracking site predicts.

More to the point, LARRY!!!!!!!!, Woot says only that they can typically ship purchases within five business days (usually a week unless there was a holiday, like there was on Presidents Day). So if you're writing on February 21 after buying something on February 14, it's entirely possible that it will only be shipped that day. After that, it's up to FedEx and the post office.

It's all in the FAQ. Hope this helps, LARRY!!!!!!!!!!!.

When I say back up that's just it. Put it on the drive, put the drive in a drawer. If it makes you feel better, I have data backed up in 3 different locations.

But if I ever meet any one who doesn't understand the difference between move and copy, I'll direct them to you.)

Just a word of warning to everyone who is still waiting for their drive...

After 17 days, I finally received my data stick...its not new as they advertised....no manufacturer packaging. So, as far as we know, these could have been a return that Centon had a big stockpile of and got Woot to sell for them.

When I contacted service, their excuse was that "we did not advertise the product to be in a manufacturer’s packaging". When I explained that "new" means in the package (otherwise it is open box or used) I got the same reply and they have refused to do anything about it.

Oh well, at least I bought it on AMEX and they love to stick it to unscrupulous vendors. I think I will go visit the FTC and see what they say about false advertising.

Too bad, I used to like Woot and have bought several items.

Hahaha. This "SmartPost" really isn't so smart, is it?

Check out my Fed Ex tracker number 02927009713089411704.

I ordered and paid on 2/14. It was shipped on 2/17. I live in MA. It started out fine - it went to TX, then WV, then on 2/23 it showed up in MA. It's getting closer!

Then BOOM! - it went BACK to WV and it's been there since 2/26.

I guess I have to write Woot service if I want to get this thing
