When did the Woot writers start sniveling?

"I have a deep timber to my voice"

Ehh. Woot writers, that should be spelled "timbre"!

Apparently it's fashionable to have a signature.

Ah, so these are the reason that the rare earth metals in hybrid car batteries are so expensive.

I think I am going to pass on these and just go ahead and dust off my legos from when I was a kid. My boss is going to love the castle I am going to build.

Thanks. I was looking for a reason not to buy these. I want them, but I don't want to spend $35 right now.

I think woot has been pulling all of the green ones out of their normal assortment just so they can offer them today!

I bought the gold and black ones a while back. The major problem is that the coating rubs off on your fingers, which is especially noticeable with the black ones. So unfortunately, I don't play with them as much as I'd like.

But I'm a sucker for green shiny things, so I bought these anyway...

And not only that, but the two words aren't even homophones...

The word the copywriters should have used "timbre" is pronounced tamber...

Kind of how shirt.woot sells their ugly holiday sweater t-shirts two days before Christmas? I bought one this year and it has yet to be worn. No one wants to be the weird person at work wearing a holiday t-shirt in January.

I bought 2 216 silver coated bucky balls. After occasional fondling in my office I noticed the paint started to flake.

At first it wasn't a big deal, but then I started noticing my hands were totally metallic silver from the coating. I contacted buckyballs and they advised to "immediately discontinue use".

They were really cool about it and sent me a replacement however the replacement did the exact same thing after a month or two of use.

I never submerged them in liquids and took as good of care of them as I could but wanted to share that the coating sucks and may flake off.

[you] is awesome

Don't know if it's been said but the coating wears off. I was using mine mostly as a stress ball. This caused the coating to come off and now when I squeeze my balls my hands get black stuff all over them! Would not buy again.

Woody1150

Just curious. The people that have had the finish come off from their sets. Were you messing with them in a huge glob, kind of like a stress ball? I've seen people around my office messing with my balls (ha!) like that and I told them to stop. I could see why the finish would come off being used in that manner.

Thus far, I haven't had an issue with my black and gold sets. Well, except for some a-hole stealing my black set from my desk. In that case, I hope the coating does come off and it gives them cancer.

I've played with my black and silver ones only once or twice. The first time, with the black ones, all I did was break down the cube and try to reassemble it. I handled them for 15-30 minutes, I would guess. And at the end, my fingers already had some black dust on them. The coating didn't flake off in large chunks, but it was definitely rubbing off, and they were brand new.

They're still really cool, but once I get them in a shape I like, I leave them alone.

I've played with these and it's a lot of fun. The fact that this is two for one is great since I felt like just one set has too few buckyballs to make something interesting.

The consensus is pretty clear here: the coating will wear off. Zen magnets has a far superior product and no one wants to buy Buckyballs from the world's most douchy CEO. For those who seem confused about the price, if you buy directly from Buckyballs, they are 2 for 1. This is the same price, except in green. Check out their website: http://www.getbuckyballs.com/

First, I wouldn't buy Buckyballs on principal alone, because of their CEO. Second, you can get a similar product, much cheaper off eBay. Third, these are cheap quality, but marketed as good quality. The ones you buy off eBay for cheaper are probably, actually better quality. Finally, the coating WILL wear off. You can't argue with all the actual user reviews posted here. I am just waiting for Zenmagnets to post on woot again.

Back when they had the regular Bucky Balls, I bought a set. The casing WILL crack in two spots: the north and south polarization of each tiny ball. You can't explain that! It's just going to happen! They always connect in those places so they get more wear n' tear!

Since the Balls I have are in the basic color, it's not the worst thing to ever happen, though my fingers and nails turn dark and ashy after prolonged use.

Anyway, I'm not gonna get these because if you mix one color with another... HA! Good luck sorting that one back out.
