Good luck, my experience with them is that they usually wait till the 5th business day to issue shipping information. I even live in the Dallas area and could pick it up before they get around to shipping it. Unfortunately they don't allow pickup. I ordered one today, and I will be lucky if I get mine by next Thursday.

SquareTrade rocks, no doubt. Woot doesn't accept returns for the most part. and Woot is a One Deal, One Day site. So this is not going to be here tomorrow.

PS: Even if you don't like the tablet, you could sell it on a certain Auction Site located in a Bay and recover your loses easily, this never sells for less than $350 usually.

jlovell999 wrote:The screen issue appears to be the type of LCD panel they used. It doesn't "show" well when you get more than 20 or so degrees off to either side. Tilting up or down is more forgiving but still not great.

Since the problem appears to be the hardware used, putting a cover probably won't help. However, someone in an earlier post indicated that they put some sort of filter on theirs and they thought the viewing angles got better.

The way I use my tablet myself is to look at it straight on. Yeah, it would be nice to have better angles but this works fine for me. At the original price, for everything I got inside the unit, this was a steal. At this woot price point, it's even better (in my opinion).

Thanks for the reply.

Ok, I've been a Mac convert for a few years now, but can't afford an iPad. Im picking up this guy after reading all the positive reviews. But I have some questions:
what is "rooting"?
How do you do it?
Where do you get it done?
How much?
Thanks!

You must have better luck with getting your Woots faster than I do. I live in central Fl and if I get mine before two weeks have passed, I'm a happy camper. And I'm over the 100 mark in buying from Woot. Ground delivery is usually faster, but they usually take 5 business days to ship. So they might not even ship it until next Wed.

Rooting is breaking through the software limitations and taking full control of your device so you can install what you want without manufacturer limitations. It is called "Jailbreaking" in the Apple realm. You generally do it yourself, and it can take up to an hour to get it done, unless you do it wrong of course Even if you do it wrong there are many ways to fix it and retry. Go to The Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.. and search "how to install clockwork, a rom viewsonic g tablet xda" (first link) and it will have a step by step guide on how to do it. It only takes a few steps and at the least all you need is minor tech knowledge but most anyone can do it.

Heh, the only reason I get them faster is because I am close to Texas. My average wait time from clicking the Buy It button to the package at my door is 7-8 days. But that is with Smartpost

With UPS is usually only takes 5ish days

The tablet can't be purchased later with this deal, but I believe you have 90 days to buy the Square Trade warranty. Goggle Square Trade coupons and you will find 20 to 30 percent off coupons.
I have several Square Trade warranty's and the one time that I had a repair problem they were very good about paying.

Do any actual stores sell this thing? I've been trying to find a display unit so I can see the screen for myself, check out the build quality, etc. Sears sells them but didn't have any demo units.

I had Nookie Froyo and upgraded to this a while back. It is MUCH faster. You are going to hate the new screen though, the Nook screen is freaking awesome.

Most of the stores took them off the shelves due to customer complaints about the installed OS. The last I saw one as a demo was at an Office Depot about 2 months ago, it's now gone. They have improved the OS a ton but I still haven't seen any demo units, but stores are starting to sell them again.

I have the G-Tablet running stock Android. I have full market, HDMI Mirroring, every Tegra 2 game possible and a Dock to stream over HDMI to my 56" HDTV.

This is a Dual core Tegra 2 device. You will NOT find a better deal on a dual core tablet in a long time. I highly suggest people jump on this. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=841 for all you're rooting, adding Android Market, and installing ROMS.

I highly suggest the Vegan rom for the G-Tablet

It's all about the Flying Screaming Caped Woot Monkey I got last year!

In for one. I tried to talk my BF into getting one as well, but he seems happy with his 7lb laptop. He's willing to "share" this with me and go in on half. If it weren't for the fact that I already have an Android phone I can fall back on, I think this could be a major fight catalyst item ;)

Viewing angles and no backlit keys are a bummer, but it's a solid tablet and it's EXTREMELY fast.

Absolutely! I use comiXology all the time on mine. Just about perfect of the app. Just keep in mind that you will be holding the tablet at a slight tilt (5-10 degrees) in portrait mode due to the screen brightness variation issue.

Note that you can kill directed view in ComiXology and just do full screen viewing which is much better. 'Tho directed view is still handy for dense 2 page spreads.

ZebTheCalvinist wrote: The screen viewing angles aren't great, as has been discussed, but I think that it is due in part to a coating on the screen surface. I just put a Skinomi TechSkin screen cover on mine, and it actually helped with the viewing angles considerably. I would say it adds an extra 10-15* of tilt, which makes the screen far more useful.

Has anyone else tried this cover and gotten similar results? Anyone have other covers to recommend.

"DO NOT install TnTLite 5.0. It's been pulled. From the developer himself: "I am disabling all TNT Lite 5 firmware links." My tablet went to paper weight mode when I tried to NVFlash it (restoring it to the stock rom). Pressing power would not turn the tablet on. Been on the fence about buying a g-Tablet for almost two months and have had an eye on Amazon, Sears/Sears Outlet and eBay for the best price. Almost pulled trigger last week on Amazon when it was selling for $349.99 but didn't. Glad because when I got wind of this on Cnet's shopper page this morning I had to take advantage of this price.

It has a Mini-USB and Full USB 2.0 port

The Mini-USB port is what you use to actually get into the devices inner workings (such as adding updates/rooting) While the USB 2.0 port can run external hard drives or keyboards etc..

I had problems but eventually got it running. It's a super ROM but it's very hard to install. He rolled back to the most stable version (4.something) and disabled the downloads for 5.0 TnT. The 4.XX versions work fine.
