In regards to the Vegan rom, for anyone that isn’t familiar with rooting and rom replacement like me, I found a site that was setup just for us: http://www.blendblog.net/Default.aspx?tabid=36&EntryID=67. He has a step by step guide from beginning to end with links to the downloads. Roebeet, do you see any issues with following the guide that I have linked to? This is the one I am planning to use once I get my gTablet tomorrow.

This question might have been asked before so I am sorry if it was, but is the max SDHC card size that the tablet can address 32 or 16 GB? The description "16GB internal memory (expandable up to 32GB via SD Card)" makes it seem that the device will only have a max capacity of 32, whereas I have seen people talking about getting 32 GB cards. I just don't want to get a 32GB card thinking it will have 48GB total storage and find it can only address half of it. Thanks

Hmm...I just bought the square trade warranty with ADH, and I used the EARLY coupon and it was only $38.49. Seems like your's should have been less than mine.

Wow. That's a nice tutorial.

I was planning on playing with the stock version for a while so I would truly appreciate the improvements once I went to a modified ROM. I think that plan just went out the window.

Owners manual says it can take up to 64gb, and recommends 32gb. I can use anything up to 64gb. They recommend 32gb for "best user experience" whatever that means.

It was due to customers being humans and not knowing what they were buying. Same reason all the Linus netbooks get returned.

Got my tracking email yesterday. Shipped mine fedex smartpost. Says the package isn't even picked up.

Just an FYI to Woot. Smartpost is terrible at tracking. I've had stuff show up on my door before it even registers as picked up or in transit. I hope you guys aren't paying extra for the tracking service on it.

For anyone wondering, I'm in the Seattle area. I wouldn't expect it before Friday, maybe not even this week.

man oh man am i stoked. never had an android before and never dabbled this deep into firmwares. quite scary actually. so afraid ill brick it. im thinking about using tnt lite (lastest is 4.3.2 right?) but i hear vegan work well too.

i seen in your post (roebeet) you say not to use clockworkmod (cwm) for flashing tnt lite? cause of 1 day ota updates bricking gtab due to cwm?

so taking straight out of package and using an sd card. do you suggest just using the internal memory (sdcard) or using the micro sd (sdcard2)?

i read over nvflash and i think i should be able to do that just fine (incase i want to start from scratch?)

i still need to read/figure out what the adb tool is that you refer to and how to use it..

baseline is only needed if im changing roms from one to another not from stock (so i can go straight from stock to rom)

so anyways...i see the methods of using the sd cards (internal and external.)i need to put it the update.zip file and a folder named recovery (and its contents?) in the "f" drive (or whatever the sdcard or gtabs drive letter is.

is the "update.zip" file an unzipped file or is it a file inside that i need to take out (unzip something and pull out the file named "update.zip" to put with (not in) recovery folder)in "f" drive)

then do the rebooting ect.
since im going straight from stock should i data wipe? whats the purpose of the data swipe/factory reset?

and for future reference, which backup program/method (why do you need one? what does it back up) works best (non cwm) incase i want to try a different rom or something happens where i need my stuff.

many thanks in advance roebeet!

You can tether your android phone so the tablet can utilize the GPS.

Any chance you can detail that because I'll happily partake in such. I was going to try ShareGPS but it doesn't seem to support Android 1.5 (Motorola CLIQ - 2.1 is available but it runs horrendously and renders most of my applications, namely CoPilot, unusable).

Those ZIPs are all coming from that site (I checked) - so I cannot verify what they are. Imo, you should follow the devs instructions on XDA, and not that site. The instructions themselves seem sound, ie adding the latest pershoot kernel for example. But the files I cannot verify.

This is the security guy, in me. Once the links are changed, there's no way to know if those files are the same or altered in some way. I suppose that I should start signing my own ZIPs, as well.

Clockworkmod should work, and I know many people use t. But I don't recommend it for flashing, especially if the ROM in question has a bootloader update. As of this moment, the risk of using clockworkmod is low because we killed off the 3991 UAT mods. But it might be a risk later, so just keep that in the back of your mind.

update.zip is ZIP file -- it's how stock and modded ROMs are packaged. Many Android ROMs are setup this same way.

Btw, I just called Viewsonic CS and it sounds like they might be delaying their next firmware update. Woot! effect, perhaps?

Just got mine this morning, sorry guys I live in TX so It only took 16 hours to arrive. I just flashed it with the TNT Lite 4.3 and I gotta say this thing is awesome! I have to also say I completely disagree with every negative comment of the features I’ve read about this device. From WiFi issues to screen brightness they are all wrong IMHO. Let me start with the wireless, our access point is over 50 ft away through several walls and Im getting great speed. The screen is not the brightest however if you’re not using a dark background it is absolutely stunning… now add a live wallpaper and you will not be able to look away! Install of the new rom was so easy but I was still so nervous from the posts here and on XDA Developers. But if you have every unzipped a file or extracted a download from the internet then you can do this. It is that easy! Hold the volume up and power and volia!
A few other tips before install.
Download - WinRAR – this is the easiest way to extract your files to the Gtab
When you connect your gtab to your computer it may not see it as a drive. If it doesn’t don’t panic. At the top of the screen you will see a round orange explanation point, tap that and tap “USB Connected (Select to copy files to/from your computer)”. There was no mention of this in the posts I read but if you’re not familiar with Andriod (Like Me) then you would know to do this.

Lastly – Thank you XDA and Woot! This thing truly rocks!

It'd be best to ask ST directly, but the fine print looks like it doesn't included anything (not even batteries) that is replaceable by the consumer, however non-replaceable batteries (they give an example of an iPhone) are covered. I'd guess that most tablet batteries would also be covered....

I wouldn't recommend using that site - the directions might be OK, but again its outside of our influence and you should treat it as such. I didn't even know those directions even existed until just now.

The other thing that concerns me is that they are hosting all the links - so we have no idea if they've changed something.

Imo, they should have dropped those instructions on XDA - that would have made more sense to me.

Ordered via Woot
cost $300 ($285 + $25 in tax - $5 coupon)
3/23 order
3/24 process
3/28 still processing
3/29 ship? (fedex yet to pick it up)
4/06 arrive (+$5) (*if* fedex picks it up today)

Ordered via TigerDirect/ebay
cost $299
3/23 order, process, ship
3/25 arrive 2-day (+$11)
3/28 arrive 5-day (+$7)

Ordered via Amazon:
cost $339
3/23 order, process, ship
3/24 arrive 1-day (+$5)
3/25 arrive 2-day (+$0)

Big frown. You know what would rock. If amazon let woot take advantage of it's shipping.

I paid $1 less using Woot compared to Tigerdirect or ebay, and only because someone was kind enough to suggest the "taxsucks" coupon code. Imagine if I'd not known about that and ended up paying more money for a product that's going to take 6 days to handle, and another 6 days to ship.

I paid $35 less than ordering via amazon, but I would have had it in my hand 5 days ago, rather than sitting here with an eta of 6 days from now.

Granted, I'd be less upset if it were a better deal and it would sting less if it weren't for the people posting about how they managed to get theirs last week. Lucky!

At least the community has been awesome. You guys rock, the informative posts on what to do with this once it arrives have been a massive saving grace.

Its Fedex I am worried about. I just think that the amount of orders is killing them and the info is not getting tracked in their automated system. It happens to me a lot on Fedex. I just hope I get it on Thursday so i can mess with it on the ride out to Wondercon since I am not driving.

Same. It's probably one of two things. Either they just haven't been updating, which can happen. Or, they're just going to "overnight" them directly to CA.

Either way, tonight we'll probably see a bunch of updates all within a 12 hr time frame. "Left TX, arrive CA sorting, left CA sorting, arrive CA, out for delivery"

I've seen it before. That's why I like FedEx. In my experience they're either on time or early.
