Yeah, my tracking info just updated as well, and now it's local. Should have no problem with getting tomorrow. Fedex just stinks with updates.

For those that have received their G Tablets (Lucky Duckies!):

Was the box the item was shipped in a standard Woot! box, or did was it the G Tablet box itself?

It came in the woot box, and inside there was some bubble wrap then the gtablet box. The gtablet box has some foam in it as well.

Looks like we have some new people here (WELCOME!) so let me explain some things...

It doesn't matter what time you ordered an item. We sell one thing a day. We don't process anything until that sale is closed at midnight.

The next day, our poor weary CS people have to go through all the "CANCEL MY ORDER!" and "I MEANT TO ORDER 3!" emails before processing can begin.

It can take up to 5 business days for an item to leave our warehouse.

You may get an tracking number but not see any movement for a few days because FedEx has assigned a tracking number from electronic info received from Woot. However, they haven't gotten the box in their hot little hands yet. Since this is shipping FedEx Ground, I'm assuming it's shipping directly from the supplier so the shipping info has to be handed off as well.

You can get your tracking number from an email that will be sent or from My Account. Check your spam for emails and instructions for My Account are in my signature.

Instructions for tracking your order at FedEx using your order number are also in my signature.

Hope this helps a bit. Main thing is to RELAX. I know you are all eager but just relax. Go check out some deals over at Deals or something. But mostly, patience friends, patience.

No. There are free and paid versions. You can check out apps at market.android.com

Here's a few apps that I loved on the Nook and can't wait to get on my GTAB:

DocumentsToGo
K-9 Mail
Got2Do
Pandora
DropBox
Angry Birds
Titanium Backup
Dolphin HD Browser
Wyse Pocket Cloud
Fancy Widget
Touch Calendar Free

Unfortunately, just like my Froyo Nook Color, the Slacker Radio app doesn't work.

Mega-Thanx! Appreciate all the good info.

Yeah, it's a problem. I understand why everyone's getting so excited.

I bought this thing because I thought it was a good price on a nice piece of hardware and would be fun to play with. Then I started reading all these posts and then XDA and now I'm totally stoked to be getting this. I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!!!!

Edit: I just recheck my status and WOOT! It's been updated and scheduled for Thursday delivery. I wonder if Elf's updated too?

How can I get flash back on my device?

I'm holding off on rooting for now, but I did factory reset, which took away the pre-installed flash.

I fugured I could get it for free, but it's not on the amazon store, and when I go to the android market it says that I don't have a phone associated with my account

A few cons with that one:

- Price. I think it's in the $550(?) or higher range.
- Not an ARM CPU, Intel Atom. Battery life suffers (notice the "4 hours", which I suspect is optional)
- Android 1.6

It doesn't really know what it wants to be, but at that price range you might want to look at other Win7-only tablets to compare it with.

Looks good & was just released March 7, 2011.

Surprised it's running older Android 1.6.

Surprised that it does not look like a dual processor, but it has a faster speed, Intel Pine Trail 1.66GHz CPU.

Surprised the rechargeable Li-on battery life is shorter at 4 hours.

For twice the price, would've also expected to have an ethernet port & an HDMI port.

I normally don't get bent out of shape on stuff like this, but once it's off the grid like that I have no idea what's in there.

I cannot condone that site because I have nothing to do with it. As far as I know, those ZIPs are filled with viruses, so it's in my best interest to warn against it. They aren't using the original files. The instructions themselves, imo, seem sound but if something goes wrong the user will most likely be on the XDA asking for help versus contacting the author of those instructions.

And you are right when you wrote "if those instructions are correct" - I have NO IDEA if they are. Should I now take a few hours of my life to verify that 1) the files are virus free and 2) that the instructions work in a variety of situations (Window / Mac users, 2967 3389 3588 stock or TNT Lite or CM 7 baseline etc) just to confirm that they are to make you feel better?

Finally - you are criticizing XDA for its horrid instructions to new users - I completely agree with you and, if you actually took the time to look at some of my posts over in XDA (start with the moderator one that's stickied), I've been asking for someone to clean up the site since the Woot! sale occurred. I don't wish to take this task on because I have enough to deal with, right now - I have multiple mods that I support and I'm trying to be a gateway between Woot! and XDA. And trust me it's taking up a lot of my time right now. And I have a 50 hour a week day job, too. Sometimes people like you seem to forget that we do this in our spare time - we aren't Technical Writers and we don't get paid to do this, save some "beer money" donations.

Now since you are criticizing so much about my writing abilities (and you did as soon as you wrote "none of you have taken a writing class"), might I suggest that YOU take on that arduous task? I, for one, would welcome someone to clean up the site and work on a Wiki or FAQ for new users.
Put your money where your mouth is.

Why don't you just copy the instruction from Blendblog site and put it on XDA's site. They took the liberty to take info from XDA site... I'm sure if you asked they would let you. Just a thought since it is a lot easier to follow than XDA's....

Because like roebeet said in his earlier post, there is infomation in those instructions that make it incomplete. He also said he does not have the time to add what is missing. He has instructions on XDA and if you can't follow them then its a pretty good idea not to at all.

Simply put... roebeet comes on here answering everyones questions and then someone has the nerve to put down his work. If you don't like his instructions don't use them and take your chances on the other sites files that may or may not have been altered.

I for one appreciate your work and thank you for all your help.

Of course you know what's going to happen now. The item will finally arrive, and like the earlier poster I'll have received a "pre opened" package where someone has already installed stuff on it. You think I'm upset about the lack of updates followed by the slow shipping. I'm sure you can imagine my reaction when I get a used item! =)

I'm sure woot won't miss your one and only order. Those of us that have ordered a more than once understand and appreciate the woot business model. I order often (though not as often as some), and I know exactly what to expect, and am generally satisfied. If your "post to order ratio" were flipped around, your posts might carry more weight.

Hey guys,

I'm the blogger from Blendblog (Sean Cullinan) who posted the how to with links that people have been talking about (http://www.blendblog.net/Blendblognet/tabid/36/EntryID/67/Default.aspx).

First, I apologize to anyone at XDA developers if I stepped on their toes for linking to binaries. I literally made those instructions for a vendor partner of ours as we are writing some tablet software and I wanted to make it as easy as possible for them to get everything in one place. I just posted my blog entry to make things easier for others not thinking that many people would be interested...then woot came alogn and I hope it did.

I know I can't "prove" to anyone that my binaries are legit and if you are suspicious than do as others have said and download the actual binaries from XDA Developers! I dont' want to take credit away from the good developers there, Roebeet, Pershoot etc. have really done amazing work to make the GTablet a great device! I was just trying to make their work as easy to understand as possible.

LEM- wrote:Do you know this for a fact, that they throw ground packages on planes? I am in the same boat as you - in 3 day zone, but my package, which just showed up in Irving is due on Thursday. That's two days. This may be because when Woot printed labels yesterday, they assumed that it will begin moving that day. I have a bad feeling, that the projection may change once it gets on the road (thouh I'd prefer to be wrong).

Here's why I have this suspicion. I was under impression, that there are differerent restrictions on things you ship via ground vs air. For example there may be an aerosol can in ground package, which is prohibited from air shipment. FedEx doesn't know what is inside, so I'm not sure if they are allowed to just throw them on a plane.

Once again, I'm only guessing this much, so if someone has more accurate information - please do correct me. I'd love to be proven wrong and to see my dearly awaited gtab as soon as it can get here!

Judy like I predicted... My package departed Irving, loaded on a truck. It drove by an airport and with a bit of sadness in the eye looked at the taking off FedEx cargo plane, then made a turn onto a dusty highway on the long ground journey to New York. It's estimated delivery date changed from Thursday to Friday, which is consistent with the map that was posted a few pages back....

So no miracles here, and no free "Advance to GO (collect $200)" card.

Most of the time you would want to link back to the original files instead of hosting them yourself. Also prevents your entry from aging if the XDA thread gets an updated file.

It's amazing that I've watched Woot for years but never did anything until this Woot came along. As soon as I saw it, I registered and ordered. Now I find it even more amazing that this becomes my first post.

I've been a member of XDA for a few years but I've never been too involved bc I don't have to knowledge many of the others, like roebeet, do. But I can attest to and commend those people for the amount of UNPAID PERSONAL they put into the site.

Now I can also commend Sean for finding his way here, explaining his side of the situation in a mature manner, and most importantly for giving credit where credit is due, to roebeet and all of the XDA developers.

Some people, who will remain nameless, could learn from both roebeet and Sean is all I will say.

Hi, this is my first Woot post. I have my expected delivery date from FedEx and I'm excited! IMHO, having to wait a little while in anticipation is just a bonus.

Roebeet, a huge THANK YOU for all your work and everything you do. Your ROMS and instructions are the reason I decided to get the Viewsonic G. I'm not a newbie but not a techie either, and you gave me the confidence to replace the ROM. Ignore the ridiculous troll--YOU ROCK!!!

And thank you too, Sean--I'm going to use your directions to do the job, and really appreciate your taking the time to post them for us.

The problem I found is that the original files were on megaupload and other similiar sites which can be a bit odd to some. I wanted to make it as straightforward as possible for the person I was working with so I just put the files up myself which is what carried forward to the blog.

You are right though, aging is a problem. Part of this for me was to get a stable build going and unless I have time to test an updated build/kernel I actually wanted to keep it at a known good entity. I did provide links to XDA devs and Pershoot's kernel page in the post and comments for those who want to get things at their source and also look for updates etc., and I in no way want to take away from their hard work.

Thanks for the comments!

The blendblog admin already PM'd me (and he's here, too!). I asked him to put in the usual "this is not XDA authorized please use at your own risk etc etc" stuff. So no worries there.

As for the horrible documentation over at XDA, I offered a suggestion of actually porting those instructions to XDA, He could ask the GTAB moderator there to sticky it, or have them put it in a FAQ or the Wiki. That would work, imo - plus, we can point the users to that admin (who has an ID on XDA) if there are issues with the instructions. That allows the instructions to be clearly visible on XDA for everyone on the community to see, and it has ownership if there are problems. I think that's a fair solution and would work for everyone.

Some of you might be (rightfully) thinking "well, why does it have to be on XDA?" - and my answer is that the actual mods originated there - and since the Woot! world (and I) have now seen it, having it on XDA (even as a just a link back to the blog) might be a good idea. No, and if it were me I'd report this back to the staff, here. It could be something simple, like whoever created the image screwed up and left their gmail account on there (FSM help them if they did something that foolish on 10,000 devices). But if it's just you then you might have gotten a return.

I can't speak for Woot!, but in my mind new = new. It shouldn't have scratches or fingerprints on them, and the packaging should look like it's unopened and packaged properly.

Btw, for anyone else reading this -- fingerprints are a tell-tale sign of human intervention. This device is a fingerprint magnet and, unless someone wipes it down carefully before putting it back in its packaging, you will see fingerprints.

A couple of pages back some of us were talking that maybe woot got the units that got pulled off the Staple shelves, maybe they got a patch/update and then were re-boxed for woot. But if this was the case I would think it would have been called refurbished, not new. But I guess if an end user never opened the box it is still new. So far so good.

My question now is I noticed a supplement TnT 4.3.1. DO I install that the same way as I did the 4.3? It's my understanding that by getting a supplement, I don't need to clear all the stuff I have set up....
