They both have to be rooted and custom rom to be fully functional, although the gtab current firmware has an option to use Android 2.2 instead of their 'touch and tap' out of the box, making it a bit more functional out of the box than the Nook color.

Am I leaving anything major out?

I wish I didn't have to pay Texas tax to woot, it brings the price up to $305 total for me, a Nook color costs about $50 less than that locally, making my decision a bit more difficult.

Furthermore, I bet this sells out pretty fast so I am tempted to buy tonight...

I never tried floppy but i did hook my g-tablet once to my computer and transferred data from my floppy to g-tablet without any issues... i don't think there should be any issue with that since g-tablet recognizes flash drive... i can't imagine why floppy should be any issue!!!!!

Not that many people are ever going to read this, but as an owner of a GTab, I cannot stress enough the importance of rooting and installing a custom user interface to get the most out of your purchase.

It only takes 5 minutes to get everything ready. You WILL be severely disappointed if you use the provided stock software.

I'll provide the links I've used below, if you cannot spend 5 minutes to set up your GTab correctly, you deserve the lackluster experience you WILL get.

$280 is a phenomenal price for this marvelous piece of hardware, go woot!

Romote will control the Roku.
VNC for Android will remote control a PC.
There's also a Western Digital Remote.

I use all three on my tablet.

I want a device with excellent battery life for one major purpose and all the rest would be icing.

Question is: Can I use this tethered to my rooted HTC EVO to access software on my office server and schedule clients at promotional events via LogMeIn?

If so its cooler and seems like a lot more fun than a net book at a comparable price and kick butt battery life to boot.

So....can I?

The Adobe PDF reader works fine.

I use Aldiko after importing the PDF, much faster, better searching, better bookmarking, nicer long-term reading features.

I owned this tablet for about 2 weeks although I only used it for 2 days (the rest of the time it was in a box awaiting it's return to the store). It has a terrible overlay over android, so if you like yourself some good ol' android - this will not be it! It is so big and heavy. Hurts your hand almost as soon as you pick it up, but wait till the pain of a few minutes sets in. OUCH! Felt just as heavy as the ipad.

I've owned and returned the ipad, gTablet, and the first Archos 7 home tablet. I've been using the second version of the the Archos (now called the Archos 70 internet tablet - The $275 one). IT'S AWESOME. LIGHTWEIGHT, and at 7" you can carry it any where like a paperback book. The ipad and gtablet felt like I was carrying around a delicate, oversized, top of the line laptop, that you just knew you were gonna drop sooner or later. The archos I throw in my jacket pocket, toss it on the couch, and just pick it up without a care.

If you haven't used a tablet for a week or two don't believe the hype that a bigger screen is better then a 7". It isn't, and it doesn't seem portable at all when you're trying to carry a ipad sized tablet around your house or school. I've NEVER had my 7" tablet in my hand and said "Hey! this is just a bigger version of my phone." It isn't and I use my tablet DAILY!

If rooting isn't an option and you don't like the pre-installed market you now have an Amazon app market. It's sparse for now but expect it to be a major player.

Both the PlayOn PC and device should be connected directly to the same router (on the same IP "subnet"). Advanced networking setups using additional network interfaces such as virtual adapters (VPNs) or Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) may work, but are not officially supported

"Rooting" is basically installing some bits of software that allows access to the unit's operating system as a "root user". This is unix speak for what in the Windows world is called "Administrator rights".

Basically it allows access to the device software beyond what the device manufacturer would prefer most people to have.

You can then make it your own or break it...

FYI regarding PlayOn...

"...Now that your device is "paired" with your PlayOn PC, you should now be able to watch PlayOn anywhere, either over Wi-Fi or 3G."

this was listed in the setup instructions on the Playon site HERE
