I'm cracking up at the email I got this morning from Woot. I had an unresponsive touchscreen I fixed by putting an empty calibration.ini file on a micro-SD card and rebooting, so I need to cancel yesterday's email to Woot about my tablet not working.

The phone number I was emailed this morning to call if I needed to cancel the RMA: 123-456-7890

I get the feeling the Woot people are working as fast as possible to fix this.

Could you please please stop playing those flash games on Facebook? I mean, seriously - FarmVille? Loss of a lot of man-hours! I wish you could donate your free time - I am in need of 36 hour days cos' I can think of doing so many things!

Don't mean it in a bad way, but please do other things on your tablet and not try enabling those flash games! Cheers to productivity!

Ah, gotcha. Sure enough they deleted just fine, and I replaced 'em with shortcuts to the new apps just fine. Thanks again!

I wish Woot! had a FAQ area - I could start writing up docs in there! Just read the posts on XDA on how to install cwm via the microSD card.

can we "preload" cwm and tntlite zips onto a microsd card? Or does it need formatting in the actual tablet?

Roebeet,

I'm trying your trick about mounting the gtab to my pc to force angry birds to install, but looking for the file in explorer, I can't find it anywhere.

If I go into market or amazon on the device it has to re-download so I guess it is not actually on the device????

smiling because you called it a "distro" - I actually caught myself writing that, yesterday.

Not sure if that was directed at me. I am obviously biased against my own mods, but I personally use TNT Lite 4.4.x, TwoTapsX (which is pulled, reasons are because it can soft-brick a device), and VEGAn. I've also used gojimi's CM7 VEGAn GB edition. They all have pros and cons.

If you play games or movies, I think TNT Lite or VEGAn are good because they both have the G-sensor hack. There's also Calkulin's ROM which is supposed to be blazing fast, but possibly not as stable. He's got stuff in there that I don't add to TNT Lite, for stability reasons.

You can sideload it using the microSD (if you have one). That doesn't get mounted to your PC.

Btw, check your build number. I'm positive that this was an old issue that was fixed in a newer build. This sdcard mount trick was something we used to do back in December, but I know that new ROMs / mods shouldnt need it.

masroorj wrote:Thats exactly what I did. I completely understand Roebeet's point about file integrity, and also the simple fact that the XDA forum is a community effort, so you have to cut it some slack.

I am now fairly comfortable with the process, and will probably only use XDA in the future. For a hitchhiker though, the XDA instructions can be a little confusing.

@Roebeet, would it be ok if I approached the blog writer to borrow his instructions, and post it to XDA? I mean, why re-invent a pretty decent wheel? Would there be any issue with that?

Finally, the device rocks with a modded ROM. Yes, screen angle is a pain, but thats solvable with a decent cover/stand. Otherwise, its a pleasure to use.

My tablet seemed to be brand new. The OTA update downloaded and installed last night. Tablet was actually performing well, even without the custom firmware. Just realized that the wrong USB cable was in the box, it's a standard mini-usb instead of the proprietary(?) USB it should have come with.

This does sound like these were either specially packaged for W00t or even refurb tested. Screen is not great at all. Same pictures themselves have patchy colors not smooth transitioning sky..

It uses a mini-USB, it's not proprietary. Left side of the device, in the middle is the port. Unless you got another tablet (and maybe you did - mistakes happen). :O

For some reason I can't find this simple answer (simple to me) :-)
Can I drop the TNT ROM onto my tablet like it did for the Vegan rom and install it using Clockwork (update.zip)? I know it has been mentioned that Clockwork is not really recommended for the TNT rom. But there are things in the Vegan ROM that I don't care for, so I wanted to try the others. Vegan seems slow to me.

Those are great, but I don't have and extra $50 bucks now. The "case I purchased has room for other stuff like the power supply and cards, yet is is still in a small package. I will be looking for a good stand that is not too expensive. Down the road, I will probably be more interested in those type of cases. Thanks for posting though because I am sure with 10,000 new g tab owners, those cases are exactly what some are looking for.

The mini-USB plugs into the side. I think the big bottom connector is for the dock.

This is true, but the cable that was shipped with my tablet doesn't have the right connector for the plug on the side of the tablet. I'm searching through all of the cables I have to see if I have one from an old device that might work. I'm thinking that woot might have some they can send me.

Not recommended, but yes it should work. If there's a ROM that does NOT work with clockworkmod at all, I would write that in my post. If you read my TNT Lite post, I do have a clockworkmod install section as I know that some people will use it.

As long as you are moving between 1.1-based mods, clockworkmod should work OK.

My gTab arrived on Tues, the 29th...D O A. I am a sad panda. Viewsonic CS was good. They are actually only a few hours away from me here in Texas (was not farmed overseas...YAY!). They issued me an RMA, but said it could take as long as 10 days. I am hoping since I am not too far away, that will save a few days on shipping. Still sad panda.

It may look different, but it may fit. I have a lot of mini usb cables that all look a little different but they all fit into the "standard" mini usb port. It's funny that HTC makes a proprietary cable to fit their phones, but a standard micor usb cable fits into to port and works fine.

Found a cable, the connector on the tablet is actually the standard mini usb, the cable it came with is micro usb.

I knew I was keeping all of my old cables for a reason. Looks like I'll add this one to that collection.

Roebeet,
First thanks for all the help I've seen on both this forum and the XDA one, you are awesome.

Second, I notice you suggest not to use the clockworkmod since it breaks the ota updates, and some of us might want to use that to upgrade later. My questions is there a way to partition using the suggested 2048/0 that doesn't use clockworkmod? It seems if I want to do that, and from a lot posts doing that fixes a bevy of issues, I'd have to use clockworkmod.

No you don't have to be home. There is no signature required, but if your Fed Ex is like mine, they do Jatravartid stuff like put my doormat on top of the box then stick their Fed Ex stickie on your door right in the middle so someone can see there's a package. Oh yeah the doormat REALLY HIDES your package for the world to see. Not. The bigger the box the dumber it looks too. I'm just lucky that I have lazy ass neighbors who never seem to work lurking about all day so I don't really worry about anyone walking off with my packages. Although that day I did drive home to put it in the house and left it charging before heading back to work. By the time I got home for the day the tablet was mostly charged (98%).

I'm too lazy for signatures... oh, okay not completely lazy.

That's what I meant to say. I guess I didn't state it very clear that BIOS chip was a kind of ROM chip. Thanks for clarifying.

gooberedup wrote:Actually, some of the later IBM-PC compatible computers came with EEPROM (mostly Asian made ones, particularly Korean). The EEPROM was the real precursor to the flash chips of today.

That's what I meant when I said "...had an extra port on top to connect a programming device" without specifying what the actual mechanism was.

Yep, but there had to be some logic hardwired into that mainframe that allowed to start spinning the reader and store the accessed bits into memory and then to execute the code. It was the predecessor of the BIOS, even if it wasn't sitting on a chip per se.

I'll be honest, if this thing comes out next week and it has everything in the specs it says it has, I'm probably buying one. My GTAB isn't going anywhere yet but this device will replace my SmartQ R10, most likely. It's really a Xoom competitor.

How did you get Glow Hockey on your device?

I am having some market issues. My device does not show up on the list of devices on the web and many apps I try to install can't be found on the market on the tab (like Glow Hockey) and only on line.

Tried the "Market fix" a few times and TB market tool did not help at all.

Anyone else not able to see the whole market, or not able to see the device online?
