This is a really great game I thought I'd recommend in the Android Market, for those who have it working. Nice racing action game that uses the tablet's accelerometer for control. And it's Android-only, which will be fun to mention to our iPad-owning friends.

Roebeet,

I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on the problem I'm having with trying to get an alarm to function when the gTab is in sleep mode?

Is it a ROM-related issue? Launcher? Android bug or the actual functionality?

I'd really appreciate any input.

I did the upgrade to 3588 and downloaded a few apps. Youtube doesn't work at all. When I tap on the play arrow the screen changes color and the unit freezes. I have to force close. It does it every time with every video I try to play. When I try to read a news story just after it starts to load it crashes and the home screen comes on. Anything I can do. Not very tech savy so keep it simple. Thanks.

I am planning to keep my gTab stock so I can keep getting the OTA updates. My issue is, when I get to a website, about 3-5 seconds after it loads, it flashed back to the home screen. This has happened with my router and in two other hot spots, so I don't think its a connection issue. It does not do this to me on the ViewSonic website or Facebook, but it does on Woot, Weather Channel, Yahoo, etc...

I think I understand if I do a data wipe this might clear up the problem. (I did the original OTA update already) If I do the wipe, will it wipeout my aps? My kiddo and I have taken Angry Birds Rio as far as it can go before the next release and it would break his heart to start over.

Thanks!

Looks like you got a few responses back - not too sure what the problem is, myself.

Not sure what's going on, yet. I left my device as 3588 stock just to see if a new OTA update is coming soon.

Mod it. Stock is nice, but it has issues, imo.

I would try a data wipe. And yes, it will wipe all user data and user apps (that includes those extra apps like Kindle and Flesh). Allegedly there's a MASTER folder where the apks are, and you can sideload them.

Sideload = install manually. Think of an apk like an MSI package, you click on it in an app like Estrongs File Manager to run it.

I've been playing around with my tablet for a few days now (I installed TnT, which works perfectly) and I have only found a problem: for some reason, I can't open e-mail attachments (well, I've only tried to open pdf files so far). The thing reads other pdf files with no problem at all, but it refuses to open attachments. I am completely new to the whole Android and tablet universe, so I wanted to ask whether this was normal or there is something I should do.

I'm having an issue when viewing the screen. I feel as though at slight angles (not that large, just slightly tilted) the screen looks like it's trying to display a 3d image. Like if I had some special glasses I would be seeing depth, but that obviously shouldn't be the case. It's actually very close to the feeling of looking at the Nintendo 3DS screen (that does 3d without glasses).

Is the viewing angle just that restrictive? or is something up with my tablet? It makes it very hard to read text.

Another issue is that VEGANTab seems to have decided to reset all my user data (perhaps when the battery died?) I lost all settings and market installed software. Is this a VEGAN issue? Did anyone else experience a reset like this?

I like it... it's definitely good to assist the value and usefulness of the tablet to have this much consumer cooperation. But then again I wouldn't really know about that as my gtab has only been able to travel from TX to KS in two weeks. Absolutely ridiculous shipping woot. My delivery date has slipped another week; I'll be lucky to get something I ordered in March before May gets here. Somebody sat on this for too long and then decided to get it to me via 18th century covered wagon.

Ditto on stock 3588. I thought like some that I'd keep the stock for a while and find out what I can do. Sorry to say that "I can't do much". Like YouTube, most web sites, and most apps, they bail out on me and I find myself back home. I'm boning up on nvflash and ADB before I mod it. From the comments from our fellow wooters, I feel confident I can mod it. Got another one for my LOML during the current Woot Off and she'll never put up with the stock.

cherman1 wrote:WHAT? I guess that explains the scratches and smudges on mine. I am still puzzled by files preloaded not by the manuwarpature but the vendor?

I would bet that a "vendor" bought all the return stock from the retaillers. Lots of units were likely never sold, thus new... And some of the units were returned as broken or defective. Likely the scratches came from the users before returning. The vendor then likely tested these 'return' units to ensure they worked properly, but was not fluent enough in programming (aka, reading XDA) to return the units to their 'new in the box' state.

This explains why the "vendor" doesn't have good answers, and some units are already used. But this is just a theory, as I have no evidence.

On another note, I got my iPad on Tuesday finally, after it shipped on March 8th. Only took like 27 days to arrive here on Guam via FPO (Fleet Post Office). 10 days to California, 17 days for the military to figure out how to get it here. My GTab got into the miliary's hands on Tuesday as well, so I'm assuming I have another two weeks before I get to play with my new toy and justify selling my iPad, which I'm already not fond of.

Roebeet, I bought a Sandisk 16GB SDHC SD Class 4 Flesh Memory Card on Ebay and it is too large for the slot. I thought I was buying the same card you were using (16GB instead of 32GB). Where did I go wrong? What can I buy that will fit the tiny slot on the Gtab? Thanks.

Holy posts batman1 it ttok me this long to get through these posts.

Maybe if enough people sent Roebeet a donation, he could buy a Xoom or even IPad2? ( ;) just kidding, no flames please) or he could afford a vacation-even better.

I am on Android overload, received my G-Tab the same week I bought my LG Optimus V. Between here and the Android forums my brain is fried. Like some people here, i started long ago in the late 70's with my Trash-80 II and Timex Sinclair w/16K upgrade mod.I've hacked/modded all types since the, but this type of programming in some ways seems less intuitive than other's structures from the past. that just means I'mma gonna enjoy this more! I'm thinking it just might be a plan to go and clicks Roebeet's name and use his posts, as a "Roebeet's dummies guide to Rooting/Modding your G-Tab."

Roebeet, coming from a guy who understands doing more work for no pay after work for pay is over, just for the accomplishment and satisfaction of helping others, my hats off to you my friend!

One use I plan for this I haven't seen mentioned is pairing this with an OBD-II reader and an app like dashcommand or Torque. has anyone done this? Is there anything inherent in running such apps, or using that hardware that one ROM or another would be best suited for?

Thanks to the community, this is gonna make a big difference sitting at dialysis for 3+ hours! If you know anyone who has to do the same, and most likely can't afford an IPad2, point them to the G-Tab, and maybe help them get it up to speed. I bet they'll appreciate and get plenty of use out of it and your help!

Apologies - it's a microSD, not a SDHC (someone else mentioned this). I hope I linked to my Amazon purchase so that way it was confirmed what I bought (I know I did that either here or on XDA, not too long ago).

This is what I have, it's actually a class 2 (but seems to act like a class 4): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WGJYCY/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003OA8T92&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0302RR62V3ZRB3FNYH9N

Yes, this is (unfortunately) common with the viewing angles. This happens in portrait, specifically.

Tmk, a forced data wipe like that is not normal on VEGAn. There might have been some corruption in there, if you had never wiped before. If it happens again, you might want to consider a SD repartition in clockworkmod (see XDA for details on that). I believe a few Woot! users have already needed to do that.

As for Skype and Email, I'm honestly not too sure - you might want to post them up on XDA (when it comes to specific apps, I know about the ones I use - for email, I never use attachments and I've never used Skype on the GTAB).

I actually have a Xoom. :O Got in on that great Moto price mistake, last month (see XDA or Fat Wallet on that one). I'm still waiting for the Xoom to impress me - it's got a nice screen, I'll give it that. But it still needs some work in other areas.

As for donations, I'm a big music fan and my donations have accrued enough for me to actually buy a turntable (yes, a turntable!). Came today and I am LOVING it! It's a Audio Technica ATLP120 and, typical me, I got it on a one-day sale at J&R. My old vinyl sounds wonderful on it and is actually better than some of the CD versions.

Well got my replacement gtablet and I'm happy to report report no dead
pixels or scratches but I got smudges and finger prints which are of no big deal. Plugged it into to the power adapter and it took just over three hours to fully charge. Powered it up and made some copies of the files before the 3588 update through the USB cable but it looks like the update is still not coming down?

Anyone know why?

Regardless...I'm happy and tempted to mod but still have a lot to read.

Wish I knew - I called CS about it today, but they had no idea, either (TapnTap supplies the firmware, and they are a third-party). I keep hoping that this is prep work for a future firmware update, but just wishful thinking perhaps....

Hey Roebeet, what's the best thread on XDA that shows you how to learn to use nvflash so I can get rid of clockworkmod?

I want to go to TnT Lite 5

Edit: This looks to be it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950

Would you recommend I do it in windows or linux? I'm not comfortable with either OS so I just really want to know which way is better. Linux Mint gnome or Winblows 7 64bit

Edit: I don't know how to do this: "At this point, open up a command window to the folder you created, and run this script" I imagine it has something to do with cd to that folder and run later stated command. But I don't feel too confident about that. So, I'll just do the windows version.

I'm running TNT lite and there are quite a few apps that I can not run. Apps like facebook, twitter, several TV apps etc. When I try to download these apps, I get the message that my device is not compatible.

If I instal VEGAn will I be able to run these apps or no? Which ROM allow the most access to the Android apps?

That's the one. I personally use Linux, but "Rev" wrote the post for me, as my Windows experience is weak. I actually find the Linux version to be easy to use, as there's no driver issues.

Can't speak for all of them, but Facebook should work on TNT Lite - you grabbing them from the Google Market?

First off, try a user data wipe (maybe there's some corruption that needs to be cleared out - I have seen this before on my own Tablet, usually when I flip between mods). Other than that, I would try changing the routers channel or security (just as a test).

I believe (working from memory) from the home screen hit the Settings icon on the right hand side dock then Applications then Downloaded Applications, find the app in question and select it and in there should be an uninstall button.

Stand for my g tablet: wooden 8-inch tabletop easel found in the photo frame department at Walmart for $3.50. Not as stable as a book stand but fits my needs and is compact. Viewing angle can be varied a bit by changing angle of legs.
