I realize this tablet is gonna knock the socks off of the SuperPad. But can any owner attest to one thing?

Does its accelerometer work worth a damn?

My current tablet can do things like rotate the home screen to keep it horizontal, but if I try something like Google Sky, or one of those Labyrinth tilt-the-tablet-to-roll-a-marble games, it seems 90 degrees off.

And I can't even THINK about trying a driving game and steering by tilting. That's right out.

How's the Viewsonic stand up in those regards?

Does anyone know if you can upgrade this from android 2.2 to a newer version?

Okay, prepare to laugh, but I need guidance and this looks like a perfect place to get some: I have a Handspring Visor (let the laughter begin) that's on its last legs. I use it almost exclusively for the calendar, note taking, and address book functions, but use it all day long for these. Obviously, I'm not replacing it at this point, but I definitely need to replace its functions. I have a Kindle, several MP3 players, a laptop, and a cell phone already, and since they all work fine, combining those functions into a single unit isn't a big draw for me, but I need something. The iPaq has limited appeal, function- and price-wise. Is a tablet really the way to go now? Should I just eBay another Visor and remain stuck in the 20th century? Advice?

It's not a phone, nor does it have a built-in 3G modem. There is no tethering to it for data.

Yes normally people in the US read from left to right. They usually start at the top of a paragraph and work their way down to the bottom. Once there are no more words to read then you stop reading the pdf.

From what I understand it does not support Flash 10.1 So might have problems with Streaming any Flash. And what is the MHZ of the CPU? I would have preferred a TFT multi-touch capacity screen 1024x768 (vs) 1024x600

One more thing that I forgot to mention previously... The screen viewing angles aren't great, as has been discussed, but I think that it is due in part to a coating on the screen surface. I just put a Skinomi TechSkin screen cover on mine, and it actually helped with the viewing angles considerably. I would say it adds an extra 10-15* of tilt, which makes the screen far more useful.

Does the thing have DRM built in? As in if Netflix ever makes an app for Android it will work on this device? I hear if/when Netflix releases an app it probably will not work on older devices because of DRM junks

But if it's true that you can put some type of Windows on this then I guess silver-light would work on it?

Edit:
NVM this is ARM not Intel like someone stated aka no windows

I had a Nook Color with Honeycomb on it... for one day. It was so laggy, I couldn't ship it back soon enough. The screen resolution cut-off on the sides too in portrait orientation, which was another deal-breaker.

Flash works just fine on the G-Tablet. I've got 10.2 running on mine now, and it has handled everything I have thrown at it. One nice function of the flash setup on the G-Tab is that it doesn't actually load the embedded flash unless you tap on it, which speeds up browsing and page load times significantly.

Also, with the resolution issue, that has to do with the "standard" Android aspect ratio. That helps the screen to display apps more effectively than a 1024x768 screen.

Can't wait to get it to tinker endlessly with it and hopefully get Android 3.0 on it.

Here is a good resource if you want to Tinker with one when you get it.

Somewhat on the fence. Price is nice. Basically, I can take what I had budgeted for Xoom wi-fi and get this tablet, plus the Nexus S ($199) that will be coming out soon for Sprint (SERO premier) and tether. And should still have some left over. Hmm.

playon works for streaming.

I'm curious about this as well. I haven't been able to stream Netflix on my G Tab from their website yet, and the Android Netflix app is just a queue manager.

how hard will this thing be to "root" ?

Load Z4Root and is rooted instantly. Takes 5 mins.

Is there a kindle app for it?
Yes, runs all android apps. Also runs nook, ebook, google book, etc.

If you like android this is a nice tablet. Very mod-able. Viewing angle could be better but overall very good.

I have the Archos and the specs are the very close. I like the Archos but paid about $100 more for it. The Archos is not a very sturdy piece of equipment but does work well. My guess is that both peices of equiptment are made by the same company and then OEMed to each of the two companies.

The 1.3 mp webcam is not intended for taking serious pictures anyway. It's the same kind of webcam most laptops and netbooks come with, so they're more designed for teleconferencing.

I am not responsible for this post.

I am tremendously happy with my rooted Nook Color with Android Honeycomb running at 1.1 Ghz and which is cheaper than this tablet.

Aitrusskyy wrote:This would be the 1 of 2 cheaper tablets that features the Nvidia Tegra 2 T20 Dual cortex A9(1Ghz) processor.

It is also 1 of only 2 tablets that have 4 of 5 star ratings with over 60 reviews.

The other is the elocity a7 which I just picked up last week and am now wishing I hadn't.

This is now the cheapest dual core 1ghz tablet you can grab.

If anyone grabs this make sure you check out this site for possible mods/additions to the device.

Sadly no GPS = no sale. That is a complete deal killer for me considering how many apps in android require GPS. I've got at least 2 dozen on my phone that directly use the GPS in it. No way am I dropping bank on a tablet without that feature. Pity. The overall specs are killer.

1.3 mega pixels is a perfect fit for a 4x6 print at 300 dpi, which is what most people print their photos at. Any higher resolution is really just useful for larger prints, which most people do rarely.

The ergonomics on this kinda blow, but on the NookColor you'll likely want to remap the volume keys since it only has a single hard control key and software menu & back keys

If you Root the Nook to Honeycomb, it uses the softkeys at the bottom of the screen (just like the XOOM)

It is capacitive touch - requires physical skin contact to work.

I have 2 Cruz tablets that are Android 2.1 and they're "fun." "Productive" would be overstating them, because the screen is fairly non-responsive, but that's why they're so cheap. I can post to my blog, enter invoices, do google docs, etc, but still...
They ARE good e-readers, too.

arctiki wrote:Current owners - can this tablet tether to an android-based smartphone to add 3g/4g support?

Easily, as long as the phone can offer its tethering via Wifi (and there are a lot of Android apps that can make that happen very easily, even if your provider doesn't offer it). However, at least with an Android phone, that means the connection is an "ad-hoc" connection, so the default configuration on most Android devices, including this tablet, will ignore it. However, if you go with any of the custom ROMs on XDA, they all contain the fix to make the tablet see ad-hoc networks.
