I just want to know..... Does Joey make the jump!?

Bought one like this a year ago from Bestbuy. Took it back in a week. Just didn't sound good. Love the solar abilities but that's as far as my thumbs up goes. I just let my phone talk to my GPS unit as it's always on and charged and it works great. Good deal to try if you don't have anything like this. The worst is you lost 20.00

Also, does his IOGEAR Solar Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit stay firmly attached to the windshield upon landing? Or did the suction cups fail upon impact causing the falling unit to strike him in the temple? That'd put an end to his precious getaway pretty darn quick...

Are those suction cups strong enough to stick to my face so I can use it as a headset when I leave my car?

the issue is more and more states do not consider speakerphone truely hands free

I would imagine if you could play your phone's music through it, they would include that as a feature. Motorola T505 is still the benchmark.

I also have the Anycom that I got here on Woot a few years ago (or, had. It was good for 2+ yrs, tho). Loved it; never had to plug it in to charge, was almost always at full charge. Good sound quality. Honestly, I loved having it for the cache as well as the toy value; "how green am I?! MY bluetooth speaker is SOLAR!"
BTW: live in Wisconsin, car always outside.

With my deceased Anycom, I attached it to the moonroof... so it was right above my head. I could close the moonroof "cover" when parked, so you couldn't see it, and no one would be tempted to break in to steal it (like that would happen). Two problems, however: (1) Since moonroof was tinted, it didn't charge real well there, and (2) One must remember to remove it, holder and all, if one wants to actually open said moonroof!

Moral of story: I kept it on the windshield.

Tell me you are joking.

You are presumably (and hopefully) wearing a helmet in which case you wouldn't be able to hear and you wouldn't be heard. That is what in-helmet speaker/mics are for.

But all that is beside the point because *of course* riding a motorcycle is too loud for a speaker phone to work.

LMAO

He just has to remember to turn it up REALLY LOUD so he can hear it over those Harley Glass-Packs. And besides, why would he be wearing a helmet???? It would just make it harder to hear the speaker... ;-p

My experience exactly. Probably got it at the same time you did.

I've always wanted to see someone use this while driving some huge gas guzzler and point out that they are going green!

I bought almost the exact same looking product (but had a different manufacturer label on it) about a year ago. I had 2 complaints that may or may not be applicable on this one.
1) The solar panel wasnt enough to keep the device charged with moderate use. This meant plugging it in which defeats the purpose of the solar panel. This was in SoCal with 100% outdoor parking.
2) In the summer, the clear plastic holder with the suction cups melted due to the heat and the weight of the unit. We had a couple of 100 degree days but it made the holder worthless and so we simply threw the units away. Again, this was about two years ago but the design looks identicle.

If they have improved those issues and you dont have bluetooth in your vehicle, this would be an ideal solution.

Okay, I'm confused. The YouTube testimonial guy says he tried two of these with multiple cell phones. What's the real deal? It's not much money, but if it ain't worth it then I prefer putting the doe toward my cell phone bill.

Is it or isn't it a good device?

RedDawg wrote:It probably IS the same connector (Micro "B") but don't count on your Droid charger being able to power/charge this device or vice versa. Motorola, maddeningly, seems to be using a non-standard USB conductor/pin-out order for the DC leads to its Droid phones. I bought a hard-to-find USB cable with a Micro B connector on one end and a Mini B connector on the other so that I could use my Ryobi TEK4 RP4900 Portable Power Source to keep my Droid charge topped off when I am out and about, but it doesn't work because there is a conductor order incompatibility. BOOOOOO on Motorola.

You might want to try a different adapter, Motorola conforms to the usb standards for voltage @ pinouts. Try another adapter, mine works fine.

CA Vehicle code won't let you mount this *anywhere* on the windshield, by the way. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm limits exceptions to GPS in a seven inch square in the lower left corner. Penalties are greater than talking on the phone!

In California a ticket for talking on the phone (in hand) while driving is $200 plus its a moving violation so you get to go to traffic school. This is a bit cheaper.

No, the ticket for talking on the phone is $20 for the first offense, $50 for the next, and does not put points on your license.

Here's the CA Vehicle Code. See? http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc23123.htm

I think for the price of $15 it's worth a try.

I have a bluetooth ear piece that I bought a few years back, and put through the wash, and it still works.

That being said, even on cloudy days, there are some UV rays that will get to it. I have several solar powered things on my porch that light up even after the rain, so unless you live in Alaska where its dark for most of the winter, the solar power should still take at least a little bit of a charge. (I live in New England if that matters to anyone)

This will be so nice to not look like the jerk with the thing in my ear anymore!

And if it doesn't work well, then I'll have a speakerphone for the house.

I bought 2, the product does have some bad reviews regarding the volume... but IOGEAR seems to have great customer support, so I'm betting on that and I needed a micro usb charger for my Motorola phone ;)

Yeah, the turning off when you get out of the car would definitely improve the retention power of the battery.......

Anyone know if this unit will turn itself off when your phone leaves the units range?
Probably not as big of a deal as this one is solar.... still....

I've had two similar units in the past.

The one that stayed on all the time was garbage. If I forgot to turn it off, it would be dead after work.

My 2nd unit would turn off after five min of loosing connection. The battery is now dead on my 2nd unit (Three years old), and Motorola no-longer makes that model.
