I'm amazed at the b'tching and complaining going on. Really? Sure, I didn't get a Big o' Cosmos but at least there was a shot. Maybe its not fair for the West Coast people who are used to sitting around at 10pm their time and are able to grab the BOCs before anyone else has a reasonable shot at it (like us East Coasters at 1am).

I'm sure some people had problems but other people at least had all morning to reasonably attempt to get one. No you-have-2-seconds-to-click-the-link and No pay-$8-for-a-10%-shot-at-it but a game thats possible to win.

Is it possible to win everytime? No, that's part of the game. You might have to play 100x to win.

Give me a break...

Everyone who is complaining needs to get a grip on themselves. No one said you had to come here and try to get one of the awesome Big o' Cosmos. I thought it was a great April Fools trick

So, not really a Woot Off - just a crapola sale? So sad.

You only needed one hand to play the game, and even if you wanted to go for points you only need your fingers. I've had both arms in full length casts before (at different times) and there is nothing about it that would stop me from pressing a space bar.

I got multiple. My first two, it never brought me to the game, just went through like nothing was wrong and a normal midnight Big o' Cosmos. Then, i got my one for playing the game later. Happened to my roommate as well, as he took home 2 sets.

I'm happy to see they've finally migrated to Amazon's servers. I don't know when they did the switch but today was the first time I noticed the new IP number.

You realize that flas h is run locally on your own machine, right? How was this -increasing- traffic to the servers?

I don't care if you pull some Jatravartid **** like this again, because I won't even be checking the site to see what you have to offer. I wish you the worst of luck with business.

How about you take some responsibility for the situation as well! Did somebody force you to waste time playing a game that was "impossible to complete"? Do you know what the definition of insanity is? If the game was impossible, then why did you try persistently? Jokes on you!

Something tells me these people paranoid androiding either weren't around or don't remember that you USED to have to click "I want THREE," effectively making today's offer around 22,500 craps and one helluva easier way to score...

Thanks Woot!

Happy April Fool's Day, Woot & Wooters! The game worked -most of the time, anyway- in Chrome, and was definitely, as far as I'm concerned, a good way to wish us all happy AFD. Congrats to those who got their Big o' Cosmos, condolences to those who didn't, and 'go away, just go away' to those who are here only to gripe and complain.

Thanks, Woot, for trying something different!

You guys ever hear of whitewhine.com? I think this thread would fit in perfectly.

Seriously, do you guys realize that today is, y'know, April Fools? Why on earth would Woot offer a "fair" deal on April Fools of all days?

Considering the game was actually called Crapshoot, I'm not understanding the over-the-top feelings of betrayal.

I do believe you mean "a snail mounted rocket" sir. Lets not mix up who does the mounting... That could lead to some inconvinient complications.

I like the originality of this game, and trying new things, but last year's April 1 Big o' Cosmos was far and away the best. A normal item was up for sale, and in the description, was a clue, leading you to another item. You could buy each item, of course, or keep following the clues to eventually lead to the Big o' Cosmos. Took a looooong time to figure out the right path, and unfortunately, I did not snag one. But it was enjoyable and adventuresome all the way. Let's do it again.

Stop the whining!....You should have used the links that were provided by other wooters to get your Big o' Cosmos. Next time read some of the comments and you wouldn't have had to waste your time playing that Jatravartid game....BTW, got my Big o' Cosmos on level 9 using the link, only took 4 tries, less than 1 minute.........

That was ****ing Jatravartid. I beat the appropiate level and it never let me have a link to load the buy one page, then I loaded manually and It said I hadn't beat the level.

Then all the 503 errors.

Who ever came up with this should be fired. He/She is a I-d-i-o-t.

To all the people that say stop complaining. there are limits even on april fools day. I consider myself a good sport considering I played the game until I should have won the ability to buy a Big Orphaned Cetacea(I actually did this multiple times for about 2 hours)

Ok, while I think it was all in fun... I do think it beyond sucks that some people scored multiples. Especially to those of us that got the script error instead of "get your crap" button. *shrug*

I will still try next time, I will still buy my usual fair from woot and shirt and wine... But I am bummed that the system allowed some to get multiples... (Is my jealousy showing?)

on 4/1/2011, you successfully wooted.
You want 1

Random Crap - Level 3
You ordered 3 Random Crap.
which each cost $3.00
for a subtotal of $3.00
plus shipping + $5.00
for a total of $8.00

Persistent. Lost some sleep, but I finally won. All those years and hours playing video games prepared me for this. Wait, what?

Played through to level 6 when the status was at level 3. Never had a chance to actually buy my Big o' Cosmos. Very frustrating. Also, had to play game several times as way too often there were double hazards that could not be avoided.

As a long time wooter (4.5 years) I can tell you this way sucked.

I have over 50 woots between all 3 sites, and have never managed to get a Big o' Cosmos, I spent 3 hours last night. I won the required level 5 different times, but it didnt register.

I also died from a double impassible obstacle 28 times.

I would have enjoyed this idea if it had functioned properly. While it was at level 3 I made it to level 4 -- no Big Orphaned Cetacea, just an error message.

So for everybody jumping to woot's defense -- even if the site worked for you, it wasn't working properly. It was a bad move.

Good idea though, in theory.

This game really made me realize woot doesn't deserve any more of my money. Seriously, it will have to be a really good deal to make me buy in the future. This prank crossed the line from funny to really irritating. The later levels were nearly unwinnable without using some hacks people found out. I passed level 3 early on when that should have won, only to find an error where the "order" button should have popped up. Not to mention the long period of time when the game was just unloadable. For this woot, you have lost the quirky but likable, and still deserving of support status you had, and now are a shady site that just likes to mess with us in mean ways.

I will now have post traumatic stress symptoms whenever I drive down 2 lane roads, fearing that I will run into a double-blocked impossible situation.

I didn't want a Big Orphaned Cetacea this time. When Woot first started, you were likely to wind up with something amazing like a pallet of lcd screens or golf clubs or $609 in cash even though they won't admit it and having that chance was exciting and thrilling, but with this, it's safe to assume that Woot bought a bunch of garbage specifically for super Big Orphaned Cetacea day since there was 7,500 bags * 10 levels. I think that means no one will get anything good which destroys the fun factor.

Misanthrope

quality posts: 1 Private Messages Misanthrope

Doing a skim, I see that there are a few of us who got past level 3 while the game was at level 3 yet still didn't get our Bags O' Crap. Then I see one of them saying that Woot staff said it must have moved on to level 4. I can tell you I tried a couple of more times after getting screwed the first time and it always said it was in level 3. Then, magically, it said the servers were down for maintenance.

I'm not making any empty threats, I still love Woot, but I think you maybe should do something nice for those of us who got screwed over by your game. I'm guessing since there was a maintenance outage, you know something happened.

Now I'll quit paranoid androiding.

Oh, wait. I'd like to again make the case for limiting the Big o' Cosmos to people on a one out of (x) number basis. Like they do with radio contests. Once you win, you can't win again for x number of days, or in the case of the Big o' Cosmos, once you get one, you can't get another for x number of BsOC.

NOW, I'm done.

Something important is being overlooked, y'all... the stats say 9 minutes 23 seconds to the "first sucker" in this Big o' Cosmos event... now that is significant!! What used to be totally over in milliseconds, we have nearly a 9 1/3 minute passing before the first Big o' Cosmos got claimed. Mucho applause seriously deserved there. :D

(Well done Woot! Very clever - and well done)

I agree, the concept was excellent (thumbs up for Woot!) but the execution... well.. it left a bit to be desired. Oh, wait, this is woot not a gaming site... so thinking on that level, I take that back. The execution lived up to all woot-worthiness, game flaws, errors and all.

I tried. Several times. Didn't work.

And you know what? Life goes on. Did the inability of buying a Big o' Cosmos make you a lesser person? It doesn't.
