Picked one up after hearing about the great positives of this tablet from the last go around. Viewing angle may still be an issue, but this will primarily be used by 1 person at a time in our house. So many options for updating the ROM to something more useful if need be too.

For those people calling it an iPad wanna be, come on, not everything out there is trying to compete with Apple. Heck, Apple didn't even come out with the first tablet either. So much misguided information...

No, Android, though based off linux, is it's own operating system and Programs from OSX, Windows and Linux will not run on them, only APPs will.

That said, you may be able to install windows xp tablet edition on this if you're crazy.

Aw, man, I WAAAAAAAANT one! However, not in the budget today. I need to wait until at least after today, when I find out whether we'll be paying for physical therapy for our 3-year-old for who knows how long.

I need cheap Wootables today! Also, I need for nothing really good to come on until after 3pm Eastern!

Unfortunately no, however with the custom roms you can use the wifi locator services, which work pretty well in populated areas.

Rooted Nook Color or this?

I wanted to get one of these when they debut them at the roebuck store. Unfortunately, they only had a piece of cardboard with a picture as their display. When I asked the guy for one to play around with he told me I could look up the specs online. Sorry but I just cant purchase something like that without seeing how it works up close. Personally, for only 80 bucks more, I would pick up a refirbished Ipad. They are hard to find but if you look everyday, eventually they have them in stock. Sometimes they even have them here, but you would have better luck at the source. I picked up one last week.

Mine came defaulted to classic Android and it wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews indicated.

I tried it for an hour or two before putting the Vega-N ROM (froyo) on it, which was very easy.

I now have Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Google Marketplace and the Amazon Appstore installed.

Damn you, Woot. It was only with the utmost strength, willpower, and the fact that my Visa is inside a block of ice in the freezer that kept me from buying one of these last time. I thought I had evaded that particular snare. Now here it is again, it's BACK, and of course I can't even quickly shut down the Wootsite and pretend I didn't see anything - I have to obsessively check on it every 5 minutes on the impossible chance that the Box of Crayons will make an appearance at 9am on the first day of a woot-off.

I hate you.

If you look at XDA work has already begun and there is an experimental Gingerbread ROM with Honeycomb elements.

So after doing a little research I found the SW sucks (what a surprise) but the HW is solid. This is very easy to root and flash new SW. It looks a lot like Samsung Tab 10.1 Tablet. Only differences are:

Heavier by .2 lbs
Cameras: (no rear, front is 1.3 MP vs 2.0 MP Samsung Tab 10.1)
Thicker
Less battery (3600 mAh vs 6800 mAh)
Less cost: (280 vs 500)
Root: (Yes vs ???)
Android: (Froyo vs Honeycomb)

All in all not bad. Samsung's Tab is out June 8th, so you get this sooner.

Leaves a little extra money for my beer budget.

I found my new development play thing.

Now a wireless N router or bluetooth keyboard would be nice.

Woot changing flash into flesh. Just don't say flash light.

BUYER BEWARE, WOOTSTERS!! A week or so ago, on a 2-for-Tuesday, the toothbrush sanitizers. I thought I'd purchase two of the sets, so I'd get 4 total sanitizers. My order came yesterday, and only 2 sanitizers. I checked my order, I did order and pay for two. I emailed woot and here is their answer: the TOOTHBRUSH that comes inside the sanitizer, inside the plastic packaging, is what counts as the TWO!! Silly me, I would think that 2-for-Tuesday implies two of the same item!! In future Tuesdays, be careful!! If you order something that is battery charged and it includes the battery, you might be getting "2" without knowing it.
I think I'm done with purchasing from Woot. I suggest you guys try out Yugster instead.

Got one of these GTablets when it was up on Woot 3/23. Rooted it and installed TnTLite 4.4.0...runs like a dream. Tons of other ROMs you can install, just visit XDA Developers.

If you're thinking of a Moto Xoom but are on a budget and don't really care to be using this on the road (e.g., broadband), the GTablet is the way to go. But you can also tether this tablet to your current Android 2.2 phone to get broadband as well (so I've been told)

In for another...early bday gift for a buddy.

Got one last time it was up.

The viewing angle sucks and the pre-loaded OS (TapNTap) is garbage.

After installing a custom ROM (Cyanogen is tops) it's definitely worth the money.

I saw this in office depot for $379 back in november and had been contemplating buying it. I love android saw the specs and thought this had to be an awesome device...I saw it on woot a few weeks ago, and broke down and bought it. The device is actually really good out of the box it ran alot better than some of the reviews i read. As soon as i hooked it up i got an ota update. The only issues i found is the viewing angle is minimal and they don't have the android market. I ended up modding it with tnt lite 4.4 and its perfect..running toe to toe with the ipad for half the price! Excellent buy if your still on the fence.

That is a popular question that I haven't found the answer to either.

I was not (and am not) a fan of the current crop of tablets. They are simply larger smartphones and that's boring as sh*t. I want them to either fill a middle spot between "full" computer and smartphone but, failing that, simply replace my desktop/laptop and allow me to do everything I could do there on my tablet.

Having said that, I have owned one of these tabs for about a week. It's okay; it's not as useless as I was thinking it would be.

I used it to take notes in a meeting yesterday, but it was frustrating as anything conductive in proximity with the touchscreen destroyed my ability to write with the stylus. This included my apparently-electrically-transparent FirstAscent fleece pullover thing. Again, since this is capacitive, even close proximity will register as a touch. I eventually got used to hovering my arm, but that made writing somewhat awkward.

I've flashed Vegan-tab which has crashed and rebooted randomly and mostly rarely. The Market works but does not contain every app that my phone does. I've applied every fix and darn close to every market install to fix this and it simply doesn't show everything. I just use Titanium Backup to transfer any apps that don't show up (Glow Hockey, seriously?).

Blah blah, it's okay. I don't regret it, mostly because my 3 year old and I were playing PBS Kids games on the couch the other day.

The Asus EE Transformer thing is coming out shortly at $399 with identical internals, except more RAM, and an IPS screen at higher resolution. If you are serious about Android tablet ownership that may be your banana.

I bought the gTablet when it was wooted a week or two ago. Just last night I rooted to a better version of the OS as instructed at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004. Both myself and a co-worker updated easily the instructions on that page listed under part a of "Installation for legacy 1.0.1 or 1.1 stock/mod users". (NOTE: we skipped the prerequisites but I'm not recommending that!)

I bought mine so that I can take it on motorcycle trips and save space over taking a laptop.

But, after getting it and playing with the default install, I found it was not nearly as bad as the reviewers made it out to be.

I still updated the ROM to Vega-N, but I think Viewsonic changed the ROM they ship it with since many of the reviews were written.

I missed this deal and went ahead and got a Xoom wifi. As I understand, the main differences are lower res screen and less RAM and possibly less 3D video performance. Other hardware specs are similar. Of course, no Honeycomb on g-Tab, not even as custom ROM, but that'll change sooner or later.

I like my Xoom. Didn't like it very much when I got it but over last week, I've grown to like it quite a bit. I haven't rooted it yet, and probably won't until I decide to keep it for sure. This is less than half the price I paid for Xoom ($589 plus tax at Costco) so it's actually a great deal. Sure, screen at 600 vertical pixels is not as nice as iPad (768 I think? and 800 for Xoom) but I don't think less RAM is going to affect the performance much since tablet computing is still one app at a time, more due to screen real estate than other hardware capability, so I don't think that'll matter for most apps. I'm considering it even now, as a present for my daughter. She's turning 4 but she glomps on to her mom's iPad at every chance she gets and spends hours playing "educational" games.
