I picked one up when it went on last week (or was it the week before?). Anyway, I have just been using the base ROM, and after it updated, it seems fast enough.

Are the custom ROMs that much better/faster than the stock? It's not that I'm worried about doing it wrong, it's just that I haven't found the justification to root the device yet.

hummm, I couldn't stop myself from buying one... I saw my hands moving to the mouse and clicking I want one while thinking what do I need another computer for?

does anyone know if you can use a USB harddrive with this? I guess I should have asked before I bought it, but my zombie like reflexes wouldn't let me.

Which ROM did you go with. I also purchased the last time; played with the stock version and confirmed what everyone else said so now I have been searching xda-developers to try an determine the easiest path to the most reliable ROM.

Yeah... I was so sad about that, I'm physically disabled and don't have the manual dexterity in my claw-hands to win at that game. I tried for hours. I feel that Woot is insensitive to the disabled and may even have violated the ADA. In fact I'll probably be consulting a lawyer. Unless of course somebody at Woot reads this and decides to just send me a Box of Crayons to head off a potentially expensive and embarassing lawsuit. (now watch, I would not be at all surprised to get a woot box next week with a literal pack of Crayolas in it, knowing woot!)

In any case, note the fact that I'm sitting here refreshing at 9am on the first day of a Woot-Off. You have to make allowance for those of us wretched enough to ignore the laws of time and space in our desperate hope.

Upon reading about that Flying Touch item, the battery life absolutely sucks. The description is kind of riddled with typos, too...

I doubt there's much of a problem using Bluetooth for the GPS info from the phone, or having a small USB dongle. Not for the price, anyhow.

I emailed woot and here is their answer: the TOOTHBRUSH that comes inside the sanitizer, inside the plastic packaging, is what counts as the TWO!! Silly me, I would think that 2-for-Tuesday implies two of the same item!! In future Tuesdays, be careful!! If you order something that is battery charged and it includes the battery, you might be getting "2" without knowing it.
I think I'm done with purchasing from Woot. I suggest you guys try out Yugster instead.

If this is for real and not just an ad for yugs*er, then point service at woot dot com to the product description. It clearly states that you will get two toothbrushes and two sanitizers.

Quote from that:
In the box:
* (2) American Direct ZG-12 Zero Germ UV Toothbrush Sanitizers
* (2) Toothbrushes (Colors Are Selected Randomly)

Woot! Now 100+ woots for me!

Normally, the answer is no.

These are going to be USB clients not hosts. But with up to 32 GB of SD space, that helps. And if you're really worried about space use a network drive and the wireless N (and nfs/samba) to store things.

I flashed mine with tnt-lite 4.4.0 and noticed a slight increase in performance nothing to fret about, but the best thing is that you get access to the android market which has tons of apps to play with.

Mine has been great. I rooted it, but kept the stock software and will do so until the next big Viewsonic update. After that, who knows.

I read Kindle books (loaded the Kobo reader.)

I also store a couple thousand HTML files on the microSD card to use when Geocaching offline. No WiFi in the woods.

Not all apps work on it. Not all apps work on all tablets. The accelerometer on tablets has a different axis than phones, so if the programmer was lazy and ignored the rotation call, games that use the accelerometer will act wierd.

I cannot get the Anroid Market to recognize this is an Android device. Even with a brand-new Google account. So I get my apps from Amazon or Handango or a few other places.

This is a great tablet. (I hate to admit it, but Angry Birds on a tablet kicks butt! way too addictive.)

I use the tablet a bit more than I use my laptop when doing recreational stuff. Still use the laptop for serious work.

Trying to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am...........

juicius wrote:I missed this deal and went ahead and got a Xoom wifi. As I understand, the main differences are lower res screen and less RAM and possibly less 3D video performance. Other hardware specs are similar. Of course, no Honeycomb on g-Tab, not even as custom ROM, but that'll change sooner or later.

I like my Xoom. Didn't like it very much when I got it but over last week, I've grown to like it quite a bit. I haven't rooted it yet, and probably won't until I decide to keep it for sure. This is less than half the price I paid for Xoom ($589 plus tax at Costco) so it's actually a great deal. Sure, screen at 600 vertical pixels is not as nice as iPad (768 I think? and 800 for Xoom) but I don't think less RAM is going to affect the performance much since tablet computing is still one app at a time, more due to screen real estate than other hardware capability, so I don't think that'll matter for most apps. I'm considering it even now, as a present for my daughter. She's turning 4 but she glomps on to her mom's iPad at every chance she gets and spends hours playing "educational" games.

How does woot look on the xoom?

I got one of these last week. For the money, it's a great deal. It was kind of a pain in the @$$ to hack it and get the software on it to allow you to watch the REAL youtube, setup gmail, install the android marketplace, and get Flesh installed. Once I took the 2 hours to do all that, it does just about everything I could want it to do (well, except watch Netflix instant queue bc Microsoft Silverlight isn't compatible with android yet). Some annoying things about it are the keys on the side you accidentally can hit occasionally that will take u back, to the homepage, or voice command. Also, the touch sensitivity is lacking compared to the iPad - but Flesh and open source is a plus. Overall, 3.5/5 stars.

I am a confirmed Mac-person & haven't used anything else in years. Bought one of these little tabs the last time they were offered at this price and glad I did - it's got its quirks but so do I so we get along very well. Add a case, get a protective screen/skin & you'll be good to go. If it is all new to you as it was to me there are some terrific online forums (at least two for sure) that will help get you going & keep you entranced. And you can't beat this price.

I'm in for one, if only to get on with my day and not sit here with bugs crawling up my arms wondering if I should get it or not. The positive reviews and high recommendation from a family member, plus a nice check from Mom for my birthday, sealed the deal.

Now if Sansas start popping up, and the bugs start crawling up my arms, I'm in big trouble.

I should note that while I'm enjoying my gTablet and it does most everything I've wanted from it so far, I would not expect an iPad-level experience quite yet. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of tablet support in the Android community yet, I assume because there aren't many tablets. I figure once Google opens up Honeycomb and a wave or two of Honeycomb-standard tablets come out that might change. Until then, you're mostly going to get phone apps scaling to the larger screen. (And not all of them manage that successfully.)

Got one of these in the last Woot sale for this device. Mine came defective and will randomly reboot, lock up, and freeze. Very disappointing.

A little surprised that people are making light of the screen viewing angle. Unless you are holding the device at a perfect angle, it becomes basically unviewable. Especially annoying if you want to lounge around, lay the device on a desk, etc.

Even if I had a perfect unit, I would view this device only as a bridgeway unit for someone wanting to get into tablet tech, but not wanting to wait 18 months for it to fully mature. It is "good enough" for some common tasks right now, but not great enough to keep for the long term.

Send e-mail to service at woot dot com, telling them your order number and providing the corrected state.

It'll get caught in shipping since the ZIP and state won't match so letting them know ahead of time will avoid extra work for them. It's always good to treat your woot staff well.

The problem with apps not showing up in the market is not a problem of fixes, or anything else that you can do.

When an app developer publishes an app to the marketplace one of the things they write up is a file called AndroidManifest.xml, and in that file they specify which screens, hardware requirements, etc. their app supports.

Most likely, any app that doesn't show up has the manifest written to require some capability that the gtablet doesn't support.

However, if you can transfer the app and it runs fine, it is most likely that the app's manifest is incorrectly written.
