Yes... unless the developer added additional controls to their apps outside Google's Marketplace.

In for mine. Super excited. I already own a 2.2 Galaxy S Phone (Vibrant) and its rooted and I love it. The Tegra should mop up though and I've been looking for a laptop replacement. USB makes this thing so sexy.

Yeah, this is awesome. I bought a Xoom last week and signed in with the same gmail address I use for my Droid and all my apps were there, even the apps that require root. This is great for those paid apps. I bought Seekdroid and that one purchase will cover both my phone and Xoom, and the gTab I just bought.

Can anyone tell me where to get the Android Market app?
The old one I found and tried would not boot up and didn't show the google framework to stop and clear-out (part of the fix).

I need a good version.

great! this'll replace one of the old netbooks in my medical office that I got from woot a couple of years ago!

has anyone been able to pair one of these with an apple bluetooth keyboard? if so, email to [f l a s h] at docflash dot com would be *most* appreciated...

and now, back to your wootoff, which is ALREADY in progress . . .

p.s. yo, woot: the "f l a s h" to "f l e s h" auto-change is very very funny.

now stop it. %^|

I just got one! Thanks Woot, to the people who know more about this than me. I am reluctant to "jailbreak" this device, is this crazy? or are these 3party programs pretty safe? It would not be good to somehow screw it up while voiding the warranty.

I got one in the last woot. Hardware wise, the device is great. Only the screen holds it back from being an ipad beater. The problem is the software, which is pretty crappy out of the box. Slow and cumbersome.

So to get the full potential, you need to root it. This is not "hard" per se, but it does have a bunch of somewhat involved steps. It doesn't take long to do but it's possible to make a mistake and have a problem and then you've voided your warranty and have to figure it out or ask for help on XDA developers.

Here's my experience. Got my gTab, installed TNT Lite 4.3, it worked ok. I got the market working, installed Amazon app store downloaded a bunch of stuff. Then after a day or so a bunch of my apps had problems and wouldn't run. And the apps I had installed from Amazon disappeared. Woah! So I upgraded to 4.4 which had just been released. That didn't improve things. So I decided to switch to VEGAn Tab. The guide says that should be ok and I did, deleted all my apps to make the way clear for the new ROM and then the device stopped working. I had "softbricked" it. Wouldn't turn on.

That was alarming. Luckily, XDA developers has a thread on how to recover to the factory software. I was able to do that, completely wiping the device in the process. I then installed VEGAn Tab, following the instructions a bit more carefully this time (the first time I did it based on a youtube, the second, I followed the written instructions). It all worked very well. I've been able to use the device for several days and it's very stable and actually, lots and lots of fun. But, I'd say if you are not a bit brave and tech savvy (I'm a software engineer), you might not want to go down the Rooting path.

you didn't buy this for the warranty, you bought it to use it, right? Upgrade the ROM - it's safe and easy. Think of this as a purchase of a great computer with Windows CE or Vista installed and now you have the opportunity to upgrade to XP or 7.

Woody1150 wrote:What I need to know is if someone bricked theirs and was able to recover it?

If you soft-brick it, you could recover from the SD card.

When it boots, it looks first to the SD card and can re-Flesh the ROM from there. So even if you bricked it to the point that it wasn't bootable of internal memory you could still recover from the SD.

If you are rooted, look through almost any of the ROM threads on XDA. It depends on what version of Android you are running. I have had issues trying to run Gingerbread GAPPS on Froyo.

Unless of course somebody at Woot reads this and decides to just send me a Box of Crayons to head off a potentially expensive and embarassing lawsuit. I'm also sad about Friday. I've only taken one day off of work/"the grid" so far this year, and it was Friday. So many years, and still no Big o' Cosmos.

I bought one of these during the legendary Woot! sale a couple weeks ago. I couldn't be happier with it. The support by the people over at XDA developers is great and, once rooted, the tablet performs exceptionally well.

Some notes to consider. . .
*The screen is the only downfall. Looking at it straight on is fine but anything other than a slight angle causes it to distort the colors/brightness.

*It works great as an e-reader. 16GB of internal storage and an SD card slot allows for a lot of room. Kindle and nook both have free apps for it. There are also 3rd party e-reader apps that let you read ebook files (opposed to reading ebooks stored online).

*Google just recently said that they're not making Android 3.0, Honeycomb, open source for a while. However, there are enough ROMs to put on once you root it that you'll find something you like.

TL;DNR:
This is a great tablet for the price once its rooted. The hardware is quick and responsive, but the screen isn't the best.

I bought one for my wife at the last sale. I think it's been in use non stop by either her or me or a family member since we got it.

It's definitely everything I want/need from a portable device. I'll be tethering my phone to it for unlimited internet access as well.

This is very funny because if you go to the very first link from the first poster about the first EPIC SALE of this item. You will find my comment is the 5th quality post down...

Well since that comment I had actually sent my elocity a7 back because it wound up having a dead pixel in the screen. Usually not a big deal to me, but on a device with a screen already so small I think it should be working 100%.

I read countless reviews on this device and almost all of the negative feedback was because of the "marketplace" and/or "preloaded software/apps" suck with this device...so... I'll say it one more time for you all you people.

#1 This is the cheapest Nvidia Integra 2 dual core tablet you can find (normally $300 or more anywhere else).

#2 The rom can be flashed (firmware, software, whatever it means to you) to provide you with the google android marketplace and all it's apps. I did the same thing with my elocity when I played around with it (Better software).

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=841

The first thing you should do when you buy this is update the firmware from the manufacturers site.

The second, play with it and investigate whether or not you want to play with the xda flashing.

I waited and watched like a hawk for woot to put this tablet back up so I could buy it. Thank you, thank you, thank you w00t!

Btw woot originated from D&D meaning "wow loot".

HeyApples wrote:Got one of these in the last Woot sale for this device. Mine came defective and will randomly reboot, lock up, and freeze. Very disappointing.

A little surprised that people are making light of the screen viewing angle. Unless you are holding the device at a perfect angle, it becomes basically unviewable. Especially annoying if you want to lounge around, lay the device on a desk, etc.

Even if I had a perfect unit, I would view this device only as a bridgeway unit for someone wanting to get into tablet tech, but not wanting to wait 18 months for it to fully mature. It is "good enough" for some common tasks right now, but not great enough to keep for the long term.

You can pair it through bluetooth to your gps phone and still use gps with maps on it. I know android and windows mobile can work this way, but I am unsure if iphone has an app for that. It takes a little setup, but it works great.

Awesome write-up. Though a fan of Apple products, I also get frustrated by the brand and it's hipster aura. I also tire of the "Apple is better! No, PC is better! No, Linux is life!" feud. So, needless to say, this write-up made my morning.

My boss bought 3 of these last time they were up. Notice: They DO NOT work with bluetooth keyboard, something we really wish we would have known.

Also, the button placement on the bezel is fairly awkward. The button to get back to the home screen is located in a place where you would naturally put your hand, causing you to accidentally close a program.

It's clear little to no thought was put into how to organize buttons and plugin locations around the perimeter of the item.
