Can you tell a lazy man where you acquired the case/keyboard?

You can with a different ROM. I love the Vegan experimental build. It has an excellent interface and lock screen capabilities. I need that because I have a teenager at home that will surf tea on anything with an internet connection not locked tight. I want to keep my tablet a virgin.

Woot keeps tempting me with this tablet, but I was strong again. From what I've read, most of the current Android devices will never get Netflix streaming, something to do with Android's open system requiring hardware DRM for Netflix to be able to satisfy the content providers security requirements. Still find this tablet very tempting. There is going to be a flood of tablets this summer, so look for the bottom to fall out of prices.

While that is true if you use playon it can play netflix on your android device as I get them to play on my Droid X via playon. It works great surprisingly enough.

Picked this up on a previous woot and love it. Grabbed a second one today for the old lady. XDA Root and ROM is simple and really makes this device shine.
I don't mind the vewing angle at all, makes gawkers struggle to see what I'm up to.

Yep, PlayOn works a treat and supports several other streaming services as well. The only issues are that it costs a fair amount (I'm not sure how much exactly these days, I bought into it when it was in beta, long before the mobile apps,) and that it works via a server app on a PC, so you need a decent home computer and internet connection. Then again, I assume people aren't starting their computer collection with an Android tablet.

(funny - I actually typed Flesh but they converted it to Flesh!) that was an A you guys, quit that!

rmcangus wrote:what exactly is "rooting"? is that similar to jailbreaking an iphone?

Rooting was a term that meant gaining access to the directory called "root." This means granting the user "Super User" (SU) authority on the device. You need SU authority do do things like replacing the operating system (loading a new "rom"). This is probably the main reasons that folks "root" their G-Tablets.

Here is a URL that explains everything you wanted to know about rooting:

http://www.androidauthority.com/rooting-for-dummies-a-beginners-guide-to-root-your-android-phone-or-tablet-10915/

Hope this helps.

Doesn't PlayOn only work if your inside your house or connected to the same router as the computer with PlayOn installed?

These are going to be USB clients not hosts. But with up to 32 GB of SD space, that helps. And if you're really worried about space use a network drive and the wireless N (and nfs/samba) to store things.

One port is a client, the other is a host.

This should do you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861044

Also, if you have an android phone, you can backup your app's using a file browser like Astro, and it'll put them back into APK's. If you have something like say, drop box, you can put the files there, get them using drop box on your tablet, install, and you're rockin' and rollin'!

cyberpenguin wrote:If you soft-brick it, you could recover from the SD card.

When it boots, it looks first to the SD card and can re-Flesh the ROM from there. So even if you bricked it to the point that it wasn't bootable of internal memory you could still recover from the SD.

its also pretty easy to use nvflash to get back to the stock built ROM. there are a couple tricks, all described on XDA, that you can do to "unbrick" your tablet if you get to that point.

i rooted mine, when i got it from Woot and i was stuck in an endless bootloop and thought i just created myself a paper weight. but you arm yourself with the information on XDA and you'll get through anything you may have done wrong in rooting this tablet.

When you first set up the mobile PlayOn app you must be connected to the same router as the computer with PlayOn. That's how it verifies that you have a paid up PlayOn membership or subscription or whatever. After that, as long as you've got enough upstream bandwidth on your home internet connection, and enough downstream bandwidth on whatever connection your tablet or phone is using, you can be anywhere. I've watched a full episode of Party Down through Netflix via 3G on my Samsung Epic. The gTablet doesn't have cellular internet, so your remote viewing options will be more limited, but it should be possible.

I've really had it up to here with woot!

I wanted to buy one of these, and Woot! refuses to sell me one. I'm ready to hand over the price for one, but will they sell it? No!

I feel like every damn time I want to buy something from this site, it's a headache, and gets me nothing but aggravation. This is not the first time I've run into issues where I've wanted to buy something that they clearly have stock of, but refuse to sell.

I think I'm done with this site. I'll go to a store that actually runs with a business model that makes sense, offer items for sell that people want, let them buy them when they want them, and no games by tricking people into thinking they're special when they get to buy whats out back in the dumpster.

I bought a g-tab from woot, but have decided to sell it because I found another computer I would rather buy. The g-tab has never been opened and is brand new. I also bought a Skinomi TechSkin - Black Carbon Fiber FILM Shield & Screen Protector for Viewsonic G Tablet + LIFETIME REPLACEMENTS that also has never been opened. You can read about it on their web site Shinomi.com I will sell both for $309. If you are interested you can e-mail me at: stans39@yahoo.com

I bought mine in the first batch too. I love it. I have Vegan Tab on mine and love it. Flesh videos play excellent. All I need is a good video player. Real Player is very good, but it does not play the divx with mp3. If anyone knows of a good player, let me know. Make sure you new guys head over to

and put a good system on yours.

Thanks much roebeet. You are the greatest.

(im)patiently waiting for mine. In the meantime I'm slogging through reams of info on the different ROMs.

One thing I can't seem to easily turn up yet is whether any of them support bluetooth tethering (DUN). Right now I use my cell as a modem for my Macbook when I am out of WiFi range. Do any of the custom gTab ROMs support this?
