Short answer, shipping problem. Long answer, read the last 40 or so pages. ;) But really - if you still haven't received them, contact Woot customer service (and good luck with that). Your package most likely got lost in the mail.

Good luck.

My Nook has been taunting me. For a day and a half the package sat in Tacoma. I LIVE in Tacoma!! I think the package was being transferred from FedEx to USPS.

Today my Nook FINALLY arrived. The Nook is still in the cute Woot box, as I am now having second thoughts on the purchase. I am thinking about going to B&N tomorrow to check out the e-ink Nook. I am not sure if I will like it. Also, some folks that have got theirs here seem to be having operational issues with their Nook. These are already refurbished units, so you would think that any issues would have been resolved. SO... I am worried about unpacking my Nook. So even though I have the Nook in my possession, the wait continues.

I think there were only 2 or 3 that posted here that had trouble. I believe the troubles were resolved, either with another unit from B&N or additional phone tech support. There were about 5,000 units sold.

The unit comes with a 1 year warranty from B&N. You can also extend that an additional 1-2 years depending on what you purchase from Square Trade warranty. I got my 2 year extended warranty for about $14 (that was with a Mother's Day 30% discount when they had a 1-day special).

Have fun playing with the store Nook. I played with one at the store BEFORE my Nook arrived and couldn't wait to receive it. I had to wait almost 2 weeks! You will have yours already waiting for you at home should you decide to keep it! :-)

The touch screen takes a little getting used to, but you don't have to use it that often. At least I don't.

Good luck with your decision!

I have watched this pretty closely and I was one of the ones who got a bad Nook and I only saw about two other people with major issues. That's actually a really good percentage, but if you going to wait open it on a Monday, that way if there is a problem call B&N right away and a new one will take like 3 days to get to ya. My replacement came and I am extremely happy with the working Nook, it's really awesome and the 3G connection works well for me.

My Nook arrived on 5/7, just as FedEx tracking said it would. It works great so far and I am very happy with my purchase.

Think these are the original missing Nooks (that were actually stolen - PURE speculation on my part)?

$20 is insane! Either they are stolen or it is a scam and no one will receive them.

It's from the UK - the seller has no feedback - 2 red flags = scam :D

violinstephanie wrote:There really isn't anything about 3G that I've been able to find.

Go to the 'settings' box. The first line should say 'Airplane mode.' In order to access 3G this should be off. The next line should say 'Wi-Fi.' If you touch that line, the next screen should say it's off. After that, if you're in an AT&T area, on the very top line of the reading area of your Nook there should be the normal cell phone bars. That indicates that you're using 3G. For me it took about 30 seconds for my Nook to connect to the 3G.

If the bars go up in a pie shape instead of side to side, you're using Wi-Fi.

Hope that helps...

Thank you Stephanie for the VERY helpful 3G instructions. I did as you said and within seconds the 4 bars appeared replacing the "pie" slice. It took about 5 minutes for the the bars to become darker, but 3G seemed to be working. Much appreciated !!! JT

Anyone else having trouble with their Nook? Mine already has permanent lines on the screen making the text unreadable.

Mine is fine. I've downloaded 23 books so far. 3G is working. WiFi is working. Downloads from the local library works as well. I've even added the "273" wallpaper from here, which is awesome.

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I'm sure you've turned it off and back a few times. Sometimes a simple thing like this may correct the situation. You should be under warranty and B & N may be able to help. if not, contact Woot service. There's a post on here somewhere with the email address.

No problems with the screen. Mine was great for a week, then it froze, permanently. None of the reboot options worked. Tech support says it's probably the battery so hopefully all will be fine once the new battery gets here.

No, but I now have other issues. My bank card processor seems to have issues with bn.com and will not allow bn access to its servers. Without access to my (valid) card, I can't download items to my Nook, even the freebies, nor can I get the book loaded to my Nook that I have paid for by gift card. I now have a brick. Barnes and Noble has not been helpful one iota in resolving this matter.

I am in the process of filing a complaint with my state Attorney General's Office, and am also considering opening a new account just to get a different card processor. The latter does not quite remedy the problem between BN and 1st Union (the card issuer) -- security was given as the reason for the denial of service, and my bank said that other internet merchants were also affected.

After this, I think I'll see what type of info is required to have on file to download to a Kindle.

I can't believe that some people have just recieved their nooks. wow.

Ordered 2 of them and just this past sunday gave the second one to my Father-in-law (my wife got the other one as soon as it arrived).

My father-in-laws worked for 1 day then the eink screen went to pot. Call to BN tech support and they are sending us another Nook and I get to ship that one back. It is nice to see a company stand by their product like B&N has. My wife's has worked without any issues.

I believe that someone in this 48-page thread was able to get a BN rep to give them a fake credit card number to activate their account (since he didn't want to give BN a real credit card number). This would give you access to the free stuff on BN.com and you can purchase ebooks elsewhere (I buy from google books or other places to get the epub/pdf file instead of the proprietary format that BN uses).

Thanks for the info. I remembered reading about that when this thread first started and thought "gee, that's too bad; glad I have a bank card"", and thought nothing more about it.

From what I can see, nothing has been resolved between BN and 1st Union. I've moved on and opened another account (I haven't left my bank because I really, truly like them) that gave me a debit card to use. I now have my books. And I did follow through with a complaint to my State AG Office about Barnes and Noble's handling of these e-book purchases.

Got mine after a few delays in shipping. Was excited, for 3 days. It stopped working. Page is froze. Contacted Barnes n Noble, they had me take out battery and plug it in. If it was a battery issue it should have worked. No go. Still froze in "your nook is starting up" mode. I am BUMMED. I saved for a long time for one of these, found a deal, and got screwed. BnN wont take it b/c I bought it here.

Really? How did you do that, I called BnN and was told I had nothing. I bought from here, not an authorized dealer. I have a broken Nook that worked for 3 days and no way ro replace/return. I have actually cried over this. Please let me know how I can get some customer service. Thanks!!

Keep calling B&N customer service, you must have gotten a bad representative. Working at a call center I know how that goes. Mine came with no serial number and I had to send it back but the replacement they sent works well and I am completely satisfied. If the rep isn't helping you ask for a supervisor. Quite a few people here have needed replacements and received them. That being said, the new Nook is awesome and as much as I love mine I'll probably spring for the new one later this year . . . You hear me Woot?

After a few weeks my forward button cracked. This is apparently a common issue with the 1st gen nooks. A phone call to B&N support (1-800-THE-BOOK) got them to send me a new one and a paid return label for UPS. Relatively painless, and best of all, free. Just FYI if any others encounter this issue.

That's the exact same problem that I had (didn't work even after taking out battery and plugging it in) and it actually did turn out to be the battery because it's been working fine since I got the new battery (although it was kind of slow for the first week or so).

Even though my rep seemed like a nice guy and spoke like he knew what he was talking about, I had done enough research online and had to push back a little before he said "let me put you on hold and speak with my supervisor" and then subsequently returned to offer me a new battery.

So I agree with the poster who said it sounds like you got a bad rep and you should try again. Good luck!
