I bought three of these last time they were on woot. The tools seem to work... not the best, but not bad for the price. When I got mine in the mail, several plastic parts on the cases for the tools were already broken, so the tools don't stay in the cases right, or the cases don't close completely. The tools themselves seem fine though.

Are the tips magnetized? I would definitely pick them up if they were.

MESSAGE TO BIKERS

I bought all three skill sets last time and I was very pleased with them. In fact I gave away one set to a friend because they fit like a glove under your Japanese Motorcycle seat.

+1 in wondering if the tips are magnetic. It's a real pain to have to do that to them. Would one of you who has this kindly "expand" the description a bit? ;-)

Hah, I happen to live in Memphis! Sherwood Forest right south of the University of Memphis. Yup, my friend has a set like this. It's pretty cheap stuff. Not banging on it, but don't expect to treat this set badly. It'll strip and what not really easily.

Moving to an apartment whose current inhabit's tools consist of one phillips head and one flat head screwdriver and an off-brand leatherman tool. Haven't been able to fix a single thing. One of each should fix that!

In for one on the drive set, using it for one specific odd purpose... tightening the bolts on my diabolo... needed one and here it is popping up on Woot, useful as ever :D

It should be noted IF this is the same set that the T6 Torx bit is not the proper size, at least maybe mine slipped through QC, and neither was the PH00.

I ended up almost stripping a fastener using the T6 and had to find a different "higher quality" set.

What makes you think the screw was even a T6?
When I ripped apart my 360 non-slim HDD, the web instructions said to use a T6. Well, my T6 didn't fit but the T5 fit like a glove.

If you go to Thinkgeek.com they have a kit called "Console Access Pro Tool Kit", which has the tools to open everything you just listed.

You know what these would be good for? The collapse of civilization and surviving the apocalypse. Sure, there are other, more pressing concerns, such as food and water, but I have to assume most of you have that squared away already, right? Right?

Hmm, well if you said "No," then I would get on that really quickly. I don't think the S will HTF, so to speak, next month, as some do, but you really never know. One of the key things for every prepared person will be a set of tools. This set looks handy enough to throw in the car, in a bug-out bag, or in a giant Rubbermaid container you hastily screwed wheels to, and are now carrying around the urban wasteland like a rickshaw.

With these tools, not only can you repair stuff, and make a business in the new barter economy cobbling old junk together for people, but you could construct a gyrocopter like that dude in Mad Max. That will be an valuable asset to the New Community. You could also build bicycles, probably.

So, buy these for the bug-out bag. Also, you'll need a hatchet, some paracord, and a nice knife (fixed blade). There's a bunch of other things, but I'm not gonna do everything for you, I won't be around to hold your hand as the pandemic sweeps across the globe, killing billions, or hyperinflation causes everyone's savings to disappear, and chaos reigns in the streets. No, you're gonna have to fend for yourself, so get started here. And buy some rotor blades now, for the gyrocopter. I suspect they'll be difficult to find after the grid goes down.

I got some and like them - they may not wrench off tight fasteners, but they work rasonably well.

But they were a better deal at $2.99 a set.

Wow - I woot!ed so much my sig can't contain it all!

I bought a few of the Skill precision sets during a previous woot off. They do not have magnetic tips, however if you stick the tips on your set of BuckyBalls or a strong magnet, they become magnetic within a few minutes.

I bought a couple of each of these the last time around - for use primarily on my motorcycles and bicycles. So far, all 4 of the ratchets are stripped out and in the trash. They aren't very durable. The ratcheting screwdrivers seem to be holding up pretty well.

Yeah the bits and other small items are made of very cheap and weak pot metal that easily deforms and bends.

Another thing that sucks is that the $5 dollar charge on shipping for each of them, you could ship all 3 or maybe more of them for that price.

Why is it a pain? It just takes a few seconds to magnetize each tip.

Ya, tips are never magnetized friend, short of buying a tool set at kmart. I believe what you intended to ask was if the drivers were magnetized. Also, no self respecting manufacturer would make precision tools magnetized it would be PR suicide. However as to the magnetized state of the ratcheting screwdriver set I cannot attest to.

Hope that helped, and I do apologize if it came off a bit gruff, been a long, long, long day.

I last purchased the 3 skil tool set from sellout last year, for about $3 less (not including the shipping). They work ok for normal electronics and light duty work, but they won't be replacing my work set that cost maybe 200 times more.

They are not able to remove rusted bolts or stripped out screws and aren't made to remove an engine from a truck, but are quite handy for working on radios, car dashboards and computer parts.

Not going to happen, since they also only charge $5 when shipping TV's, ladders, computers, etc.
