I bought 4 of these when they were a Tuesday 2-fer a couple months ago at 2 /$14.99.
In for 2 more today, bringing my total up to 6.
Yes, I have a problem.

But this is a GREAT flashlight for the money.
I've got one in each car and getting a couple more for general use.
On our last campout I did a comparison with my 3xDCell LED Maglight and my 2xAA Energizer Hard Case, shining all three out into the woods with several other people helping me compare. The Cree beat the Energizer and was comparable to the Maglight... and a 3xD cell maglight cost 6x today's Woot.
Did I say I'm in for 2 more??

It IS water resistant. I bought one of these on a previous Woot day. Mine fell into my hot tub and survived quite nicely.

I bought two of these during the last woot off.

Fairly well constructed (at least they're not plastic!), and have good weight when the 2 D cells are in.

The beam is incredibly bright! It is a focused beam with an 'aura' so it does light up an area, with greater focus in the middle. It is not adjustable.

My only complaint is that according the engrish instructions, it is not waterproof or water resistant, as there are no rubber seals or gaskets. Now, it may still work if wet, but it's not recommended...

zerosee wrote:Thank you. I did not know that Woot was bought by Amazon. It will be something to consider on possible future purchases.

Bear in mind that a company is required to charge sales tax in a state where they MAINTAIN A PHYSICAL PRESENCE.

So, we know that woot is owned by Amazon. Aamazon has a home office in one state, distribution facilities in 7 other states, and data centers (subject to crashes) in 4 other states those 12 states are getting hit with sales tax. 13 when we count the fact that woot offices are in Texas. Now, if Amazon buys or merges with ANOTHER company, and THAT company has a presence in 8 DIFFERENT states, well, you now what happens here...

Sooner or later you'll be paying sales tax on every internet purchase anyway, so you can't let that be a driving factor in making your decision.

showcaller wrote:Women buy shoes. Men by flshlights. This is probably a really good deal but darn I have so many flash lights including one or two very much like these I can't rationalize it though it is tempting and if Woot doesn't sell out tomorrow I may very well be in for one of them, or two...

Dahling... I would never want to be an "enabler" but you are right. There's NO such thing as "too many" black shoes.

That said, can you EVER have too many flashlights? A few years ago, I bought a 12 pack of inexpensive LED flashlights thinking they'd make great gifts. Nephews got 1 each, and the other 9 are all over the house, car, in first aid kids (3-4), hanging in the closet (near my only tornado "safe-ish" area in the home), hanging under the kitchen sink, in the "go" bag and a few in the trunk in case someone else needs a flashlight, I can just give them one of these. I also have a number of "better quality" flashlights.

I strongly suspect you do need this flashlight and just haven't identified the appropriate need/justification yet.

My hesitation is the D-batteries. If that's a non-issue for you, pull the trigger.

sdc100 wrote:Love these single CREE LED lights. Lots of people buy the multiple-LED lights, because they're generally cheaper, thinking that the lights are comparable. They're not. These CREE lights are much better for several reasons:

1) Using the same amount power, single LEDs are generally brighter and more efficient

2) CREE LEDs give out a pure white light. Cheaper white LEDs generally have a bluish tint. That's because white LEDs work like fluorescent lights, where white phosphors are excited by UV light. In cheaper LEDs, you can see the UV, which gives off a bluish tint.

3) Multiple LEDs interfere with each other, both in terms of wave interference and by casting multiple shadows. That results in a "blurry" light. A single LED gives out a well-defined intense beam.

=======

My only qualm about this flashlight is the use of D batteries. While D batteries have a very long lifespan, they're expensive, large and heavy. And rechargeable D batteries are hard to find. All my 10+ LED flashlights use AA or AAA batteries.

Also, this flashlight only has one mode: 120 lumens. There is no Low mode, or Flashing mode.

On the plus side, this can make a good weapon.

You can get adapters for "C" and "D" cells that work well. They are like hollow sleeves that the "AA's" slide into. It solves your weight and size issue. I use them with rechargeable eneloop batteries and love them.

I've got a small stable of LED lights around the house. Small, pocketable and handy for rooting around under my desk or in the back of dark closets, but pretty much useless outside or when you need to light up something more than five feet away.

Bought one of these in the last woot-off and my only regret was that I did not buy the max. These are great outside, I can light up every corner of my property, and even my neighbors'. Super bright with a long reach and good heft, it's a fantastic utility flashlight. Need one for the car and stocking stuffers.

In for 3...

They have a brighter light than my 4 D-cell MagLite, but the MagLite is probably still better for cracking skulls. All in all, can't go wrong at this price.

Wait - up to 120 lumens? But don't those cool tactical flashlights used by cool people with their cool gun/flashlight stances throw 150 lumens at the bad guys?

I have several of the Brinkmann flashlights that look similar to this one and they are great lights. Must hide these from my wife when they arrive or she will use them as drumsticks on my noggin for buying more. Shine on boys and girls, shine on!

I got these a couple weeks ago on a 2for-tuesday.
Love them.
Nice and heavy, great light.
Last weekend stuck in a very heavy Atlantic coast storm. The light cut through the wind driven rain for at least 6 blocks down the street.

Proudly WOOTing since May 2005 Have bought more junk than I care to think about.

If so, that kind of sucks.

Thanks for that.
I've been wondering - how does one discover the moofi deals?
They're not every day, are they?
So where do you look to find out if there is one?

Also - regarding this moofi in particular, where is the discussion forum?
I want to read some quality posts about that item before I pull the trigger and buy one.

I've bought 10 of these from a couple different woots. Highly recommend! I always owned MagLites, these are a great cost effective alternative. The only downside is that the beam isn't adjustable, but it is so bright I haven't had a problem with that.

You can email service@woot.com to increase your order to 3. They'll do everything they can to assist if the product doesn't sell out. There are other ways to order more if you think about it. You know since sales are per account/creditcard.

Would you rather have "Flashlight" stuck in your head or "It's a Small World"? Or "Friday" by Rebecca Black?

It's your choice. I choose P-Funk.

Bought these when it was a two-pack, and I got to say they are great flashlights, and definitely for the price.

Solidly built (batteries are snug and not moving or rattling parts), easily able to light up any room or field you're in. Put one in your rooms, kitchen, cars, emergency bags, pretty much anywhere a flashlight would be helpful.
Remember to keep track of your battery dates for the latter two especially, as if you don't, you may be better off with a crank light like the Eton Emergency Light in those cases.

I use an infrared temp monitor from Woot to tell when the engine generators are having problems here the local phone company power back up facility, so your phone service is maintained with Woot close out stuff!

I am in for three of these, BTW. They are great for night Geocaching. I was ordering two when my wife chimed in that she wanted one.

Bought three of these last time around - and have been very pleased with them. I prefer a flashlight that fills my hand. Use one at work, one for keeping in my vehicle, and one for the house. Now buying three more - will make good addition to holiday gift bags. They are good quality flashlights at an inexpensive price. People at work have been impressed at how bright the light is as well as how far is shines. You won't be disappointed if you get these.

This is my 3rd Woot (First two were the Samsung Bluetooth handsfree for $10 that came with a $10 giftcard - GREAT DEAL). I always need a good flashlight since the cheapo's around the house seem to disappear.....ah, where do they go??? Forgive me, I digress. I am just hoping that these flashlights are as good as all of you report. I did not even look at the Woot description....never do since they are ramblings of utter non-sense that gives me absolutely no insight to the items. I just Google the item and get my info. Well, until the next GREAT BARGAIN.......
