take out the HP bloatware and you should be left with a nice solitare machine.

Solid machine ... if you run the pc decrapifier first.

+5 signature of epicness!

Great price for the specs, but.... Its an HP. The lowest rated of all laptops these days. Have 5 bad Hp's sitting behind me all within 3 years of age. Must buy the longest extended warranty you can find with this, and expect downtime in the future when you send it in for repairs...

Don't expect to play any 3D games on it with that impressive "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M".

Solitaire should play just fine though.

Where do I find a good decrapifier, or is this strictly a manual process?

Passmark ranking of 1551 to compare with other processors.

Its dead center of their 'high midrange chart'.

I bought a 3 year "at home" warranty and I had to mail in my machine when it broke. I would never buy another HP

I can't attest for HP's consumer models, but my experience with their business models has been awesome.

I bought a 2710p from their small business line (and small business support) in 2007 as I was getting ready for school, and I've abused it. Since it's a tablet, it gets taken to class with me *every day*. It's been dropped. It's shared my backpack with books, etc. It's still going strong. And support has always been great whether its been replacing a stick of memory that went bad or replacing the keyboards that I seem to go through on a yearly basis.

Both Dell and HP have the highest quality increase of all the mainstream companies when going from their 'Home' to 'Business' products.

And to whoever posted about decrapifier, HP is one of the worst at overloading your system with crapware. The last one I setup took almost 5 minutes to just get to the windows screen on 'first boot'...

What type of chipset does the wireless card use, and is it onboard or a replaceable mini PCI Express card?

Bought one off Woot weeks ago for my little brother. He's a freshman in high school and it has enough computing power to do his homework, surf the web and play his favorite online game, league of legends. No complaints for the price, which is the same as this one.

You should have bought a Squaretrade warranty. It would have been cheaper and they would have let you keep the laptop

Of course, that puts the price around $425 where we can get a new machine with similar specs and factory warranty that is just as long.

4500M video card review

Basically a decent laptop if you don't intend to do much gaming on it. According to notebookcheck it will run warcraft...barely.

Has SquareTrade changed that much for the better? About 4 years I used them for three items, one being a cell phone I bought on eBay which went bad after a month. I never got anything out of SquareTrade, they fought me all the way and claimed it was 'normal wear and tear' the the keypad stopped responding. I went online and read TONS of people with similar stories to mine.

I would love to hear testimonials that they are much easier to work with now and have changed?

How does this computer compare to today's Woot?

So yeah... I'm pretty much computer Lamuellan. Need some advice. (Yes, I realize "Lamuellan" isn't PC).

I home-school my 7 yr old twins and just need a machine that will work well for their online classes. We dont game or need anything fancy. Good deal? Or should I keep looking?

... Yes, pun intended.

As for HP reliablity, I've had mixed experiences. I bought a m9400t with a Q6700 and 9600 GSO in 08. Poor case design caused my 9600 to fail from overheating (ran at 120 C + while under load). I've since replaced the stock case with an Antec 300 and a new heatsink, and it runs at about half the heat on the processor. My dad had a HP internal removable HDD fail as well. Other than that, good experiences.

I bought this as a 'transportable' machine. 17in is too large to be portable.

How do I add the square trade warrantee?

Yes, this computer will do very nicely for your specific purpose. The 17" screen will also be nice as you won't be squinting to see the screen like you would on a similarly priced 10" netbook.

Would this be tolerable for editing HD video with Sony Vegas 9? My current PC just laughs at me (works ok with standard def)
