Ok, So can anyone tell me why webcams in general suck anyway??? I'm sure these are just as good or bad as some of the name brand crap thats out there as well...But I have yet to see a web cam worth a damn...

Optics and most don't do 30fps(that requires USB 2.0 or firewire). Most have lenses that are equivalent to what your celphone or a disposeable camera has. Still, some image is better than none. You can use two of these to video-confference over the net pretty well, and save tons in long-distance charges.

Yup, my family members have just recently discovered Skype Video, so I've been tasked with getting everyone online and viewing. Perfect for grandma to see and talk to the grandkids from halfway across the country.

I had to buy a two pack to see how crappy I look in stereo. Would have bought the six packto see what being on this planet fifty years has done to me, but I don't have enough anti-depressants in stock.

Course all you young wooters would look six times better... :-)

Woot on, sweet babies and hugs from the hippielady.

Linspire tries to be like windows. A foolish goal, in my opnion. I like Linux for all the ways it's *not* like Windows.

HP DV8000z...$2100.00

1000 sets of cameras I think... I'm too brain-fried to do WootMath, but somewhere around 850 people actually bought in, so that's about 30 woots per minute. Quite fast for a non-Bags of Cam item!

How would you power and transmit remotely if, say, you wanted to monitor areas around your house remote from the computer?

Probably a series of USB cables with a series of repeaters. I wouldn't recommend it.

Any body have captures of the quality? i'd be interested to see just how bad they are. post em when you get em.

I bought a webcam 2.5 years ago for $30 shipped that SERIOUSLY KICKS ASS, though I can't find ANYONE that sells it anymore. It's the VP-EYE 301P -- has 6 infrared LEDs with hybrid colour: intensity of infrared adjusts to ambient light, and the IR-illuminated greyscale dark areas are mixed in with the regular ambiently-lighted areas. Amazingly sharp (assuming you don't mind fiddling with the manual focus) and res of up to 640x480.

I don't know if this one is any good, but it looks just like it (though shinier) for around the same price:

hmm.. yeah its cheap... but the quality? hopefully those that bought these won't be disappointed. My girl bought a cheap, no name $20 webcam at a computer show with almost the same specs as these... it sucked.. i mean.. wow.. it sucked so bad that I was forced to buy myself a new one (thank u eBay) and give her my old logitech cam.

I've had my eye on the latest Logitech webcams for a while. I told myself that if this woot didn't sell out by the time I woke up, I'd buy into it. With that being said, I currently have a Logitech QuickCam Express, and am wanting opinions on the Logitech QuickCam Orbit MP and the Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000. I really like the zoom, pan, and tilt features these offer. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Thanks.

I love you, Woot, but I think you're out of my league. You've just gotten too popular for me. You share your affections with thousands of random strangers while I'm away, and by the time I show up, you have none left for me.

So, like the favorite musicians I've abandoned because they stopped playing clubs and started playing stadiums (stadia?) I must sadly bid you farewell.

I'll never forget you. And we'll always have Infocus 61" DLP.

I'm right there with you Tesla! It's a shame... It seems as though Woot gets a plethora of products that nobody wants and then they price it near retail to be sure they don't sell out. Then when something worthwhile comes out they don't get very many, they price it right, and they sell out within the hour!

Last time though was a major driver issue, and woot ended up like a day or say later posting the driver for xp. I still have the driver, so if any of you guys bought it have driver issues let me know via IM and ill send it to you.

Ya know, these cam's might seem like a good deal but they really aren't worth any price. A DECENT webcam MUST be USB 2.0 or Firewire for at least DECENT video quality. A USB 1.1 webcam is gonna give very choppy picture and an unknown brand will give probably at BEST moderately OK picture quality. Even if you got these just to fool around with, don't expect anything less then crap. I have an Orange iBot Firewire cam and people are AMAZED at the video quality compared to their USB 1.1 cams because Firewire/USB 2.0 are the way to go.

Price information? How hard it is to find the price? I do not really care what the price was last time. That information is really useless. I’m mean honestly, what will that information do for someone? All he is posting is the item name, price + shipping and it’s condition. All he is doing is taking up bandwidth for those who want to get it and buy one. I find this frustrating when an item sells out in four minutes.

I agree ... it's valuable to have a record of the price information. And taking up bandwidth? There are many, many others who waste our time with nonsense. Not a big thing to me.

Yeah, that's a business model I want to emulate. NOT!

However, with this business model, you have a certain number of people that religiously check the site every day, creating a greater opportunity to sell a large number of something that otherwise might sit in the warehouse of a more traditional company. Woot! can stay small, does not need to spend a lot on employees, one of the biggest overheads for a company.
It might not be the most efficient way of doing business, but it seems to work well for them.

Could not agree more. What's with the Woots lately? Tons of lower price stuff in limited quantities, and they all sell out quickly, like in an hour or so. Doesn't anyone at Woot stop to think these may be good for a Woot off? I'm left to wonder if they just don't have a ton of new products to get rid of, hence the repeat stuff, lower prices, and no Woot off.

I have one of these. They are very good for the price. I bought mine for 98 cents off of ebay and $4 shipping. Not a great deal but good cam.
