Current generation Kindle's (3rd gen.)have the same limitation on viewing PDF files as do 2nd gen. Kindles: you can view them, but the text is tiny, tiny, tiny, and you cannot use the font enlargement feature for PDFs- it is disabled. You can use the pan-and-zoom feature (on both 2nd and 3rd gen. models) to "zoom in" on a portion of a PDF, but that is really aimed at viewing charts or diagrams- not reading e-books.
As far as I know, Amazon will convert any PDF to MOBI, but you can do it yourself with Calibre if you like. Just be prepared, as PDF conversions to other formats (not just MOBI) are not always "clean".
