However, I've always had great success with Woot's customer service if there is ever a problem. Also, Amazon is covering the Kindles, and others have stated that Amazon is really great about backing this product if there is any issue.

Hope this helps... I'm sure others will tell you the same.

I ordered two of these this morning. I just now got a shipment notice and they will be here the day after tomorrow. That's pretty decent service.

Does any Kindle 2nd gen owner play Ogame? Curious to know if the browser is capable of rendering it... Particularly the messages and fleet movements.

IMO, Ipad or NookColor are better suited to magazines.

Amazon's reasoning is obviously profit. They want to lock users into buying from Amazon only, and book sales is really where all the profit is. In fact, I'm surprised that they haven't been given away older models for free (much like cellphones are often free). When the iPod was conceived, Apple had a similar strategy of locking users into their proprietary format. But they soon saw that not supporting MP3 was impossible. Apple also discussed making the IPod a Mac-exclusive product in order to spur Mac sales. Regardless, Amazon's refusal to support ePub will prove to be a fatal mistake...

Time will tell, but I'm betting on Amazon. Kindle users are very loyal to Amazon, and they still have the biggest e-book store, bar none. (And awesome customer service).

Wish everything from Woot shipped that fast!

You can use the code and buy either through Amazon, or directly at their web site: www.javoedge.com

Thank you so very much! I've been scouring for an affordable, decent cover. Also, the coupon definitely helped!

Does anyone know how to add a second item to an order already submitted. I want to buy a second one and it won't let me do it because I already used my credit card once today.

Can't quite tell if this is serious, but...any book you buy, it will show in whatever print size. One button at the bottom changes sizes up to what seems a larger size than the "large print" books at the library. Though at that point you're changing pages quite often.

It's a bit grim. A lot of the fun of a magazine is first the design and photography, second reading it nonlinearly, dipping in and out. Great book reader, but magazines are kind of sad in my experience.

If excreting the crystallized by-product is as simple as passing a kidney stone, tolerating the annoyances of air travel will be a lot easier--assuming they issue the same pain meds hospitals give out for kidney stones.

Okay so I definitely want this kindle, but I've never actually bought anything with Woot yet. Can I get a refund if it's not what exactly what I'm looking for? And how long does it usually take to ship? (I'm in flagstaff AZ)

The Kindle 2 does not have Japanese characters. There is a super discussion group at Amazon.com. Just go to the Kindle Store, then click on Discussions at the top of the page. Users talk all things about all versions of Kindle and it is a very helpful tool.

Then other reviews are very very happy, still slow shipping, but otherwise very happy. Words of Wisdom or Comfort anyone? I would say yes to another credit card, just to be sure. You still might write them though because you only pay one shipping charge ($5) for orders of 2 or 3, instead of $5 for each item.

Bluh... I'm very torn between this woot and the dailysteals Nook. I'm leaning more towards the Nook, but I don't know how reputable dailysteals is (internet's giving me mixed opinions).

Then I pop over to eBay to do some comparisons and I find Barnes & Noble is selling the wifi Nook for $99.

So... I dunno. Also, the woot icon is bouncing telling me to hurry up and decide. :S

I also recommend checking out: http://www.ereaderiq.com/

Lots to check out there for Kindle users, and you can also put in your email address and they will send you an alert complete with titles and direct links whenever Amazon adds new FREE ebooks or Kindle games to their website.

Depends on the library; many do not have a huge selection of ebooks at this point in time, and you still have to wait to borrow (unless they bought multiple licenses)if it is checked out.

Amazon also offers many free ebooks and even games for the Kindle, and has a larger selection (by many thousands) than BN.

reluctant wrote:Above and beyond its excellence as an ereader, Kindle's real strength is in its notes and annotation system. Amazon doesn't really push this as a feature, but it's what I appreciate the most about my Kindle. Whatever highlights or notes you take can be synced to Amazon over their Whispernet for free. (You can disable this if you want.) Then, those notes and highlights are available on any device you have associated with your Kindle, be it your Android phone, Windows PC, etc. This is really the deal-maker for me in choosing the Kindle over the Nook or other ereaders. I like to read both indoors and outside, so I split my reading time about evenly between my tablet and my Kindle. This way, I have everything synced up automatically.

Lastly, these notes and highlights are available from your Kindle account kindle.amazon.com. This is incredibly helpful if you're studying, and want all of your notes and highlights in one location. As a bonus, there's a link for

x-apple-msg-load://66EDAB5E-DC6F-4AF8-BA37-DEEDA2E165AD/

each highlight so you can jump that part of the book. Very useful for students. (Assuming that your text is available as a Kindle book.)

I am a heavy user of e-books. We have a Sony PRS 650 (e-ink) and an iPad. We bought the Sony because of the great text and the ability to borrow library books. Recently our library offered e- pub books for the iPad. Works fine, but the iPad's text capability isn't anywhere as good as e-ink systems. Anybody who claims the iPad is a great book reader either hasn't compared the two or isn't being candid.

Having said this, I love my iPad... It does a lot, very well. Reading books it does OK.

Once Kindle let's the user borrow library books, it will be a great reader. Till then, it isn't a match for Sony's or the Nook.

I'm not sure this version will be capable of dealing with the upcoming Overdrive software that allows library borrowing. If you want to use local library books, consider doing some research...

You can get the wi-fi Kindle (with ads- and coupons)for $114. It really depends on whether you care about 3G or not. My 18 year old daughter has a wi-fi Kindle and is very happy with it. If you have a wireless network in your home, wi-fi is even more attractive.

Er, the Nook I got from the Nook sale, that is.
