Anyone ever used a stainless steel bottle as a "flask"? Any weird taste issues?? Got a wedding coming up and I want to "hide" the expensive hooch from the people who cant control themselves.

I've tried it before, and it almost always gets a metallic taste after any period of time over an hour or so (I've had this problem even in actual flasks). I think you're better off using a plastic bottle than a metal one, or you can always just do the tried and true hide-the-bottle-outside-and-make-trips-to-refill.

For anyone wondering about the steel, Roho uses 18/8 stainless steel, which refers to the 18% chromium content and 8% nickel, also referred to as 301, 302, or 304 stainless steel (due to the composition range covered by each specification, mostly differentiated by carbon content). This is common food-grade stainless steel, similar to what your flatware is likely made of.

In for three sets. I figure if everyone keeps whining about the cover/spouts on these things, they'll be recalled, and they can send me some new ones some day.

All of our other steel ones were left, at one point or another, in the van during winter this year. When single-walled stainless steel containers filled with water freeze, they expand where they can, and it turns out that they mostly expand on the bottom. With the bottoms of all our water bottles now being "outies," it will be nice to have six of them that can actually stand when you put them on the counter, on the ground next to a soccer goal or on the bench warmer seats in the dugout.

I have one of these, but I quit using it. The lid seals great... the problem is that the button to pop it open does so really easily. It also invariably happens when the bottle has been tipped over or fallen on its side. I've ended up with soaking wet clothes or a backpack more than once, when the bottle tipped over and popped open. It's great at home when I'm leaving it on a table, not so much when you've got it in a bag or something.

Yes they do, but even after a day, the water doesn't have a metallic taste.

I suppose it depends on your planned use, but I prefer the double wall model Thermos Nissan pop top at Amazon. As the reviews state that one ROCKS! I have multiple and use one every day.

This seems like a great deal, and these would be wonderful to have on a trip I'm taking next week. Does anyone know how long shipping generally takes? Would there be any chance of them arriving by the end of this week?

Absolutely Not. Woot typically takes no less than a week and a half to two weeks and can often take even longer (Wine Woot especially).

Thanks. That's exactly the information I was looking for. I'd be taking this to class, and an easy-to-pop lid is a big no-no.

The oxide layer on the metal acts as its own liner.

These are single wall bottles, so yes they do sweat.

The lid on these is okay, but the newer lid design is much better. The main difference being there is more of a spout to drink from. Makes it easier to not be drinking from the edge of the lid where crud & stuff might accumulate.

Can't have too many metal water bottles.
Plus the tweet is perfect for a gift for my mom!
They have great bottle insulators (called Freak) for only $1 at Kickstarter right now (pledge a dollar and if the project gets funded they will charge your card and send you one).

Yes, the best food-grade stainless is 18/8. If you're buying flatware, make sure that it's 18/8 and you'll be able to scoop hard ice cream without bending a spoon! FYI, 18/10 isn't as good, it's lighter-weight.

Ive had two of these for the last two years or so. No issues with the caps. No issues with the water bottles...

Here's the downside: The design scratches off a bit, but because it is such a random design, it doesn't really show up. Doesn't insulate- doesn't keep water chilled all day, but it does seem to keep it colder for 2 hrs or so.

I REALLY like these water bottles. In for 6. (which makes them a steal at about $3.33 each. I paid about $15 each for the ones I've got at Target and I thought they were well worth it at that price.

Heres the target linkie:

These are decent bottles. The tops push button to open, so you don't worry about them leaking like the ones with the "pull up" spouts, and where you don't touch where you put your mouth with your grubby fingers. Water does taste good in them after a couple days - at room temperature. They're not insulated, so they will sweat if you put ice+drink in them on a hot day.

I bought a couple at Ocean State Job lot in CT (about $3-4 each) and they're the ones everyone grabs for first My husband/teen boys will even grab the "pretty blue" one that I bought for myself to take to soccer (function over fashion)

Costar

I have this very bottle, and unfortunately I do have the complained-about cap issues. I swear it's not a "drinking problem!" Water leaks out of the hinge. I was really disappointed because it's such a pretty bottle. But I got it on clearance, so I shouldn't have been too surprised.
Also, being single-walled, it does sweat. But no metallic taste... at least not in the small amount of water that did not end up on my lap, car floor etc.

Usually, I just swish around a little soap and water. When they start to get yucky or I've left water in them too long, I use denture cleaner (like Efferdent) and then rinse it out.

Yes, they will. It's not a double walled or vacuum bottle. It's a single walled steel bottle, but even with the sweat, it keeps water cold for a long time.
