sdc100 wrote:Now that's a QUALITY post! Thanks for the summary. I did chuckle, however, reading "single wall steel technology." Is there really a technology behind a simple single layer of stainless steel?
Yes.
Ok, why should I make the switch from my Nalgene plastic water bottel to one of these guys?
Already have two stainless single walled and two stainless insulated containers. They work great, I have never had a metallic taste to my water ( Bring 2 bottles a day to work, I don't trust the water here) Just got one set, Wife is getting tired of washing them every other day! Some one mentioned that these are the 18/10 grade stainless, if that is the case theses should be good water bottles. Anyone know if the lids are BPA free plastic?
Can the little red ring on the lid be used as a bottle opener? Just sayin - this would be a great party bottle.

Woot definitely needs a LIKE button... definately.
tartanknickers wrote:These had better be good. The last stainless bottles I bought here were the Eco Canteens. They had weird, almost microscopic holes in the steel, and the lids leaked something rotten from the getgo.
YES!!!! And the pull up time came off in my 6 yr olds mouth almost choking her! Total crap.

Yes, the brand is Thermos, but this is NOT a Dewar flask. Your coffee will go cold, quickly, and your iced tea will melt.
My two destructive children have used these for the entire school year. Held up like a champ. Never a problem. Doesn't leak. Lid still opens and closes like it should. Mouth is big enough to easily drop ice into (unlike A LOT of others).
Best friend of this thermos is a Roho Insulated Lunch Cooler/Tote

They have great bottle insulators (called Freak) for only $1 at Kickstarter right now (pledge a dollar and if the project gets funded they will charge your card and send you one). Is anyone else bothered by the unnaturally stunted root growth on the exposure bottle?
mkottman08 wrote:This is common food-grade stainless steel, similar to what your flatware is likely made of.
Except that most of us bought our flatware from Woot, so it's 18/0.
leonardv wrote:Yes, the best food-grade stainless is 18/8. If you're buying flatware, make sure that it's 18/8 and you'll be able to scoop hard ice cream without bending a spoon! FYI, 18/10 isn't as good, it's lighter-weight.
It's been a while since I studied metallurgy, but I remember the differences between 18/10 and 18/8 being more about marketing than about actual nickel content. 18/0 is quite obviously different, but 8 & 10 is just advertising speech.

depends if you need it. i still think the thermos intak bottles have a better total design, quick flip locking lid and easy drink spout. but these are half the price so you can just get them as extras naglene just annoyed me after a while, twist cap is the worst way to take sips, it becomes a chore.

These do look pretty sweet, the video is pretty entertaining too
Are these made in China so they come with a bonus layer of lead. Woot needs to put the country of origin - no one in their right mind (maybe they've already drank out of a container made in China and have lead issues) would buy a water bottle made in China.
aliencds wrote:Great question! this is the main reason why im staying away from these. i hate that taste after the water sits in the bottle all day.
But, it's generally the stainless looking aluminium ones that leave the ugly taste, hense "stainless" means cleaner from the start and by the way, do the stainless forks and spoons you use to eat with leave bad taste? Me thinks in the negative!
I have one of these already, and it's my favorite water bottle. very good, I would suggest it to anyone.

true, at work, its fine, but when I'm out on a hike it is pretty annoying
These May not be plastic but they could still have BPA. If they have that coating inside over the metal that Swiss Gear and other manufacturers use, that still leeches BPA.....never the less in for 2....
Can you provide a link of what you use/ recommend then? I'm on the edge whether I should get these or not, but if there's something better that doesn't have the taste of steel, I'm up for it! Thanks
You can watch a cheesy electronic spokesperson for the bottles here: http://www.thermos.com/roho.aspx
I bought some of the Woot EcoCanteen water bottles, which were also "stainless steel", but they started to rust. Anyone know if these will rust too?
I wish they weren't covered with fruity graphics
Got 2 of these for $3.99/each last weekend on clearance at Meijer. Makes this price with shipping not really worth it. Like them because of the lid... prevents my clumsiness at my desk from ruining electronics. The bottles do sweat, and cold drinks do reach room temperature in a few hours. But I've refilled my bottle at least twice during that time, so no big deal. Love the TWEET pattern. Agree with the post that was disappointed that every lid is red.
I've had a few water bottles over the years and all the metal ones have the same taste. I'll stick with my 32ounce nalgene bottle.
arcticspear wrote:Ummm. A single-walled bottle is hardly a 'thermos'...
You do realize "thermos" is a brand, right?
finalhour wrote:These May not be plastic but they could still have BPA. If they have that coating inside over the metal that Swiss Gear and other manufacturers use, that still leeches BPA.....never the less in for 2....
true some have liners, i kinda doubt thermos has had any bpa stuff for quite a while now. their other lines have had the bpa free label for years now.
So, this is RoHS compliant then?
Do these come already filled with water? For the price they are charging, they should.
adingostolemybaby wrote:Do these come already filled with water? For the price they are charging, they should.
So you think $2.50 a water bottle is expensive? I'm hoping that Woot loves me enough that my 4 I ordered come filled with vodka.
I'm really not sure if I still want to get these or not. If I would I'd get six. But I've heard they "leak." Well that pretty much defeats the entire purpose of the whole "lid technology"...
does it keep stuff cold/hot?
yeah, I thought a "Thermos" was insulated and so by definition had to be double-walled.
Anyone using this bottle on a bike? Any problems with the fit? I have lots of regular nalgene bottles, but my kids keep borrowing my bike water bottles so I definitely could use some more.
I'm in for 3 - $20 for 6 stainless steel bottles -- great deal. These can be for my kids, for work, or used as gifts for others. I lament that I can't mix and match, though, and that not all designs were available to choose from.
I bought one of these at target for 15 bucks...best thermos i've ever bought. Ill be buying two more, these are fantastic thermos's!! Perfect timing for camping season!
I own one of these, purchased at a much higher price last year, and love it. I never get a metallic taste or have any leaking problems. The only negative is the lip of the lid is a bit hard to clean because of the shape, but it's not a big problem.
These are great! I have one that I got two years ago for bringing water on flights and it was worked great. Target had them on clearance a couple months ago, and I bought two more. No metallic taste even after leaving water in a couple of days. I don't use it for anything other than water so I can't vouch for cleaning anything else out of it. The cap has held up longer than I thought it would and these ended up replacing a lot of our BPA bottles.209-0004
If I didn't already have a Hydro Flask then I may get one. I'll stick with what I got though.
Dang, I hope someone else said this earlier, but my roho bottle leaks at the cap. The top is this spring loaded pop-top, and the area where you press the button to activated the spring is NOT water tight. Hope this helps.
