Ditto - mine came today (pleasant surprise - I hadn't expected it until next week!) but was missing the SIM, SIM extractor, and the documentation. It has a couple minor scratches on the back, but they don't look to be from any drops or anything and it seems to be syncing OK. I guess a paper clip works for a SIM extraction tool?

Got mine today. Yeah! Mine came in a UPS box, but it was shipped FedEx. I wonder how much FedEx likes that. I'm missing the sim extraction tool and documentation (was the documentation supposed to be included?) I am lucky that it turned right on, synced without a problem and looks in great condition. No scratches or dents. Screen was a bit dirty, but otherwise in perfect condition. I'm not complaining. Although it would be nice to get that extraction tool. Then again, when I go to AT&T to buy one, I think they may have one so it should not be a problem. If Woot could manage to do something about that, it would be nice, but not required. I may want to change it later if they come out with a new one and I don't want to have to go to the store more than once. I would want them to mail it. Sorry, I'm lazy. Another reason I would ask Woot to do something is because I am not the only one that did not get what I paid for. Again, not trying to complain because I am lucky to get one in great condition. Sounds like others were not so lucky?

Sorry if this is rambling, did not make sense, or grammatically incorrect. The medication is kicking in.

So i don't think so but we are suppose to get the eject tool and documentation.

Mine came yesterday, but NO micro sim card. said would be taped to box. and no tool, (a paper clip) I went to ATT site to buy a micro chip $15.00 it won't go on line w/o it seems, even wi fi. is the chip sposs to be in box? You have to push the tool/paper clip in the little hole and the holder pops out, put chip on holder and reinsert. I had to google it to find out also. being I don't have a chip, I will have to wait.

I assumed the SIM was part of the ipad and that it would come with one. I am still waiting to get mine and I am really hoping to have a SIM card, extraction tool, and documentation. I have never bought from woot before and would like to get what I paid for.

WiFi should work without the sim. I got my iPad yesterday and it has no sim. I am able to use wireless.

How do you do that? When it's charged it immediately wants u to connect to itunes...and then u would sync with your account..?

Mine came saturday with galaxy fedex order. Charging now. Did get cable and plug, no sim tool. Were we supposed to get a sim card? I'm certain I have the eject tool in my iphone box. I read on here one could use att sim from iphone. Mine is in good shape...no prints on screen.am happy with purchase thus far.

It turned on before it was 100% charged. It was as if the previous owner just gave it to me directly.

I actually did get a SIM and a ejector tool.

I contacted the previous owner who told me there was nothing wrong with it, he sold it to a company and forgot to wipe it. I am guessing the company that bought it was the company that was the 3rd party reseller for Woot. In my case "FastAssets" in NH.

"Refurbished" by Apple means new battery and case. Not in this case, it seems.

The previous owner was very nice and apparently pretty wealthy. His emails were from TOP retailers and Mercedes, etc. His photos were from all over the world! My iPad was a world traveler! I hope I can get a SquareTrade warranty WITH the accident protection.

Wow, seems like you got an interesting iPad. I am not sure Woot should do business with FastAssets again. It just seems that so many people are not receiving the ejector tool like we were told we would. Others have scratches and look used. Yours wasn't even wiped. It's like Fast Assets moved them from one box to another without even looking at them. Does Woot really want to do business with a company that doesn't provide the same level of service they do? Do they normally have problems with the other iProducts they sell?

As far as squaretrade, when I signed up for the warranty, it didn't ask me if it was new or refurbished. It just assumed it was new. Considering accidental protection is on new items only, I'm not correcting it. I posted two discount codes earlier in this discussion. I think it's 20$ off. I got a 3 year warranty for a good deal. I think in 2 years and 364 days, my iPad is going to have an "accident".

Yeah, and it came from New Hamster as well. I was just about to ask the UPS store guy if I had another box (since I got a ship notification that it had arrived).

I guess FEDEX in a UPS box beats the hell out of SmartPost getting lost in North Carolina.

Well I reported it to woot, we'll see what happens. The card is $15 and can be had at your local AT&T store (and probably an apple store as well). The guy actually just gave me the card if I'd add the plan to my regular AT&T account (which is fine by me, because I get a discount on my ATT stuff through my employer).

Yeah, I just got a response from WOOT telling me I was an human for expecting to there to be a SIM card there and that perhaps I was even stupider in not being able to identify what the glorified paperclip that the sim removal tool looks like.

Still doesn't explain why they improperly shipped things in UPS boxes nor why the advertisement says there's documenation when there's none.

As far as I'm concerned, woot owes me $15.
Not as bad as the monumental farkage ($300) they gave me over the damn compressend and smelly memory foam mattress, but the type of thing that leaves a persistent bad taste in my mount with woots general disregard for honesty.

I got a response today asking if I had checked all of the packaging and the iPad itself before reporting that I did not receive a sim card. Um, yeah -- that is why I e-mailed in the first place. Even if I hadn't pulled the sim tray out of the machine, there is an icon in the upper left hand of the screen that alerts you when there is no card installed. Still waiting for a response to my reply.

Mine came in a UPS box via FedEx today. It's got a scratch on the face and the edges are dinged up. The SIM removal tool was there but no SIM card. It's on charge now so I'll find out shortly if it powers up.

So mine came in today. No simcard but I do have the instructions.. There is also no sim extractor tool which is on my list of contents which should be in the box. It's part of what I paid for... ? Either way I'll be emailing woot about this.

Oh on the plus side. My ipad does look like it's brand new. I do find it a bit odd like everyone else fedex dropped it off in a ups box with an apple box inside.

I received mine on Friday. No instructions, no tool, no sim card. There was a small scratch on the face, but not a real issue (only a disappointment).

I wrote Woot and told them the about all of the issues, but indicated that the scratch is very small and does not affect the viewing screen, I can live with the scratch. They wrote back adn did not mention the sim card or instructions and wrote: “Apple or AT&T should be able to help you get an extractor and the sim card. At this point we do not have any replacements available- please let us know if you have issues speaking with them.”

Overall I am just not sure of this transaction given all of the other comments. Were these really refurbished? So far mine seems to be functioning, will see what happens when the sim card I ordered arrives.

Overall I was expecting more from Woot based on previous purchases.

I've been patiently waiting for mine to arrive since I saw it was shipped. So far it has moved from NH on June 2nd, to CT on June 3rd. After that I've been checking it about once a day. It has not moved since then and FedEx still estimates that it will be in my hands on the 9th(Thursday).

As much as I'm trying to be patient it has made me more than a little anxious watching some of the comments on here. I have no idea what condition my iPad is going to be in when (if ever) it gets here, but if it's anything like some of the ones described I have a feeling Woot won't be getting any more of my business when it comes to "refurbished" products.

Well my THREE came in today. I feel sick to my stomach! I can't believe I let myself get screwed by woot so badly. I doubt I will ever order from them ever again and I will be surely telling everyone I know how bad they can screw you. This is ridiculous. They advertise refurbished and yet we get used crap that might work and might not. Refurbished means new battery, new outer shell, factory sealed in a new box. This crap is no better than yard sale leftovers. I hope woot enjoys my $1500 since they won't see another dime from me. It's sad since I am sure I would have ended up spending a lot more than that with them over time. It really sux to see greed take another company to the dark side. I am going to contact the RMA department since I didn't receive everything I paid for and I will also be contacting VISA to see what they can do. Pathetic woot, just pathetic.

Unfortunately same here. Scratched case and no SIM. I assumed a 3G iPad would be good to go when it arrived. Not that I'd have to buy extra parts or make a trip to a store! Very disappointing...

iPad arrived today! It was a day earlier than I anticipated, and came in a UPS box, which made me chuckle. No SIM card, eject tool or docs; just the cord and plug adapter accompanied it.

The device looks like it's in good condition; just a very slight bit of wear at one corner of the doc input.

Mine, too, was actually on when I pressed the home button - but instead of a lock screen, I've got the iTunes plug-me-in screen. (Hopefully, it's not a bad thing. Unfortunately for me, my Macbook's power supply died last weekend, so I can't do anything with my iPad until I get a new laptop cord. Meh.)

Apparently I won't be getting a sim card. I got this message today "In checking further into this, the iPad was not sold with a SIM card to be included with it." Below this statement was a copy of the "in the box" description. I note that the Apple website does not list the sim card either, but it is my understanding that they are included in new ipads.

As almost all have stated above I received my iPad with no SIM, extractor tool or documentation but the iPad itself was scratch free and so far works perfectly. I was able to link to my existing AT&T account for 3G service, great discount on data plan, and got the SIM for free.

Mine arrived yesterday. It looks brand new. The battery is 100% healthy. It was wiped. It had about 25% charge; enough to sync with iTunes and get my apps before I plugged it into the wall to charge. It came with the box, documentation and extractor tool (which is attached to the documentation) but of course no micro sim. The sim that I got from ATT doesn't fit. So much for the employee who scoffed at me when I asked for a "micro" sim...Going to ATT again today. Oh- I was at ATT yesterday picking up a microcell and the sales person said that if a person brought an iPad into the store and activated it there they would get a free month of service.

Just arrived in Denver, CO. Could pass as new except for USB cable partway uncoiled and out of its slot and tape that once held the box closed still on there.

I got stickers and the SIM key, so if what I got includes the so-called documentation ... it's just the legalese of FCC warnings and warranty disclaimers. And the website address.

It doesn't really look like it's charging off my PC, but I dunno. Gotta go set up all that iToons account stuff.

Here is the response I got regarding why some people are getting SIM cards and some are not:

------------
As was previously provided, the "In the Box" section indicates what is to be included with the order. As no SIM card was indicated to be included, it would not be an expected item to be included with the order. Unfortunately, the vendor would be responsible for removing the SIM card from the units. As such, it would not be unexpected for some to possibly be missed during the refurbishment process.

DBCathcart

My three iPads arrived Saturday. All three were without SIM cards and two were without the SIM card extraction tools (glorified paper clips). One of the boxes had a IMEI number that did not match the IMEI number on the iPad inside. None of the three iPads have any significant scratches though, so I feel relatively fortunate.

In my opinion, Woot was not providing customers appropriate information when the product was offered. If SIM cards were not to be included, Woot should have made that clear, as well as notifying prospective purchasers that they would have to get SIM cards from AT&T before the product would be usable. I called AT&T today and they are sending three SIM cards at no charge; they should arrive in one or two days.

These are the first refurbished products I have ever ordered that did not arrive in like-new condition. The packaging is inconsistent, and apparently so is the quality for the products shipped. I will certainly be more wary of "refurbished" products offered by Woot in the future.

If you buy a 3g model new it comes with a SIM card but it is not listed on the items included in the box. I chatted online with someone on the apple website and was told that a SIM card is considered to be part of a 3G iPad.

ivanivanovich

quality posts: 24 Private Messages ivanivanovich

I divide these issues into three categories:

    1. No SIM card - not a blame-woot problem. The contents were

    * in writing;
    * in normal-sized print;
    * in the same place woot always puts them

Have you ever looked at a box in the store where the contents are printed on the side, then got home to find something extra tucked in there?

Unusable? I probably won't sign up for yet another data plan, and yet I'm using mine.

    2. Customers not warned of third-party drop shipping. This is a goof-up that woot may not realize it made. Suppose it's delivered to your work address. The mailroom calls to ask whether you're expecting a UPS box from some person you've never heard of in NH. No? Evacuate the building - it's either anthrax or a bomb!

    3. Missing keys, unintentionally-included SIM cards, scratches, ... poor quality control. Not as bad as the Entourage Edges, it sounds like, but not helping woot's image. Or Amazon's.
Not a stellar performance by woot, by any means. But not all the flub-ups rank at the same level of flub-uppery.

Okay, no, I don't buy that. It's part of being connected to AT&T, which they assume you will be since you had your choice of buying (from Apple) 3G or not 3G.

That and the person was trying to be sympathetic. Yeah. Or cross you up with disinformation because you didn't buy from Apple.

Yeah, that's it. See? I have it all figured out! ;-) :-) ;-)
