Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

It has to be Godzilla. How many movies did they make about him? Stay Puff had 1 and he wasn't the lead character......and only lived for 10 minutes.

I understand Cthulhu is a supreme deity in mythos, but I don't beleive that you need to make a die roll to keep your sanity.

I feel compelled to go with the Cloverfield thingee. Not as classic as anything from Japan, but seriously, seriously cannot be beaten. I mean, the thing has thousands of little spawnlings that pour off of it with snapping poisonous jaws--one bite makes a persons guts melt down and explode...and that's just the babies.

Also worthy of note: The Cloverfield monster actually *didn't* get beaten. Sure, it was hit with direct aerial bombing and the full artillery power of the modern military...but it apparently didn't care, and ended up killing, well, everyone.

Cthulhu. I can't believe he wasn't included as a basic option. It almost feels like these polls are a joke.

I have to go with the AD&D Tarrasque. Destroys pretty much everything it comes across, and even once you defeat it you have to use a Wish to kill it. Even then, I'm not sure.

If we're limiting this to movie monsters, then I'd have to go with the Alien queen already mentioned, just for the visual design.

Cloverfield would make a good MST3K movie, other than that it was crap.

Edit: I've seen worse movies, but I can't see what people liked in cloverfield.

Still single, can't imagine why.

It's not that the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man was scary or indestructible, it's that he was the innocence of youth turned apocalyptic destroyer. And it was a great movie that (almost) everyone likes.

sometimes i like to put on the cape and scream like a monkey.

Cthulhu.
Hands down... anything described as "a mountain walked or stumbled" kinda puts things in scale... The StayPuft man (100 ft tall)? Squish between toes.. likewise with the blob. Queen Alien? Seriously? Versus a fecking MOUNTAIN??? Hell, Ripley held it off with a power loader for piss sake and she's only 6 foot tall! King Kong is about 20 feet tall (read the book, people) and Godzilla is 80 meters (or about 263 feet) tall...
Now lets look at mountains... by definition a mountain must have a minimum height over base of at least 2,500 m (8,202 ft)...

edit to add height of StayPuft
