I was planning to keep the docking station for my (very solid) Thinkpad T500 and resell the laptop portion for $200.
Bummer. The laptop looks solid. Perfect for a student doing browser and light office apps.
It's not unlike my T500 in specs. I love Windows XP - very solid and intuitive. Vista and Windows 7 are crap. I'm about to The Day the Ponies Come Back (2000) the $900 17" Intel i7 based HP laptop I got to replace it.
The dock is compatible with the T500? I did not know that. Does yours allow you to pull the key out while UNlocked? I have two 'Thinkpad' labelled docks, and I can pull the keys out any time I choose. However with this 'IBM' labelled dock, I can only remove the key if the dock is in the locked position. Any one else notice that?
Going off topic: Now, I fully agree with you that Vista is junk, however why do you think 7 is? I've been using Windows 7 for about a year now, and I have to say, it's impressive. I hate to sound like a Microsoft fanboy (I can't stand the company most of the time), however I quite enjoy 7. For how good XP was, 7 is actually far more stable. I've had a few BSOD's here and there, but the overall stability is actually very good. I rarely need to reboot (XP I always had to reboot every few weeks). Plus it's actually easy to use in certain situations (ie. Wifi management). Granted, I hate some of the simplistic layouts (ie. Homegroups, Control Panel grouping). Plus the start menu search box is pretty sweet. The Startup Repair even does a decent job most of the time.
At first I didn't like 7 either (they got rid of the classic start menu ), but once I got used to it, and learned the 'ins and outs' of it, I have no problem.
Plus 7 runs like a champ on this thing, even with Office 2010 (granted, I have 4GB in it, however it also ran fine with just 1GB, but I didn't leave it in there very long).
Well, I better stop talking before I lose my geek card.
As for the XP key on the laptop, I never had a chance to use it. I put 7 on immediately. Call up John Greco at PC Metro, he should be able to hook you up, he's been very helpful.
