Alas. I'm already in for one of these- thanks for the buyers remorse though :P
I have a similar model from woot and it's really good for most things but not lots of reading. Just a tad bit too fuzzy on letters. Otherwise good looking and solid.
These types of monitors should not be referred to as LED monitors. This is an LCD monitor with an LED backlight NOT an LED monitor. LED monitor means it has LEDs in the actual screen instead of an LCD not what the backlight is.
Not a preferable brand. I prefer an HP 2311x 23-Inch LED Monitor instead.
mark160 wrote:How do you get audio with a xbox360 hooked up through hdmi? I have logitech 5.1 speakers.
The short answer is... you don't.There is however, a hack.If you have a cable that supports SPDIF, you can just gut it back to the housing and remove the plastic. This gives you the connecter w/ the SPDIF socket. you can CAREFULLY insert the HDMI cable below the connector, and then insert the connector. vid goes to the monitor, audio goes to the AV receiver of your choice. You may have to adjust things a bit, but it works.(you could try it w/ the audio out cables too i suppose, may have to solder a connector for the speakers).
I also am curious - glossy bezel or matte? Like others, I'm not in for a shiny reflective band around any monitor. If this is a matte finish ... I might jump in ...
nothing
This is the HP 2311X Monitor and i have it and it is nice monitor, i paid $190.00 for it when i bought it from best buy

Refurbished, with shipping - available for $165.00
is that the BBG's Koi?...looks like it is
HairyButt wrote:Is this VESA Mount compatible? The back picture makes it look like it only works with the little stand provided and the plugs would obstruct any wall mount. Can anyone at woot confirm this?
This series of HP monitors do not have VESA mounts.
I bought a 27 inch last woot time and it is a great monitor. I am no expert but the thing is awesome and was a great deal...
NetworkGenius wrote:According to the manual, it DOES do VESA mounting! http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02868141/c02868141.pdf
Not really. You can buy a VESA adapter for it. The monitor does not have VESA mounting.
puckk wrote:I bought a 27 inch last woot time and it is a great monitor. I am no expert but the thing is awesome and was a great deal...
This is a different series. I bought 2 of the 27s last December which are HP 2710m. The offering today is a LED version.
Sirius GPP deal with the two for tuesdays. l a m e is a bad word ?!?!
Funny. That is exactly what this monitor is... with the front logo removed.
i'm in for 3; having three of the same monitor model creates a significant increase in usability when gaming across all three. 5760x1080 resolution for the win. you might as well upgrade now; they stopped making 1920x1200 monitors, LEDs are amazing, and 120hz 3d isnt that good.
So no VESA mounting options, ports are horizontal, instead of vertical making hiding wires a pain. Add to that the recertified aspect. Meh. 23" at Dell.com are usually hovering around $150 or so, making this a "deal" but not spectacular. FYI. Some folks are posting "this is an LED, NOT an LCD". LED refers to the backlighting used folks, not the actual display element. The actual display is still an LCD, however, instead of it being backlit with Fluorescent light, it's backlit with LED which are dimmable, providing better contrast and color. It's not as if it has 2,000,000 tiny LEDs inside it.
How can you resist a mouth like that, woot! ?
Is it still interesting to point out that Famous Maker is HP? Every time?

Woot sold out to amazon.... Thus no more 2 for tuesdays and much worse prices over all....hey the folks at amazon have to make back what they paid for woot somehow... You didn't think they would take a cut in pay did you?

As a child, I once asked my dad "who was Mr. Frontage"? I figured he was someone important because every small town in Texas has a sign for "Frontage Road".
I bought one of these the last time they were on. It works fine, it does what I bought it to do. And yes, it is an HP.

Thank you for openly criticizing the current state of affairs regarding this one-time GREAT yet crappy site... Certain staff, I am sure, long for the "good ol' days" of unabashed humor and middlin' to better merchandise... My fears are realized that the onetime Connoisseur of Crap no longer exists in the domain of the f5 key, and rather we shall, and will pursue other unattainable wields from those vendors of better repute... EDIT: Interestingly enough is the fact that woot! now shows up in your email inbox as the woot! Daily (in)Digest(ible) much like the Amazon.com (un)Deal Of The Day... Does this monitor have the capability to wall-mount?
Today is supposed to be 2 for Tuesday!!!! Has Woot.com gone MAD
Here's what I do: Hook up the HDMI cable like normal. Then you take the standard AV cable that comes with the XBOX 360 and plug it in also. If the connector housing is to big that both cables won't fit at the same time you can easily remove the connector housing and will affect the performance any. Then you get a 3.5mm to RCA (Example)adapter. You plug the Red and White RCA cables into the Adapter. Then you get a 3.5mm female coupler (Example) and connect one end to your adapter and the other to your speakers. Alternatively, if you do not like the idea of having to remove the connector casing off of you cable you can go to a local store and pick up an aftermarket cable(The connector housing is usually much smaller) or get a product such as this (Xbox 360 Audio Adapter). You can then run RCA cables to your sound system or hook it up to the Adapter and coupler I mentioned earlier. Hope this is clear and understandable!

I was trying to determine that myself. The woot specs don't say if it's LCD or LED display, that's a HUGE bit of missing information. Though the broken HP website appears to indicate it's LED display: http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/display/display/1/storefronts/XP598AA%2523ABA "The wonders of LED"... "See the detail: get deep blacks, brilliant color, and clarity with the ultra-high dynamic contrast ratio" LED displays do tend to have high contrast ratio, though I've seen them higher. Ahh here are the specs on a working webpage at hp: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06b/382087-382087-3284302-215012-215012-3770740-5092405.html "Contrast ratio 1000:1 static; 3000000:1 dynamic". That's low for LED. Also, "Display type TN". That's "Twisted nematic", (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#Twisted_nematic_.28TN.29) which is a type of TFT LCD. So I think this really IS an LCD. Bad Woot for slathering us with the term "LED" when it only refers to the less important backlight aspect!
have bought two of these from woot in the past and am very happy. this deal is cheaper and I might just get another!
It says it tilts and slides, anyone know if this swivels to portrait mode?
Okay Honey, so I'm not the best shopper in Backwater Gulch, but this time I did some research, mostly because of fear of another beating about the head and neck. It appears that I can purchase a "famous maker 23" monitor" for anything from $137 and up to $250, brand new, with warranty and free 2 day shipping. So this isn't a great deal after all.
alitvinc wrote:Today is supposed to be 2 for Tuesday!!!! Has Woot.com gone MAD
Sellout.Woot is a two-fer if that helps. Or you can plunk down $259.98 + $10 shipping and create your own two-fer.

All "LED" monitor's on the market are LCDs with LED backlighting. There are two main types on the consumer market. The less expensive edge lit displays have LEDs lighting the screen from the side. The better versions have LEDs directly behind the LCD, allowing sections of the screen to be dynamically darkened based on picture content. More info - http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/led_backlighting.htm
no vesa wall mount on this one
I also notice that there is no mention of speakers... I can only guess that it means there is no speaker present... not that HP was ever known for having good speakers in their flat panels, but it would reduce desk clutter.... So remember, you might be able to watch the You-Tube video of Billy smacking his dad in the jewels... but you wont be able to here Billy's dad give Billy a lesson in sailor speak 101.
mkottman08 wrote:Alas. I'm already in for one of these- thanks for the buyers remorse though :P
You could buy 2 of these for the cost of that monitor.
osocurious wrote:It says it tilts and slides, anyone know if this swivels to portrait mode?
Yes, it rotates to either mode. Download software from HP so that it automatically flips the image.
Looks like similar (but new, and non-stripped) monitors go for about $30 more new with free shipping at Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007617%20600060968%20600030617&IsNodeId=1&name=23%22&Order=PRICE&Pagesize=20

LED ALWAYS means backlit. The only thing close to a tv or monitor made out of individual LEDs is OLED (in that it doesn't require any backlighting). It's not false advertising so much as what should be understood by the terms by this point, altho there ARE different types of backlighting techniques. In for 1, incidentally, lowest price I've ever seen, and I need something to tide me over till I can afford a better TV, hopefuly around the Holiday sales. Current monitor has been flickering on me after opening/closing full screen programs and games. I think the caps are failing, again.
