So these are water resistant to 10m (about 33 feet), but they are not waterproof. Was trying to learn about how they determine waterproof, vs. water resistant, in watches and found this nifty page explaining it all.

Basically it says

A watch with this resistance level is protected against accidental exposure to water; for example, splashes, perspiration or accidental immersion. It should not be exposed to any water pressure.

Don't go swimming with it.

I'm not sure why, but these watches are SUPER popular in the UK. And they know fashion over there.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

So, why would there be a backlight button, if they don't have a backlight?

This type of watch is great for lefties who wear their watch on their right hand. No clasp to feel like it is pressing the carpal tunnel into your nerves as you use a mouse.

I'm not fat, so I'm assuming 18cm, but I've never measured anything on my body other than my weight so I'm probably assuming wrong for some reason.

Might as well get 15.

The tins the watches come in look more expensive than the watches. Great for someone who looses their watch. Constantly.

What terrible things would a kid have to do to deserve this?

Actually, I was tempted at first. They're ugly, but they're so cheap it might be nice to have one or two as spare -- or disposable -- watches. But five? I don't know that many deserving kids.

If Woot ever offered these so I could pick the color I get, I'd be in for some. I understand the manpower involved in that kind of thing is probably disproportionate to the value of the product, but eh. I'd be in for a bunch if I knew they'd all be black or grey.

I can't watch the video without wanting to do the Jim Carrey side-to-side head dance thing...

Maybe if Woot threw in a matching Woot shirt so I'd be as color coordinated as the guy in the video, I'd buy them. It's just not the same without the matching shirt.

Not really, since they are only water resistant, which means they can handle only accidental contact with water. I had a batch of water resistant watches a while back, and they croaked from things like hand washing.

I thought of buying these guys for kid watches, but since they'd last less than a day apiece, even $1.75 seems wasteful.

Given my experience with the not-a-snuggie "random" color selection, you're more likely to get all 5 in the same color.

ThunderThighs wrote:Here's a video showing a man wearing the watch

I had one of those watches that are hanging by clothespins at the very beginning of the video. But it was branded with another company, I assume they are all basically the same, though.

Anyway, I bought it in Japan for around $10 as it was going to be a while before I got a cellphone, and I wanted a way to tell time until then. It basically died two weeks later. It literally just stopped... even though it was a digital watch. Also, before it stopped, the time would randomly change itself.

Assuming the same technology are in these, I'm betting that, that's why you get 5 of them for $12.

"Random Colors" means they have 5,000 of the two colors left over that nobody else would buy and that's what they are blowing out cheap and sending.
