I think I'd feel better about these "high performance" earbuds if they were $5 with 99 cent shipping instead of the other way around!

Try this on for size:

Quote (2 of 2):

1. Worst headphones ever. No Bass. Scratchy noise. Sounds like a blown speaker. Little Wayne don't care about these. Try listening to Pass the Dutchie on these and it sucks.

2. Lost my V-Modas and decided to try to replace with a cheapy. BIG MISTAKE! These buds have NO bass response at all, require full volume on my Ipod to drive a decent listening experience, that is, if you don't like bass. Wimpy covers on the buds7 day return policy, which means if its from shipping date, there is no return. Waiting for a Skull Candy sale. Where oh where are my V-Modas?

Im with you on this no matter how low the cost is, it is not worth the cheap sound you will receive. Unless of course you are buying it for your kids or not for music "podcasts".

There's so much crap flying around here about frequency response. Here's the real story.

You can't hear lower than about 20Hz or higher than 20KHz (at the most; there are few adults who hear higher than 14KHz).

If you want the things to vibrate, then, sure, get lower response. You won't hear it, but it will make your ears tickle.

The problem with cheap stuff like this claiming a frequency response of 20Hz to 20KHz is that they don't give you a tolerance. Sure, they might reproduce sounds at all those frequencies, but if 440Hz is a thousand times quieter than 2000Hz, then you won't hear it.

Unless frequency response is listed as 20Hz to 20KHz +/- 3db, then it is useless marketing crap. If it's +/- 10db, it is useless marketing crap. If it's +/- 1db, then they are lying, because ear buds don't move enough are to produce bass that low.

If someone tells you that you want 14Hz from ear buds, they are either trying to take your money or justify spending far too much themselves.

About the only time I use the in ear headphones are when I mow the lawn, so they get abused, snagged on tree branches, sweaty, etc. 99c per pair is great compared to 10 bucks a pair. In for three.

I've spent $14 on earbuds and there was no base in them.

You want good bass, you want at 12hz or better.

I have these: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665370693#specifications

They're the only brand I can find with these type of covers. I don't like the round buds that you push in, every sound in my body is echoed and I can hear my blood going thru my veins. ;)

I really really hope you mean the band RUSH and not the mouth!

Speaking of the band, in the summer of 1980 one of my housemates had just gotten a job as a Duracell battery rep. He brought home one of the first Sony Walkman Cassette players in the US, as they were just releasing it here and Duracell was promoting it. The demo cassette was "RUSH" - talk about being blown away after growing up with mono plugs and crappy portables...

Rush album: Permanent Waves - track one: The Spirit of Radio - track two: Freewill... Perfect! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tq-UsaRchI & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnxkfLe4G74

This is the equivalent to the earbuds you find in a "Dollar Store" for 99 cents.

Pure junk that will kill your ears with anything past conversation volume level.

That was exactly my point in my post. My skull candy ones are 12-20K Hz. I think the Apple ones are about that too.

Anything lower (e.g., with a subwoofer) you're just feeling, and you're not going to get that from any pair of earbuds.

Cheers.

I beg to differ:

So in ideal lab conditions you can hear 12 Hz, but since we generally don't use our buds in ideal lab conditions 20 Hz is probably a more "real world" limit.

Even weirder, one set (Elvis) swelled up to be almost unrecognizable.

Devo and Kiss are mostly unchanged from when I first tried them, for better or for worse.

Hmmm. Interesting. Only the drums dropping out on the left?

Also, soaking the swelled ones in ex-lax appears to help.

had to quote for truth

hz figures without any other info is useless, almost inaudible bass at low frequencies exist but that is just the partial truth...and that is all marketing requires. anyways super low bass on earbud headphones tends to be lies regardless.

I realize that its kinda cool to get these to "try them out" or try to re-sell them, but if you look at the close up pic they just look too damn crappy. Kind of disrespectful to the ears themselves. Then you also have to spend $5 for shipping. I feel bad simply out of principle that crappy headphones cost less than the shipping.

You know if you check Walgreens or Amazon dot com there will be those widely common earphones by Sony? Those that can lose the padding foam easily? They usually cost no more than $7, so buying from walgreens will cost you about $7. Those Sony actually sound good.

Not gonna lie, I hate this type of earbud, the kind that squeezes into your ear. If you've never used this type before think hard before you buy these, I know many people who strongly dislike the feeling of this type of bud.
