I bought this last time around. Here are my comments:

I was surprised that it had no AV inputs. Had to buy another cable set for the Wii.

I like that the inputs are selected from a menu, (quicker, easier)

The volume scale is LONG and takes a while to go up and down but the actual range of volume is acceptable.

You must use the auto-set for DirecTv remote as Silo has no codes. If you e-mail them they answer quickly on everything I have asked them but they will tell you to auto-set the remote.

It is good that they answer so quickly, makes me feel like they are real (Silo, I mean)

Picture is fabulous for the specs given. We watch a lot of Formula 1 and Rugby and Football (the real stuff, not soccer) and are very happy even though the low refresh rate.

I like that the TV pivots on the pedestal.

This one is $30 less thanlasttimewhen Ibought. I was happy last time because I could find this TV all day long on the web for the same price but MUCH higher shipping.

I have had no prolems with captioning and change the source with remote easily.

Got one of these the last time around when they were $399. Hooked it up in my bedroom to my Power Mac G4 (DVI to HDMI) and a second Wii (composite until I get another set of component cables). HD looks awesome on it. The color range is great, the TV itself looks great on my wall (standard VESA 800x400mm I think?), and I love it.

The picture quality is just about on par with my Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000. I don't use it to watch TV, so I can't say anything on how fast it takes to change channels. The menu system isn't great but is coherent enough to understand. It has a sleep function which I've used quite a bit. The one big complaint I have is a lack of a side input panel. That being said, the back inputs are pointed downward, which makes it easier to attach stuff once it's mounted on the wall.

Definitely worth the money.

Hi people I bought this exact tv a while back from woot and I really was impressed by it. To tell you the truth the internal audio is reasonably good. I am a tough critical and if the high very muffled even a little it would anger me lol. The picture is also impressive considering the price. Anyone asking if it is only 60Hz don't be foolish of course it is. Don't expect 3D for this price don't kid yourselves. I would recommend this tv to anyone because it has given me no trouble at all and it has performed flawlessly for almost a year now.

I got the 40" Silo for $380 a few months back, and it was a great deal! It's still working great. So 2 more inches for $10 less is even better!

I have the 40" Element TV from the last Woot Off. This TV was labeled as having S-Video and didn't either. I know that S-Video is not an HD connection but it is the best I have on my receiver. My point is this TV does not have this connection and is labeled as having it. The connection to the left of the VGA port is a coaxial digital output.

PLEASE REMOVE THIS SPEC IT DOES MATTER TO SOME!

Don't know the precise amounts, but based on the depression his fist is making in the bag, I'd guess there is a pretty fair amount of power output. And, with a lot of power being put out, there's probably a lot of heat (and sweat as well).

Good tip about the SquareTrade warranty. I found a coupon code online and saved 25% on 3yrs + the Accidental Handling Damage coverage I added 'cause I can be clumsy.

Total still comes in under other online *new* 42" 1080p LCD HDTVs with shipping.

Did anybody find a manual for sure? Pls point me to the post if they did.

For what its worth, as close as I could find for "who makes this", what are the I/O in the image, and a manual ...

This woot gives a 1 Yr Warranty link to NIVS that is a PDF that links to www.usanivs.com. That site, SIGMAC/NIVS, is slightly more helpful than the Silo site and has a *similar* 42" 1080p LCD HDTV. The only manual there( site link, download link) I could find is for the 32" Sigmac NE32AB1, *but the I/O diagram/key in it matches exactly* the I/O Ports image for this one.

From what I can tell they've been around at least since early 2009, the website is fairly simplistic, this is indicative of a fairly small company (compared to the big box brands).

I've only found one bad review (it's from early 2009) here

Take in to consideration that the parts are likely made outside the U.S., and then probably assembled or packaged in CA. They are a smaller company, local residents may have better luck as far as repairs and warranty service goes.

There are benefits however, support is probably a few regular guys sitting in the office, limited hours, but likely friendly and intimate service.

My friend actually has one of these (bought a couple of years ago). The T.V. works fine, looks fine as well, nothing spectacular. The remote was abysmal, we went and got a universal one immediately, which was a pain, as Silo isn't a big enough name to have an programming number assigned to it. We eventually got it working with the Orion code. That may be a hint to who "actually" makes these T.V.'s.

Edit: Upon further inspection, there may be a chance that RCA is manufacturing these as well.

Excellent post. Took me a good 10 min of reading to find some useful info onn all of these posts!

Thanks

It is a low end black friday brand.

I bought a 27" tubed tv a few years ago and the on off switch went out within a month. It was going to cost more to fix it than the price I paid for the TV

Never heard of Silo, but I bought a tv with very comparable "Specifications:" and it does everything I wanted and more. It was my first large screen and it does seem to make watching a different experience.

Mostly though, Gee I say for myself - I paid $300.00 more than this tv, and I'm a ...

And I'm good with it, especially after I spit out into the back yard.

Else, I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

I just bought the Silo 24" TV from Woot last week. I got it today and am very surprised and impressed by the quality of picture. It is about as good as my "Famous Maker" 25" LCD I bought from sellout last year. For those curious, mine has a matte screen and it is visible all the way around the unit. Mine is LED and bright, no heat, lots of connections, all work.

This should work for practically all your basic TV needs. If you are concerned with connecting things like U-Verse, you will not have a problem. If you need adapters, you should have no problem finding them at Radio Shack.

The TV does not have wifi. Few TVs have wifi because so many peripherals have internet capabilities (e.g. BluRays, PCs, AppleTV, Wiis, etc).

Hope this helps. I was not expecting much and am very very satisfied so far. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer. Again, not the same TV but the same low-rent brand.

PS... My 24" Silo has "Analog" and "Digital" tuners according to the settings menu. Not sure if they work. I have a D/A converter box from Comcast so I'm strictly analog. In fact, I can only attest that Ch 4 works properly...

But for those worried about QAM, it may work.

I don't know about this unit's Smart Sound, but the CALM Act is supposed to be in effect before the end of the year, hopefully that will help also.

If you're converting your cable co's digital signal to analog and displaying the results on CH 4, you probably could do much better with a slightly different hookup. If you have the ability to hook up your cable box to your TV via an HDMI cable, you're going to get a much better picture. Depending on your cable system and the converter box, you may need an upgrade to a newer converter box.

Soooo even if it's really crappy it'll be really great to me, I'll let you know.

Oh, serious, at this price it was an unbeatable deal. I did much research and came across a couple sites selling this for $599(http://www.tristatecamera.com/lookat.php?sku=SILLTSL4267F) so we really got a bargain here folks.

We bought one too, upgrading from an old about 20 yr old tube TV. Anything is going to be better than that!

Since we have young kids, we will DEFINITELY be wall mounting it. But, I'm having a problem decipering the VESA mount info. There doesn't appear to be a VESA mount in the 387mmx387mm specified in the specs. Anyone know what size I should actually be buying? I would like to have the VESA mount ready to go when the TV gets here.
