So I have gotten a few random craps over the years and most were just that, not complaining. But this time Woot has out done themselves.
I got:

2x small woot shirts
1x Fact or Crap dare game
1x Topsy Turvy Strawberry planter
1x reusable bag
1x Bose Wave music system w/CD. No box or FM antenna but it works and sounds great. I win!

Sorry, but there's nothing legal about camping out in the left lane. The left lane is for passing, not cruising. The fact that it's rarely enforced doesn't change its legality. Or its rudeness.

On the Ohio turnpike you can get a ticket for cruising the left lane.
Ask me how I know that.

Now, can we put out the flame and get back to the crap at hand?

ok. So, looking for some help.

Not wanting to jinx myself...

but I have a 1.0 pound, 18 in. x 12.6 in. x 12 in. package being delivered tomorrow (7/27), according to FedEx.

The pounds/dimensions have not changed, the delivery date jumped up by one day yesterday, but now shows it'll be here (Nevada) on Wednesday.

I guess my question to the panel is, have any "you know whats" been contained in a small poundage package, and, has anyone else out here gotten such a light package, thus far in this parade?

Thanks, in advance. I will be sure to update.

Ok, I am reading a lot of complaining going on. I have paid a measly 8 dollars and in return I have had this feeling from when I was a kid, waiting to see what Santa has brought me for over two weeks.

I really don't care what I get. The anticipation has been wonderful.

Thanks Woot for giving us such excitement.

you generally start strawberries with purchased plants, rather than seeds anyway. I suspect Texas Ag Dept has restrictions on sending live plants over state lines.

I am seeing odd Smartpost behavior. My woot orders used to go through Denver a couple years ago, but for 2 years have gone through Kansas City. Now this Bundle of Crops has gone through Denver, to Henderson Colorado, and then to North Platte, and shows as in transit to my town. Today is the original estimated delivery day, but that had changed the day after shipment started to the 28th. I have to say thank you woot and smartpost for keeping us on our toes. 4.5lbs supposedly.

My Bundle of Crops came in today, the mail carrier made a special trip.

FedEx description 16" cubed 26.4 lbs
actual Box 19.5" x 19.5" x 34" 25 lbs

1 T-shirt womens S Almost Too Complicated
1 Strawberry planter
1 Pair Harbinger paddling glove XL
1 Discovery Keyboard Box smashed, loose items.
1 AC/DC USB adaptor use unknown, smashed box no instructions, or idea of what else was in the box
1 Creative brand small zipped case
1 Box ShamWoW (box smashed)
1 Case Cuisinart Folding BBQ Tool 4-Sets
1 Black and White reusable Grocery Bag

Overall my best crap ever. I don't know if I will use any of it, but I have some Christmas gifts ready to go and you never know when you might be stuck up a creek without paddling gloves.

Like all my craps, box opened and rummaged through (this time from the bottom) because of all the smashed boxes hard to tell what I missed.

clide wrote:Alright, thanks for letting me know.

Hopefully someone can test these out without pictures. Once we find out what works I can update the how-to with the complete steps.

What we are going to be doing is shorting select pins on the circuit board to hopefully break something in a way that allows it to work like mine. Please do this at your own risk, and it is especially important to have your audio input be something that wouldn't upset you to break.

You need to have a small piece of solid (not stranded) wire with both ends exposed for this. I just used a twist-tie with the ends stripped.

First you need to remove the main circuit board. There are two screws holding it in and one machine screw and nut on the antenna jack. Remove all those and it should just slide out.

Then you need to find the amplifier. This is the long chip with 15 pins that is attached to the large side of the heatsink. Pin 1 identified by a small circle on the front of the chip. Find where it is attached on the bottom side of the board and keep track of pin 1.

Try the following on the amplifier chip with the system plugged in and the audio source running. If it starts working just stop there and do not do any more steps. Also let me know which step it started working on. Again we are just doing this with a small piece of wire one thing at a time, no soldering needed.

Hold the wire against the connections on the back of the board to connect pin 7 to pin 8 (for reference pin 7 is ground and should have a big fat trace running to it that is connected to a bunch of other things). Try for a couple times just to make sure you are making a good connection. Next try to connect pin 4 to pin 8. Careful here, pin 4 is live with about 15 volts and will cause sparks when connecting to pin 8. Try this for just a few seconds at a time and for just a few times.

If none of that did anything then we need to move on to the dock connector. This is the long flat connector with a bunch of little white wires coming in and a red and black on each side. You should have access to all the pins coming out of the connector before they go into the board. For this one leave the power plugged in, but unplug your audio source.

Hold one side of your wire against the outermost pin on one side (doesn't matter which side). This is live with about 8 volts I believe. Avoiding the two outermost pins on both sides (where the red and black wires come in) connect the other end of the wire to each of the other pins for about a second. Two of the pins adjacent to the outer ones (numbers 3 and 4 if we were numbering the connector from the front) should cause the speakers to make a loud pop when connected. Go back and do it one more time just to make sure you got them all.

Plug your audio back in and test it out. If those steps didn't do anything then maybe I just got lucky and did something accidentally, or maybe you did get a broken unit.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Dude you are awesome! Someone get this man another quality post!

I replicated your steps like so:

First I removed the main circuit board removing the two screws and the machine screw and nut. For those looking to do this, take off the battery cover for access to the machine screw. Then the board just slides out.

After identifying the amplifier chip, I used a twist-tie with the ends stripped and had the system plugged in and source running, I held the wire on the connections of 7 and 8. Nothing happened on this step, I tried it several times a few seconds at a time.

Then I connected pin 4 to pin 8. Pin 4 is definitely alive, it sparked, it sputtered, and it worked! I now have a modified system that I can hook into with everything I've tried!

Thank you so much. Now the only question is if you can figure out a way to control the volume with the mod. Is that even possible? Thanks again!

EDIT: Also should be noted that I had done your previous step of soldering the 5 pin chip.

It's probably TPW speaking to you in morse code and/or braille, trying to tell you that Woot apologizes for the inconvenience and that your final item will be shipped separately from the rest of your craps.

Kidding... I'm not sure what these indicate, unfortunately.

Great! Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to update the video to show this step.

It should scale from quiet to very loud with the volume adjustments of a normal audio device.

It's not really possible to use the volume adjustment knob on the boombox because all it did was send a signal through the dock to the XM receiver which told it to increase volume. So it doesn't do any adjustments to the amplification of the audio, it just tells the receiver to adjust it's audio levels.

BTW for those who are curious what we are doing by connecting pin 4 to pin 8. I believe we are breaking the standby mode of the amplifier chip so that the system doesn't have to detect that the receiver is in the dock to start amplifying the audio. I'm sure there is a more elegant way to do this that doesn't involve frying part of the chip, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about circuits to figure out that method.

1 Fact or Crap game
1 Woman's Small t-shirt with donuts on it
1 useless XM Radio receiver
1 flower covered bag

Also my XM box was beat to hell and ripped open with a receipt for Best Buy taped to it. I don't even understand why Woot got these... I guess they just made a bunch of money off suckers thinking their bags wouldn't come with broken/defective products.

So I received my Bundle of Crops today and I couldn't be happier! Well I could, but only if I got a letter. Which I'm pretty sure I didn't. But nonetheless, here it goes:
4x Mp3 chargers
2x Times kids shirts
-One has a viking ship going up against a dragon wave
-One has little costumed creatures going through the forest with many monsters
6x Color Rub thingies
1x Tote bag
1x Baseball card that sounds suspiciously like my name.

All in all, a great haul. I thought the card was great, and the nephews loved the shirts and color kits, although we put 5 of them away for Christmas.

The kids on the right and left were rocking the shirts, and the one in the middle has the wrist and headbands from the last Bag, all with their drawings.

The baseball card players name is very close to my name.

All-in-all, its not the high-tech, super expensive stuff that makes the crap into a treasure. Its finding out yourself and the people around you can derive enjoyment from the crap you get! Thanks Woot!
