I got mine dropped at my door today and I live in Georgia. Great product, no scratches, snappy and quick. Only problem is that the Build Number is H.6.2-21-demo.1301415063. That means I can't upgrade to 3.2 and not to mention 3.1. Maybe there's a workaround?

Yeah, that doesn't sound good. This thread https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/50774?start=0&tstart=0 has tales of woe. Sounds like a non-US demo build. Are others getting this same build?

Great link. From that thread, it says that Motorola itself has sold refurbished units with a "demo" build. According to a Motorola representative, those ROMs can be flashed. It does seem that they will not automatically update even when you tell the phone to look for updates.

If everyone has a demo build, let's try to find a solution and post links here.

I found this link that might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049485. But I haven't a clue how to use them yet. Too tired, will check it out tomorrow.

Mine looks brand new except for a mark on the back that says it was refurbished by motorola. After turning it on and syncing my gmail to it, I got 2 updates, one to 3.1 and the 2nd to 3.2 (Build HTJ85B). Other than that it was bone stock. Ran a quadrant full bench for fun and got a 1673

Can you request a refund from Woot? "The Details" they provided were incorrect:

The Details:

■Google’s Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) operating system offers a multi-touch, holographic user interface

These units have Android version is 3.0.1

Equally important: Can I get a refund from Amazon for the leather case I just got in the mail? The one at my house that's a perfect fit for the Xoom I don't have yet...wife rolled her eyes so hard I thought they wouldn't come back to their normal forward-looking position.

If you follow the directions in posts above and elsewhere online, you should have no problem switching off of the demo builds and onto the normal ones, which will either be, or autoupdate to, the latest version.

Still waiting for mine in the mail! Hope it comes today!

It seems rather easy to flash updates manually, so I'd look into that before you return it. As mentioned above, once you flash to a normal version it will probably update normally after that.

I know a lot of people don't necessarily want or need to mess with flashing new ROM's or kernals, but it can be quite a rewarding thing to do. These tablets have quite a bit of power untapped and it will stand the test of time a bit better if you take advantage of some of the developer releases for the xoom.

Even if you flash he ROM, you will not change the built in MAC address. Therefore if you have a non-US unit it will not update. Check out this link Item#23

Mine arrived yesterday, in Atlanta.
Loaded with 3.0, quick update to 3.1, then to 3.2 within 20 minutes. The Unit looks new labelled on the back as "refurbished by Motorola". I am happy. Hope for timely delivery for all. cheaha bill

LOL. Amazon has always been great with returns for me -- within 30 days. They give you a label, cover the shipping costs, and don't have stringent requirements. Pretty any reason will do as long as you didn't break it yourself.

I just returned a leather case I bought for my Samsung Tab to Amazon, since I'm returning the Tab now that I am getting a Xoom. No hassles. Long live Amazon.

Just for reference, here's an explanation from Woot customer service about why there are no tracking numbers for a lot of us:

At this time, we do not have the tracking data for your order but Your order has likely shipped. We are in the process of obtaining tracking now. Since we had these drop shipped, the tracking is not always readily available. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your continued patience.

That explains it. I'm not worried about it. Thanks for the honesty, Woot! I don't need a tracking number, since I know that many other customers are getting them even earlier than expected. I'm happy regardless.

Glad to hear that not everyone has the "demo" problem. Definitely look into flashing. I believe one of the links posted had good instructions. There were a lot of steps, but easier than trying to exchange it.

Hope everyone's morning is off to a good start!

1. Was android 3.2 OS already installed?

2. Did the Xoom look like it was new?

The box looks new but has a sticker on the side that says "Motorola Certified Reconditioned/Refurbished". The plastic cover on the screen looks as a person placed it on not a machine and the back side looks laser engraved with Motorola Refurbished.

Unit came with 3.0 and quickly upgraded to 3.2. Nice and snappy and really enjoying it now!

Cheers and good luck getting your unit today

Got mine yesterday morning in Arkansas, the status changed to SHIPPED that afternoon AFTER it was shipped, so youse guys are probably getting yours real soon.

So it has and I see a lot of chatter about this, it says there are no updates, does someone have a SIMPLE link or explanation about how to update it? I tried the trick mentioned on a few sites, turn off automatic date and set the date a few days forward a few days reboot and try to update - still says no updates available.

How do I tell if it has the dreaded "demo" build others are mentioning? And again, is there a SIMPLE solution to it?

To my surprise I received mine when I got home last night (Alabama). I actually got a woot shipping update w/ a tracking number last night as well. It said the item had been delivered.

The box and unit look brand new other than the very small refurbished by motorolla on the back (in fact didn't notice until after reading these posts).

It came with 3.1 installed on it and after 5 minutes of playing with it I had a pop-up message for an update. Another 5 minutes and I'm running 3.2.

Overall I'm ecstatic about this purchase and surfed around all last night. I may upgrade to another tablet later but you can't beat the price.

My only beef (and not with Woot at all) is I can't seem to get the Bluetooth tethering working. I don't even have tethering options in settings. I'm thinking this is an issue with 3.2 from the little research I've done.

They just delivered mine a few minutes ago and I am in South Carolina. The build started with HW... no demo build here. Maybe the couple of demos listed here are the exception. I hope Motorolla takes care of your issue quickly guys. Looks like the support forum is the way to go for info on this problem. https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/50774?start=30&tstart=0

edit: one thing to note in the post, the forum moderator said that you could reload the software yourself: You could do it yourself -- the software for each country is on our MotoDev site.

that statement makes no sense. this devive has nothing to tether, nothing to broadcast, it can not go on the net standalone, IT IS WIFI ONLY! now connecting it to a wifi hotspot is possible, or even "tehering" it to ur android phones hotspot "android_AP" but i think u failed to notice the WIFI ONLY part of the device description..

From the description: Stereo Bluetooth® technology 2.1+EDR+HID (it has bluetooth)

I believe you can pair it with the phone and use the internet that way. There are several tutorials out there on how to do it.

I am from NW Indiana and have not received it yet. Based on locations that have received them already, I anticipate today or tomorrow. The FedEx truck usually makes it's way to my house around 1pm CDT. I have not received a tracking number yet.

I'm one of the victims of the "demo" build. I registered my Xoom on the Moto Support Site and then did a chat with a Xoom support person. His solution was to send it in for "evaluation and repair" under warranty, of course. I'm not happy about it but I guess it's a little better than missing out on the deal all together. I agree with others that this is very poor quality control on Moto's part. I have purchased many iOS devices and never had an issue like this. This is not the way to compete with apple.

I did notice it was WIFI only, hence the point of tethering when I'm away from WIFI.

Here's a link, it has been done on the Xoom:

Tracking numbers are overrated. It's much more fun to calculate your arrival date by mapping out everyone else's "I got mine!" posts - probably more accurate than a tracking number anyway.
