Can you check the units that are getting sent back/refused and, if they do not have the demo build, use them to replace some of the demo units some of us got?

Received mine today. It originally showed build HWI69, and then showed HTJ85B after the updates.

There is a small blemish on the backside but good as new otherwise. I could have not paid attention to the forums and been none the wiser.

btw, for those that have received units since the mass shipping notification, is the back engraged with a small "Refurbished" as the early recipients have mentioned?

I'm in the same boat here. I have no idea what's going on or when ours are going to ship. All the order status says is "You're All Set Now!" It's a little frustrating.

Not sure where in South Bay you might be but I just picked one up at the Staples in Torrance about 2 hours ago, going to give FedEx a call after work and have them turn my order back around.

I'm from the real Bay Area and when I moved to L.A., it was strange hearing people call that area the South Bay.

*** Update from woot! ***

Apologies for what appears to be a lot of confusion on what's going on. I have been working all day with our customer service group and what has turned out to be several "teams" at Motorola. You know how those big guys always have several "teams"... Sheesh!

We will have the final solution back from Moto either late tonight or tomorrow morning. I can report that about 23 or 24 wooters have received a unit with the "Demo Build" Firmware so far. Any number above ZERO chaps my arse but I assure you, Moto has been very quick to react to my demands and has even offered to call any wooter with an issue to apologize. While that would be nice, who has time for that? I don't want this to drag out because someone's playing phone-tag with my customers, do you?

I can promise that Moto will exchange any units with any issues quickly. I will post the final process (number to call, address to email, etc) tomorrow morning. In the meantime, continue to email service@woot.com (and put ATTN: agingdragqueen in the subject line) if you need a replacement so we can email you directly the solution and you won't have to keep checking back here, ok?

Thank you for your patience, and especially, thank you for your business.

One suggestion!!! If units have not been shipped at all (like mine), A faster shipping method would be nice.
Thanks

Those of us who ordered on the 14th haven't heard a word about when our units might be shipped. Any idea on a time frame? Next week? Next month? It's already been a week, I'd hoped to have heard something by now.

I managed to find a Staples with an in stock Xoom and picked it up. Still waiting on FedEx tomorrow for the refurb unit to see what to do with that one.

Also, got the Netflix APK downloaded and works like a champ!

This is a great tablet.

Anyone I missed- if you have a demo version- please email into service@woot.com with ATTN: agingdragqueen in the subject and send your serial number so I can pass that on to the guys still dealing with this.

Sorry again that this is taking a while, we're trying our best.

Power up the Xoom. Open your apps (upper right), open settings.
Go to About tablet
Go to Status

Serial number should be the next to last item on the screen.

FYI: the infamous Build number is on the About tablet screen, last item.

Ahhh man. I'm so upset now. Everything was perfect but the front camera takes pictures with a line near the middle that won't dissappear. I've cleaned the lense and everything and this line won't dissappear!!!!! I don't want to send it back and I will rarely ever use the front camera but I paid for a working Xoom and that's what I expected. What should I do?

First, make sure you have enabled installing from unknown sources. Open apps, Settings, Applications. Check Unknown sources. Return to main screen.

When the file download was complete there was a notification next to the clock in the lower left of the screen. If that is still there, touch the notification, then the filename. You should get a popup that will let you install.

If there is no notification, open the browser, touch the menu in the upper right corner, then touch Downloads. You should see the file there. If not, you may need to try downloading it again.

Get an RMA, send it back, print out the 100 dollar off coupon from Staples, go there and buy a new one for a little over 20 dollars more.
That's what I did. The 20+ dollars is a small price to pay for some piece of mind.

Ok, I have a few questions. I'm getting my Xoom tomorrow and I want to return it. How do I do this? Will I get all of my money back (including shipping)? I have never returned anything with Woot before. As for the Staples deal, can I get the Acer Iconia for $299 or is that excluded?

Go to p. 22 in the message postings and find the message below. Woot emailed me the same directions. As for the Staples coupon and the Acer Iconia, that model is not explicitly excluded on the coupon. Try it and tell your fellow Wooters how it works out.

I just received my email from Woot stating that I can just refuse the shipment, and allow 7- 10 days after Woot receives it to see the credit back. I called Fed-Ex, and since my package is still in route for delivery tomorrow, they issued a refusal ticket number and they will turn it around at the next destination it reaches. They also supplied me a Fed-Ex ticket number that I also sent to Woot for validation. I am pleased at Woot's ownership and actions.

Are you asking Woot to tell you about a deal at another store? I think the only exclusion from the deal is the HP Touchpad.

Maybe it's not a big deal for you, but are you aware that the Acer is a 16GB tablet and the Xoom via Woot is 32GB? I think I also read a post here that it is still at 3.0 although another source says it just got 3.1. Xoom is at 3.2 now. Bottom line, it's not a 1 for 1 trade. Also keep in mind that you will be paying sales tax so the actual difference in cost is something less than $100. In my area it would be more like $80.

Here's what the coupon says:

*Valid through 7/30/11 in Staples® U.S. stores only. Discount applies to tablets only, excluding the HP TouchPad tablet, Amazon Kindle® and NOOK by Barnes & Noble™

An RMA through Motorola (using the special telephone number they'll release shortly) will get you a replacement.

(Begin sarcastic rant in 3... 2... 1... NOW!)

So let me see if I'm getting this straight...

There are some folks here in Woot-land who are returning their Xoom tablets, even though:
1. Woot has not broken any promises or agreements with them;
2. They have not received a defective unit;
3. Some have refused delivery even though they haven't even seen if their units are amongst those affected (and the odds are they aren't);
4. Woot! informed everyone of a problem just as soon as they possibly could;
5. Woot! took ownership of the problem immediately;
6. As a sign of good faith Woot! is permitting any customer to return their unit directly to them against their stated policy and past practices;
7. They are accepting large-scale, unquestioned returns for no other reason than "buyer's remorse", which is probably a first for them; and
8. Several of the "returners" are bragging that they are going to spend their money elsewhere on a deal that they learned about here on Woot's very own discussion board.

Ok, now I get it. Woot! could have easily kept it all quiet, let everyone twist in the wind for a few extra days, solved the issue behind the scenes and not given literally everyone the option to return their purchase regardless of reason or cause. Frankly, there's quite a few companies out there that would have done just that. If you're sending back your Xoom for no good reason then that is nothing more than taking advantage of a company that is trying very hard to make things right for the few people who had a legit problem.

If anyone can recall just how this thread started out, one of the big questions that got asked several times was something along the lines of "I wonder why there are so many refurbs/returns of this device out there for Woot! to sell?".

I guess now we know why...

(...aaaand - DONE!)

Yep, that's a pretty good assessment of what is going on here. My favorites are the ones who are asking details about the Staples deal in the Woot forum. That's kind of like going into K-Mart and asking them about a deal at Walmart.

Oh, you could have added...
9. Are going to pay an extra $30 (in taxes) for the same device.
(sure, it's new, but I've had more trouble from new stuff than I have with refurbs)

Lesson learned by Woot: even when you bend over backwards to do the right thing, many of your (sarcasm) loyal (/sarcasm) Wooters will dump you anyway and even tell you that they are buying elsewhere in your forum, essentially poking you in the eye while saying "sorry, love you anyway". Such nice people.

Actually, it's not because of "buyer's remorse" they are allowing them to be returned. It is more because they don't want their reputation ruined because of the actions of Motorola. I will admit that I am returning my unit without checking it not because I have buyer remorse, but because of the uncertainty of receiving a defective unit and having to wait even longer for it to be replaced with a working unit.

Before the announced this action, I was saying this was my first and last purchase with them. But because of their response, I am willing to give them a second chance.
