tljx wrote:Considering PS3 games display at a refresh rate or 60 frames per second or lower, I very much doubt that. The picture likely appeared smoother on 120hz and 240hz because of the manufacturer's interpolation software. Whether this looks "better" is up for debate. Many people, myself included, don't care for the artificial smoothing features as it tends to make movement look unnatural. Some prefer it, some don't.

However, when watching movies and/or television that refreshes at a rate of 24 frames per second, 120Hz is preferable because of the fact that it is evenly divisible by 24 and therefore prevent what they call "jutter," which is caused by 60Hz units alternating between displaying a frame 2 and 3 times in a row. As for 240Hz and higher, it's pretty much a useless marketing gimmick.

Hey man. I was just comparing $499, $799 and $1499 with what I will be using it for. The goal replay on the 60Hz (Insignia I believe) would have the ball jumping and skipping all over the place. I am nowhere near as knowledgable as you. I am just trying to help and report what I saw :-).

I am really considering the TV, but is 60Hz enough? I just looked up my plasma, because I didn't remember what it's refresh rate was, and it is listed at 600Hz.

I wouldn't consider this as a main living room television since it is only 60hz, say what you will, but a quality 120hz display is simply superior to anything 60hz. Facts are facts, if you can't tell the difference, it is because of your eyes, not the displays.

I also wouldn't even think of using this as a PC display as it is big, the resolution is far too small and not nearly enough pixel density for everyday PC use, unless all you do is game, and even then, a quality LED monitor would destroy it in every category.

Don't compared plasma hz to lcd hz. Completely different animals. Read the comments above about 60 hz versus 120 hz, but 60 should be fine, especially for the price. Mostly people wouldn't even notice the difference and some people actual prefer 60 hz as the smoothing with 120 can cause things to look artificial. Don't listen to the guy talking about skipping with 60 hz when testing at the store. I believe he is trying to be helpful, but he is misleading people. Whatever skipping issue he encountered wasn't due to the hz, but probably the fact that insignias are pretty crappy.

Insignia is BestBuy's no-frills house brand so it generally lacks the picture enhancing circuitry of better brands. The jumping and skipping you saw may have more to do with processing power and enhancements than refresh rate. Even the LCD panels makes a difference. BTW, I appreciate your honesty, humility and first-person reporting.

At $370 it is awesome. However, the volume responds slowly...I mean it takes a while to turn up and down. No AV inputs. If you use a Wii you have to get a componenet adapter cord set. there are 2 component and 3 HDMI. Customer service e-mails are answered quickly, I have never tried to phone. And you must use the autoset feature for universal remotes becasue it will not identify Silo (I even asked them for the codes and they responded to me with emailed insturctions on how to use auto set.

Enjoy, they are going quickly! Oh, last time this was up a couple of people said theirs came with a broken screen. Mine came with a pretty roughed up box but TV was A-ok.

It has a composite video in and L/R audio in, isnt that what you need for AV input?

Too many people confuse "Flicker" with "Motion Blurr". They are 2 completely different inherent LCD TV issues, but people think motion blurr is from a 60hz refresh rate. Wrong!

You really can't compare an LCD TV with plasma or CRT. For example, neither plasma or CRT (yes, I have a first generation CRT HDTV!) are prone to the ghosting that LCD is famous for. And they also have much higher contrast ratios. LCDs lag because they create images by MECHANICALLY moving crystals suspended in a gelatinous liquid (LCD = Liquid Crystal Display). Plasma and CRT displays have no moving parts. A plasma cell is turned on and off like a lightbulb. Likewise for the phosphor pixels of a CRT. But none of this answers your question; they only mean to show you why you can compare refresh rates for the two technologies.

Generally speaking, 60hz is enough if you don't watch a lot of fast action scenes (i.e. sports, action-chase movies, fast video games) or use 3D technology requiring shutter glasses. I watch dramas. documentaries and the news so 60hzis just fine for me.

Very little on the 120Hz (LG uses proprietary technology) and none on the 240Hz. I couldn't afford the 240Hz so I got the 120Hz LG. Love it. Just my $0.02.

Refresh rate on most LCDs is really a moot (woot?) point. It's not a CRT. While you won't be pulling 3D on a 60Hz screen, it doesn't mean it's problematic for viewing. I have an older Sharp Aquos that's 60Hz with a 6ms pixel response time. I watch Blu-ray movies, play games on the 360 and PS3 and have zero ghosting or lag. It's 2011, not 1991 - pixel response is where it's at!
