DO NOT BUY THIS... I bought one the last time it was on woot, probably 4 months ago... and the bed started out great, but now the foam has sunk in where i sleep, and i can no longer sleep on my stomach without waking up with a soar back. my girlfreinds side of the bed is as good as new though... I read a bunch of negative comments on the forum before i bought it thinking people were full of crap and its gotta be a good bed.. I wish i wouldn't have bought it now, so in this case beleive the negative comments..

also while waiting to get this bed i watched the forum and there were a lot of people who bought the bed that said when they got it it didn't expand after unpackaging... don't buy this bed.

here's the last forum discussion about this same bed

We had to air ours out in a closed door room with the window open and the ceiling fan on it standing it up vertically for a week to air it out. The new smell of it made us sick, but once it was aired out, we were able to sleep better than we ever slept in our lives. I highly recommend a memory foam mattress. Don't even think of wasting your money on a cheap 2" or 3" topper because you think you'll be able to wash it. Those things fall apart if you try that!

I put about 1/2 a sheet of pegboard between one of these and the box springs.

Uh, we've had a memory foam mattress for about 5 years. An expensive "name brand" one. NOT good for ...um... the above questioned use. Stability, yes, if you stay in one spot... and neither person needs any... um... leverage?! And who doesn't want/need that?? Needs a kitchen table somewhere in the mix of materials to make it usable for the dirty deed (that phrase is so funny!!) Be sure to have another mattress around if you don't want to use the table or floor. Hoping on all that is good in this world that you do - want that leverage, that is.

Comfort issues are individual. The more universal problem I found with this type is the lack of support at the edges or boundary. You cannot sit on the edge easily as there is no special edge component in most of these.

I've had problems with back and shoulder pain in the past from back and side sleeping, and got a memory foam topper like this last year. HUGE improvement, I haven't woke up with a stiff shoulder since, and my back took about a week to get used to it and then sooo much better sleeping.

They do add a little maintenance to your bedmaking, the foam tends to creep around depending on how you toss and turn. Foam takes a few days to expand to full size, and there's a synthetic odor to it for a week or two that goes away.

It also adds a few inches to the height of your mattress, you may need to get a new mattress sheet. I got a new set of those with the large diagonal elastic bands on the underside and those work fine.

The price here is kinda high still though, I got mine (for a twin) for $80. I was expecting this one to be priced about double but it's more like triple. Check out prices on amazon.com before getting this one. Pay attention to thickness of the pad, it's directly related to the price. Try to get at least 2" thick padding.

And yes it does quite a lot with absorbing shock, we got a thinner sheet for work to set equipment on to prevent scratching it, and I was surprised to notice that things that were dropped in it would dead-fall. Screws that would normally bounce their way across the counter just *stopped* when they landed. Further testing by doing things like THROWING heavy tools down on the pad would yield a 1" hop and then a full stop, it's a sort of "non-newtonian" material if you understand that. It can help with eliminating partner movement.

You'll never get this thing folded into a futon. It's amazingly strong once it expands into shape, and very thick. If you lift one end of it, it picks up the whole thing very much like a regular spring mattress would.

It's only 2.5 inches of memory foam. The rest is the regular stuff. That's probably why it is so cheap.

It takes about 24 hours for the mattress to get to its full size. You will also want to put it in a room with windows and have a fan on to air it out. These things do smell, but if you give it a solid day with the fan on high, problem solved.

Just adding my two cents. I've had this mattress for about 4 months now, since the last time it was on Woot. Other than some light sagging in the center, I have been very happy with this mattress. I'm a side sleeper, and rarely wake up with back pain anymore.

The pillows are pretty OMGOMGOMGPONIESOMG PONIES! though, you'll want to replace them as soon as you can, but otherwise you truly cannot beat this deal.

Seems the biggest of the complaints is that it will sag over time...

Suppose I use it as a mattress in a guest bed. How would that work out?

Dud wrote:If you are seriously considering the purchase of one of these please consider the following:

This is NOT ... and I repeat NOT a memory foam mattress, this is a poly mattress with a 2.5 inch topper. I know, I have one. I got suckered into buying one of these almost two years ago and I paid much more for it. I was enticed by the fact that I could buy a "memory foam" mattress for a fraction of what a Tempur-pedic costs ... so I bought. I've been sleeping on one for two years and here is my take on them:

- They can run HOT, especially in the summer.

- If you sleep on your stomach your back may hurt in the morning (I know mine does).

- The matress feels like a Tempur matress until you depress the memory foam to it's full extent (2.5") and then the poly kicks in, making the matress feel very hard.

Did I mention that this is NOT a "memory foam" mattress? Think of it as a cheap poly mattress with a memory foam topper. IMHO the ONLY thing this deal has going for it is the price.

Hey, thanks for this quality post.

Shame on you woot for such a misleading product title. This is NOT what anyone would consider a memory foam matress -- this is a matress with a memory foam topper.

DISINGENUOUS at best.

Indeed, the description honestly states that it's "Composed of 2.5-inch advanced ‘next generation’ viscoelastic (memory) foam on a 7.5-inch polyurethane base." That 7.5" polyurethane foam may offer support for a few months but it will inevitably sag within a year.

Bought this last year, been sleeping on it since October. So far no sag and no complaints. It's cooler in the summer than our spring mattress was.

For the first couple of weeks I woke up with lower back pain. My wife loved it from the outset. But I haven't had any back pain since November.

Paid this price and didn't get the pillows. I bought memory foam pillows elsewhere for $15 each five years ago. I love mine, my wife hated it and quickly returned to her conventional pillow.

we have one of the Temperpedic ones about 10 yrs old at this point and doing fine. Previously had a plain, but high end foam. We always notice when we're away for a few days, vacation whatever, that getting back to our own mattress is just heaven. As to this particular offering from the comments the response sounds rather variable probably an indication of quality.
As to the sex question, yes no bounce but if you're into stability this is definitely for you. Mine's on a platform with the top waist high so regardless of what side's up it's always just the right height ;-)

Do you get too hot sleeping on a memory foam mattress?

myzticalmitch

quality posts: 0 Private Messages myzticalmitch

I have one of these. It takes about a full month to get the scent of the foam completely out of its system. I've been sleeping on mine for about a year and it has lost just a little bit of firmness but I think it has just adjusted to my weight. I weigh around 240. So every few months I rotate the mattress. Of course these things aren't built to last forever but, neither are other mattresses. I'm very happy with it. I haven't felt as good waking up on a normal mattress ever. The only problem I have is the bed sheets keep coming off since the mattress is thicker and the sheet doesn't tuck under. I may have to buy sheets for the next size up.

I bought the 8" last year and just don't like how much it sinks, especially if you are just sitting up in bed. Maybe the 10" will be somewhat better, but I doubt it. Wish I'd sent it back.

Make sure you buy a Gore-Tex liner. This is must for memory foam. If you spill you won't be able to dry it out.

Bought this mattress and followed all the instructions! Mattress never fully expanded in the middle so it sags in the middle of the bed. You end up rolling into your partner if you are sharing the bed with someone. Not as comfortable with the sag in the middle. It has been months since i bought the mattress and it just never expanded all the way.

I disagree. This is the typical memory foam mattress sold all over the place at around this price or higher. It just can't be compared to a Tempurpedic because of the enormous price difference.

I own an 11" Serta/Sleep Innovations mattress from Overstock which I've had for about 18 months. It's got a 3", 3.25lb density memory foam layer. I loved it at first, but since I mostly sleep alone it now has an indentation in the center where the foam has compressed. (I'm 5'10" and 330lb. so not everyone will get the amount of compression I've experienced.) When someone does sleep with me now, we both end up rolling into each other in the center of the bed. That's annoying if you like to spread out. I paid $380 for a queen size (with a 10% off coupon) so the Woot deal is pretty good.

Being a big guy, I wouldn't buy another memory foam mattress - they just don't hold up very long. I'll be going back to a traditional inner-spring mattress soon as my current girlfriend won't even sleep on the thing!

Quick FYI for potential buyers. Memory foam mattresses are HOT. As in, you will sweat like a pig against this thing.

I didn't listen to the warnings when I bought one last year. This summer has been rough.

I bought one the last time it was on woot. It is very firm. If you prefer a soft bed you will be disappointed. It has a mild smell that lasts for a while. The memory foam part is only a couple inches on the top, with the rest being normal, boring foam. It is very stable, allowing you to flop around on the bed without knocking over objects placed on it.

Not so much the missing bounce, but the inability to hold yourself up - no resistance ... your hands just keep sinking... and your arms give out.

I Concur With the Above Statements. Wife loves it - says it fixed her bad back, and now she actually sleeps on her back, which she never did before. I, on the other hand, have adapted to the firmness.

It makes MaMa happy :-)
