does it work with a mac?
or does it even get into the menu and advanced menus an original remote would do?
the nonsensical description does not imply this. or does it.

Is there a list of devices known to work (maybe not one maintained by the manufacturer)? Getting one for my dad would be nice, but he has an ancient TV and the only 2 other devices are the cable box and the WD HD Live unit that's currently being shipped....

I don't know if it is a bad thing or not, but it doesn't LOOK like a remote control, and I have an overwhelming feeling that my Grandmother would end up wanting to put a little tape inside it to record something, or would think it was an mp3 player or something and would randomly put it somewhere safe where electronics are supposed to go... and then I would never see it again.

Looks good... I like the backlit buttons. I bought one of the Phillips Prestigo remotes from woot! just over a year ago... no backlit buttons... may need to replace it with this one and sell the old one as I do watch TV in the dark a lot.

If your in the market for a Logitech remote this is a great alternative for less then half the price of Amazon.com Sale price. Great Deal!

Anyone know if this will work with a roku box that's usually where I get in trouble with Universal remotes.

Umm, I'm no trendsetter. To pay that much for a remote, I'd expect it to work with my jetpack.

The backlighting is nice, the touchscreen works well, they layout is decent and the price isn't bad at all BUT...

When I install a system for a customer, most of them being VERY non-technical, I go with the Logitech Harmony series. You can get a refurbished harmony for right at this price (sans touch screen etc) and it tracks the state of each device. When things screw up, the Harmony's 'help' button will ask simple yes/no questions so the user can get the system back to the state that all the macros function properly. This device does not have device state tracking. So if your plan is to give this to the parents, older folks or those non-technical, you may be better off getting them a Harmony, unless you want to deal with all the phone calls when something gets turned off, or they only have it pointed at the devices for part of the time the macro is running and it starts to fail.

If you are good at controlling your equipment and can figure out things when they go wrong, this is a nice and atrractive remote, and 18 devices, that's A LOT!

Also, the last time I used an Xsight the web interface for programming was slow and clunky, far slower than Logitech's which has gotten better over time.

EDIT: Syndll corrects me a bit here. This remote has the assist feature. It does not track power status however, so you will likely be using the assist a lot more than with the logitech which tracks the state of the device's power.

If the picture in the PDF (page 2) is an accurate representation of its shape/size, the battery should be easy to find replacements for. It looks just like one commonly used by Fuji, HP, Kodak, and just about every other brand in some model or other.

Here's what I think it is:

Yes, I does seem overkill, but the price is great! Sure beats 6+ remotes around th couch......then add all the play systems.

I had an Acoustic Research remote which required a web service to function. When that company folded, the remote became useless. AR's response to my request? Tough.
I would strongly suggest you consider how they stand behind their product before you decide to purchase.

I love my Harmony One. This may be something to research for the upstart bedroom. Hmmm... Kinda low amazon reviews..

From the product description:

Capable of learning commands from your old remote

It's a learning remote, so it's capable of controlling ANY device that you currently own an IR remote for. No need to ask, "will it work with...?"

I would love one of these if the kids didn't leave the remotes laying around and shoved in between couch cushions. My advice, buy one but don't have kids!

From Amazon reviews:

NOT MAC COMPATIBLE. If you own a Mac, you will not be able to use the software and set this thing up.

Sooo, reviews say it doesn't work with Win7. but the PDF that woot provided specifically stated that the database online does (Though only in IE).

Is the cheap price worth the likely frustrations that will come with, decisions decisions.

Nice looking remote. Seems to do everything the Harmony One does but the one thing that pushes me away from this is the way to set it up. Though you could use the on the remote setup it probably uses generic commands instead of something like setting it up on the computer where you can get the right commands for the right TV. The problem arises is that the only way to set it up on the PC is through a website that can just disappear whenever it wants. This being on woot there is a slight chance they would disappear since they are probably not selling on Amazon.

Well there is another reason and it's that TAXSUCKS doesn't work. I'm short 2 Cents... I will donate those 2 Cents to you Woot. Make TAXSUCKS work.

I have a separate sound system. Does anyone know if you can program the volume buttons to stick to the external speakers rather than try making the volume turn up on the TV or whatever else I am using.

TAXSUCKS seems to work only on items above $45 for some people, and then for items above $40 for others. Even on the SAME ITEM for sale, it seems to vary. I emailed service but they never responded to why some get to use the code for orders $40 or up and others have to spend $45...

In either case, this item adds up to $39.99 after shipping, so it wouldn't apply at all here.

Which is why I would like to donate 2 Cents.

The manual also specifically states that it will work with Windows 7. Says it works with XP (w/ SP3 and .NET Framework 3.5 installed), Vista, and 7. Does not work with Windows 2000. Requires IE6 or later.

Yeah, but I wanted to vent I buy enough stuff here, and it doesn't make sense that a user from New York where shipping costs more (Texas to New York) gets TAXSUCKS for $40 and over and Texas users get TAXSUCKS for $45 and over when shipping to Texas from Texas is (presumably) a lot cheaper.

Even with the shipping and Tax, this is still a very good value, it is new not refurbished as well.

I have the version that isn't a touchscreen (which is the only difference). I've probably had it for two years now, and it's still going strong. It's been dropped repeatedly, chewed on by a mastiff, and just overall not treated like a delicate little computer, but it refuses to die. It can be a little confusing to program, and it's not the most ergonomic device in the world, but I paid much more than $35 and I've been happy with it, and for $35, it's a great deal.

I use it to control my 360, Panasonic Blu-ray, Sony Bravia TV, DirecTV box, and surround receiver. I haven't tried it on my bedroom Roku, but I'm sure it'd control that too.

I read the PDF Manual. "Learning" feature does NOT work like many others - place thsi remote an danother head-to-head. It still appears that AR has to have data.

I have a new SILO and codes are non-existent

Actually on page 35 of the manual it describes an "Assist" button that appears when operating macros. After pressing the button, it will ask you what the problem is, for example "No sound" or "No picture" and then will sync back up from there.

Anyone know if this would control something like a HDMI Switch? The On/Off and switching between channels?
