Yeah, I was just thinking today about how I need a big USB drive. The first thing I saw was a wall of bad reviews on this one.

Looks like an ok deal but I refuse to ever buy another USB drive that has a cap which can be lost. After having a USB drive with a swivel cover, I'll never go back to a design with a stinking cap....never.

The last time the Centon showed up here at woot it was pretty poorly received. The reviews at Amazon tend to show the same. Many complained of data loss, etc. I wouldn't get one of these for anything important at all.

Got to the last few pages of the previous woot! discussion you will see a lot of people complaining that there drive was DOA or failed shortly after.

Wow, I feel old, (and not with the times)... especially when I go... they make 32 GB USB drives now?!!?

Got this woot back in early March for $29.99

Holding up very well and works like a champ! Only issue I've found is that the sides are so slick that sometimes my pudgy chip greased fingers can't pull it out of the USB port in my computer...

My thoughts exactly. The size is great but that cap is a liability. I need to replace my 4GB Titanium Cruzer too :\

Got a 16GB on Woot some time ago. Best thing I can say is that it works. But it is SLLOOOWWWWWW.

I had the 16GB one and was not happy with the read/write speeds.

There are tons of duplicate reviews in that listing and a 5 star review that says 'Dont trust this company'! Google fail!

How the hockey sticks can you have a flash drive that doesn't work correctly?

I got this one of the last times it was up, lost my cap, e-mailed the company and they sent a free replacement. Doesn't come with a lanyard or keychain keyring, but at this point, I have so many flash drives that I just got a case for them all. Transfer speeds are pretty good on this, though it's no USB 3.0 speeds. If you're looking for a new drive or for more drive capacity, pull the trigger on this, it works for both UNIX-based and NT-based operating systems. (Mac and "PC" for you non computer folks) 32 GB is sufficient for a full blu-ray movie if you're trying to transfer your movie files from one computer to another.

Not a great deal, New3gg,com has a Mushkin for $34AR and Buy,com has a TDK for $36.

32GB is potentially a lot of personal data to be lost (or stolen)..... two words (or is it only one?) - True Crypt. http://www.truecrypt.org/ Protect your stuff.

I don't entirely grasp the purpose of a 32 Gig Flash Drive. If you need to move vast quantities of data then just buy an external hard drive.
For 30 bucks you're halfway there already. Might as well throw down another 30 and get a 500gig external and have ~15 times the storage space without sacrificing much in the way of portability.

The company will send you a free replacement cap if you register it, most of the companies focus on customer service at this point. Perhaps you didn't get the memo.

Since my car radio can read MP3S from these, I'm in for three.

The only way to not lose the cap in a week is;
A) superglue cap on(rendering it useless but without lost parts)
B) duct tape cap on... I as stated in above condition
C) plastic zipper bag (when cap falls off, and will still be contained in bag)
D) throw cap away at arrival (it never came with a cap)

If you don't see where I am going.. I and you tl;dr's... you WILL LOSE THE CAP

Nice try, Woot! I've lost too much data to crummy knock-off no-name flash drives. I'm sticking to my name brands from now on. Its not like they're that much more expensive in the end anyways. :-P

A free one, only to lose again. A detachable cap is a bad design, not worth the hassle, IMO.

I bought one of these a while back on Woot. It has worked great, so I was surprised to see the bad reviews on Amazon. I keep waiting for something bad to happen, but it hasn't. I've used it to back up large audio tracks from my studio in WAV format. Also handy to transport tracks to another studio for mixing or whatever. Wondering what caused a problem for those folks on Amazon.

I'm totally stopped by the bad reviews.

With Mac OS X Lion's built-in full disk encryption feature, you can format the drive into an encrypted volume. this could have been a great portable digital safe. But not if it loses data.

(Yes if you do what I say, you must make sure all your computers who need to access this drive are Macs and run Lion)

Like the kid from Modern Family said in that commercial for Staples (or was it Office Max)... "Will wonders never cease?!?!"

35 bucks from Microcenter, so 5ish more dollars if you want it now.

Looks like all the bad reviews for this company came in at the end of 2010 and until Jan 2011. Haven't seen any bad reviews on sites since then which lends me to believe they had a bad manufacturing batch. Mostly good reviews only a few DOA or Malfunctions in the bunch from then till now. I say the chances of having a working product is pretty good if this batch is a fairly new batch i.e. post Feb 2011. Just reformat to NTFS, don't put anything larger than 4GB on it and don't expect it to be fast.

A note for those impatient types...

Motherboards rarely go bad in computers, but when they do it has been my experience that it is usually a result of a damaged USB port. Many of my customers have tried to jam a thumbdrive or usb device into the port carelessly and ended up bending the pins and shorting out the port. This can result in a completely dead mainboard, but more often and more frustrating to troubleshoot it results in random freezes, reboots and crashes! I have replaced at least three pc's this year that after lots of trial and error were found to have a damanged usb port. Replacing the mainboard fixed all the problems. In one case I was able to disable the on board usb, add a PCI based usb card and the system continued to function.

So, in case you are just skimming, BE CAREFUL when inserting and removing your USB devices!,! This holds ESPECIALLY true on those dual all in one eSATA/USB ports many small notebooks use.
