I didn't buy this deal (Got one @ Walmart for $312 after tax using the Staples coupon) but here's some tips when you get yours:

After initial setup, find the Updates app and use it. All touchpads in channel have WebOS 3.0 and the 3.0.2 update was pretty significant. You'll need wifi and more than 50% battery charge to do the update. It can download in the background while the battery charges.

When the update is complete and your touchpad has rebooted, re-run the Updates app to get the revised versions of some apps, like Kindle. Apps with updates will be flagged. You can have multiple app download/updates going on simultaneously.

Set up your Box.Net account using the BOX application. 50GB of free cloud storage is a Good Thing(tm).

Get a couple of the good free apps: Robotek HD is a fun game, Spaz is a nifty twitter client, and Newsweek (Usa Today? I forget) has a good free "e-magazine" app. Preader is a multi-format e-reader app.

"Root" your Touchpad by typing in the Just Type box: webos20090606 It will bring up a Dev Mode icon; enable Dev Mode and you now have full admin access to your Touchpad. You don't have to set a password; that's a enterprise-friendly feature HP added that lets companies lock out dev mode on company-owned devices. Maybe a good idea if you have a child/significant other who thinks they are a "hacker" who just messes up gizmos.

Go to WebOSinternals.org and look for the Preware installation instructions. Follow the 2nd installation instructions, the ones that use WebOSQuick Install as it is the smallest/fastest download.

PreWare is an OTA app "store" with about 400 free/beta apps and some touchpad "patches" that reconfigure some aspects of WebOS.

I'd recommend the KalemSoft Media Player as it enables playback of some other video formats and Internalz Pro, a file browser that can even look at protected folders.

The hacker types will want to add Terminal to get direct access to the Linux underpinnings.

Put your Woot Order number in the big box, then select your country from the drop-down and fill out your destination postal code.

Thanks for this information, I found my item has shipped and will be here on the 18th.

use your order number to search on Fed Ex tracking, using the order number as a reference #.

Sadly still no info for mine. Guess 'tough love' = we aren't shipping yours. Hah!

Seems many can track their shipment, but nothing comes up for me. WOOT is also very slow to respond - still waiting a response.
Doesn;t come across as good service to charge a card well before shippigng and then be unresponsive.

Not sad - just frustrated with WOOT.
They can;t seem o provide any information on this order.

Yeah, it's my first experience with Woot, and I'm deeply disappointed. They charged my card immediately (a definite no-no), then scolded me for sending an email requesting status because I didn't wait five *business* days. But I did, because I count the day they charged my card! Still nothing yet on FedEx or the Woot site.

Has anyone else had any success getting information if your refernce number doesn't bring up anything with FedEx?
Got a response from Woot, but that was just a rude response stating, in a rude way, this is being drop shipped and they can't help.
Would have been nice if they were transparent about this from the start.

I forwarded my original confirmation to services@woot.com.
Within 24 hours, I got a reply with a specific tracking link for FEDEX.
I 'should' have mine on the 18th.

Humm, using your link took me to my info. My TP is here in town, on a truck, waiting to be delivered next business day, meaning Monday. The Fedex facility is not 10 minutes down the road. Think I may try to run down there and pick it up.

Nice.

Why couldn't woot! have told me that?

Picked mine at the facility. So far it's working great! Very nice tablet. I'm anxious to get Preware loaded and some patches installed. I don't think you will be disappointed once you get yours. Very good screen resolution. I'm looking forward to seeing what all it can do.

According to FedEx, mine was sent from Woot at the very end of the 4th biz day, and will be at my destination hopefully by the 7th biz day (Aug 17). Not sure why it took so long for Woot to send it out...

We all ordered on the 5th. Have you tried using your order # as a reference tracking # on Fed Ex? The results don't populate for me unless I put in my country and zip code as well.

Mine arrived today at 8 AM (FedEx has never been that prompt); exactly 5 days after ordering.

The device is shipping from Doral, FL. They seem to be shipping straight from HP as mine was delivered in an HP box (which still contained part of the shipping label from the HP manufacturing plant in China).

The packaging is very small, so it could easily be overlooked. I know FedEx doesn't always deliver packages to my front door (sometimes FedEx and I like to play "eye-spy with my with little eye...a package in the recycling bin!"), so be sure to check the usual drop off places around your home/office.

Aside from that, everyone should be getting their TouchPad within the next couple of days, if not today (assuming you live near Florida).

Did you TouchPad notify you of the 3.0.2 update, or did you simply update to 3.0.2 on your own. When I run the Update program, it says my device is up-to-date, even thought it is in fact running webOS 3.0.

Just as a note, you have to go into the App Catalog and download the "Box for TouchPad" app in order to take advantage of this offer.

question about the box storage- how does it work? Can I dump 50gb of movies and music on it and play it easily enough on my touchpad?

I think you really underestimate HP's commitment here. They're talking about putting WebOS into EVERYTHING -- phones, tablets, printers, computers, you name it. And they've actually started to do it.

They wanted a mobile OS, and they bought this one. I don't think they're just going to let it go.

Same story & I've done this many times with other items & had success. Nothing here. No results, no tracking #.

I don't care that it's not here yet, what I care about is the fact that I can't even give my wife an estimate on when the device will be in her hands.

Based on some delivery feedback on here by other wooters, I'm going to hold off a day or two before emailing woot, but if anyone is moderating here, it would be nice to have an update. ;)

Hmm... Apple's OS's are definitely not the best thought-out, or easiest to use. But to each his own.

Apple just tells people what they want to hear, and then all the little hipsters out there just believe it. When Apple touted "Copy and Paste" as a brand new innovation, already-Apple owners were wowed. But everyone else in the real world knew that copy and paste had existed (even on dumb phones) for years.

Don't even get me started on what Apple tells you multitasking is... What a joke.

Apple's strength lies in their marketing; NOT their innovation like they'd have you believe. And if you already believe that, then you're just naive, and not worth me spending any more time to try and open your eyes.

WebOS is far superior to any Apple mobile OS, in almost every way. The only thing it lacks is popularity, but it's gaining that. Especially with all of us here that purchased the TouchPad.

Its open architecture is more of a blessing than most people are aware. Seriously people, when you get your TouchPad, learn how to install PreWare on it, and you'll be blown away at how much you can make your TouchPad completely perfect, and customized to YOU.

WebOS is truly what innovation looks like. They didn't copy anyone. They redesigned the mobile user's interaction guidelines from the ground up, and what came out was genius. Get to know it, learn how to use and configure it, and you'll be truly wowed at all of what WebOS is.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is a website/software program for windows where you can see what WebOS apps there are for the touchpad?

Not sure if there is a site for official apps in the catalog, but here is a link to the homebrew apps your can install after installing PreWare: http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-apps.

Welcome ;)

I just received a tracking email. When I clicked the fedex link, I noticed that the reference number was my order number followed by a {space} and the letter "z". That may be why I could never track it by reference number.

In any case, according to the tracking form, my TouchPad was delivered today.

[This is me logging out and headed home ]

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. You might try to use your woot order number to Track by Reference. You shouldn't need an account number.

Mine came in today. Can't tell if it's DOA, or just that the battery has no charge. When I plugged it in, there was no indication that it was charging. On the right side of the face, the panel had been popped out of the case, so there was a ~2mm gap. I pressed lightly on it, and it snapped into place, but I think this guy might have been damaged in shipping. No sign of impact on the packaging.

Can anyone tell me if these things do not respond at all until the battery is charged?
