Any idea as to when this will ship? Will it take the full 5 business days?

I'd expect it to take at least that. Woot's not known for speedy shipping- not that I'm complaining- the tradeoff for a great price I suppose.

Thanks for responding. The reason I ask is that I see some orders of the iRobot roomba have already been shipped which was on sale after the touchpad. Is there a general rule of thumb that the more expensive items take longer to ship or is just dependent on how quickly Woot get stock? (i think I may have just answered my own question :p )

There's no rhyme or reason... I'm expecting mine on or befoer the 26th- totally arbitrary but hey, that's what I think.

I am glad I am not the only one that was wondering.

Oh, you'll be doing a lot of that. It takes some time to ship, for sure.

quality357 wrote:The kindle app is terrible you can't even load mobi format books on your machine and make them work.

Get Preader, it handles PalmDoc/Ereader/Mobi/Epub/Kindle AZW/TXT/HTML as long as they are not encrypted.

There is literally a total of about 10 games available on the app store.

You must have a filter setting because there are a lot of games in the HP app store. There should be 10 Facebook games from Moblyng alone.

If you search on Gameloft you'll find many 3D games like Assassin's Creed, Driver, Earthworm Jim, Brother in Arms, Avatar, NOVA, Hero of Sparta, Dungeon Hunter, and Castle of Magic.

Hey, look, there's 10 games there, too. SparkleHD gets a lot of attention too, but I haven't played it.

The pre apps run in a mini window and don't even scale like in the new iterations of honeycomb.

The existing qHD Android devices means that most Android apps had graphics designed for 960x540 screens, which makes the Honeycomb scaling pretty simple. Going from the Pre 320x480 resolution to Touchpad 1024x768 would require a 400% pixel count increase, which looks...horrible.

The 3.0.2 update included support for multi-device packages, which means that as devs update their apps with high-res images they can also add a larger-screen mode that runs in almost full screen. There was a developer write up on either PreCentral or WebOS Roundup a few weeks back, so hopefully those improvements will be rolling out.

You could be on T1 connection and your browser would still load slow and lag heavily on this thing. I am not impressed at all.

You know that a 1.5Mbit T1 connection is slower than virtually all cable models, LTE 4G cellular, some DSL connections or even a really good 3G cell signal, right?

But you are right, the browser is a little laggy. I hadn't really noticed because I generally use the "open in new browser" and spawn new windows rather than forward/back between pages.

However I wasn't happy with the stock Android browser either and upgraded to DolphinHD.

I'm eyeing "Advanced Browser", for the Touchpad ($2) but I haven't used it yet, I'm trying to see how well the stock apps work before I buy replacement apps.

I'm happy you put him in his place. People judge this thing and they don't even know what it is. WebOS is a far superior operating system. If people would just spend a few minutes to learn its advantages they'd be sold.

I'm hoping it comes way before the 26th. That's quite a bit longer than 5 business days! Can anyone shed any light on how long it usually takes for items to be delivered to California once shipped? Where does Woot normally ship items from?

filpenny

quality posts: 9 Private Messages filpenny

It usually ships within 5 days... AKA they initiate the shipping process within 5 days, not that it'll arive in 5.

It ships smartpost, from Texas. Unless these are shipping straight from HP..

Smartpost is the slowest shipping service I've ever encountered.

I've gotten a few woots in my day. Always takes a long time to ship. But hey, what do you expect for $5.

Yeah I probably got too excited. I realise that

so typically 2-7 business days according to their website? Texas to California you reckon no more than 4 days?

That's true except I beginning to regret this purchase considering HP has permanently cut the Touchpad's price to $399.

Agreed, esp. with Massachucetts having a no-sales-tax weekend. Ah well, so it goes.

It has been 6 days since I ordered the tablet. What gives

As a first time Woot! user, and buyer, I'm regretting my impulse purchase more with each passing day. Not because I ponyed up for an HP TouchPad, but because I view these kind of shipping delays as unwarranted, unethical and just plain bad business practice.

Guess I'm into "instant gratification", and too used to getting what I pay for, when I pay for it. It's complete, utter BS for a company to take money from my PayPal account, when they don't have the product available, let alone within 5 days. Woot! gets to fondle my cash, capitalize it for other deals, and all I get is to clock-watch. Pffffft.

If and when I get my purchase, I'm fairly certain -- after this experience -- I won't be coming back to Woot! for what I want.

OK, let me break it down for you guys- it's been 4 business days since ordering. Woot makes no guarantees about shipping in 5 business days, just that that's how orders typically go out. The products will come, but they will not come faster or slower depending on how much you complain.

Woot! has been using smartpost for years, go look at any other product sold on this site and you'll see the same thing- first time buyers wondering when it's going to ship. It'll ship at some point, and you'll get your tablet. It's just the way it is.

Wish I had noticed that these got cut to 400 before ordering. Could have bought via amazon prime and already had it. I haven't ordered a woot in a long time (years) and I guess they got slow as hell in the meantime. Tried cancelling but I was told that my order was about to ship... Two days ago. I think this will be my last woot. Too bad its gone so far downhill.

Defend all you want. I'm a long time woot customer, and I don't buy nearly as much as I used to because they used to use smartpost a lot more sparingly.

I have a TouchPad, so I'm not concerned here, but my wife is, and my mother-in-law...and guess what, they don't bug woot, they bug me to bug woot. So, there you have it. Woot, I'm bugging you.

It used to be when you ran a more expensive item, that you put a lot more effort into shipping quick. I know, I've bought some BIG stuff from you guys. Heck, even a year ago I think we got a Kindle practically overnighted.

So, I get it takes some time & that was my expectation, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't at least try to cater to the expensive items as you used to.

Any update here on where these orders stand? We ordered my wife & m-i-l accessories direct from HP on Monday, we got them yesterday (Wednesday). It was standard shipping, no frills.

Smartpost to Indianapolis usually means I'll wait 2 more weeks from the date of shipment. That's carp. At least give me the option to pay more for shipping. I will.

PS-Love you guys, woot. But sometimes every now and then, I think you need some tough love & need to try and BEAT expectations.

Cheers.

LOL, I agree to that, perhaps my expectations are jaw-droppingly low given my past woot experiences

Sent a message earlier regarding shipping and just got a response. They said they are shipping from their vendor(?) via Fedex Ground and should have tracking uploaded by Friday.

You can now track it via FedEx. Just use your order number as a reference. They appear to be shipping from Miami, FL. Expected delivery to CA is Tuesday 16th.

Thanks IronSword, I didn't even know you could search via reference.

I am in Virginia and mine says it will get here Monday 15th-

You're welcome. Now you know (don't know if you can search via reference if Woot uses another shipping company though)

rngrnewton wrote:why hasn't mine shipped yet?!?!

Not sure. Maybe yours will ship first thing Friday morning. If you can't search using your order number as the reference by early Friday afternoon, just send Woot a message. They responded to my enquiry in less than 2 hours. You just wanna make sure you catch them before the weekend otherwise you'll be left wondering and constantly checking Fedex tracking (well I would be anyway :p )

Mine is set to arrive tuesday... can't wait! At first it wasn't showing up but I re-opened the fex ex site and searched for the reference, looks like it hit the road yesterday morning.

I find that happens a lot with online retailers (not just woot).

I've ordered overseas stuff before and had it delivered to my door while my status says 'preparing to ship'.

Why not put shipping time in your stats? Watch your orders drop!

Did you search with your order #? No luck?

My status does not show to have shipped, and doing a FedEx tracking via my Woot reference number yields no results. I've bought maybe a dozen things thru Woot (and I live in Texas) but this will likely be the last time.

getting tired of this....
No problem taking the money out of my account within seconds of purchase, but not updating me on status of order for 6 days????
Epic Fail much???

No dice for me on FedEx reference lookup. How about an update, woot?

Well, I'd imagine all the boxes will hit the mail today, although who knows when the order'll be updated.

Me too. Amazon has the greatest delivery, never had to wait longer than about 4 days. Never ordered from Woot before. I agree, they take your money quickly, and to the person who said the more you complain the longer you wait.
Not good business practice.

Everyone just go here: https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking

Put your Woot Order number in the big box, then select your country from the drop-down and fill out your destination postal code.
