I have the tomahawk. Overall quality is pretty awesome besides the stitching coming apart on the sheath. Besides that I feel ready for camping in the mountains or zombie hordes.

I think they come free in a box of Mountain Men Jumping Jacks

I would like to offer a "what??" to this discussion. I guess this is an urban style play for people who imagine they might camp one day?

So, 2 for Tuesday - it's only 100 bucks for two sets, right?

These items are now made in China, and don't generally get very positive reviews.

Used the mini shovel once in wet clay and it bent immediately. The kit is much lighter than most you will get though.

The very first thing I thought of when I saw this picture: Team Fortress 2's Soldier.

You said it... SOG has gone the way of many others - traded their soul for greed. Sad. I have some of their early stuff - really top notch.

Could someone tell me from their past experience how long it takes for a product to arrive? especially someone from say...the west coast?

Well, if it weren't SOG. And 50 bucks. And i wanted camping tools to look silly instead of use....

The axe and saw/knife are pretty good, but unless they have changed it the shovel is pretty much worthless. Broke the first time I tried to use it to dig out a fire pit. No bueno

I really want this.
But I have absolutely no use for it.

Good thing I have impulse control.

$35 for just the Axe on amazon and the reviews look pretty positive to me: http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialty-Knives-Tactical-Tomahawk/dp/B00438RI7S/

Also, I too have used the Entrenching Tool on wet clay - as long as you remove a reasonable amount at a time it works perfectly. (This isn't a full on work shovel and clay is pretty darned heavy.)

Edited to point out that the amazon link is the correct item woot is selling despite the "Tactical" in the name.

3 days to 2 weeks. Depending on how and when they ship it, to the Midwest. Probaly same distance. But with "smartpost" its really hard to tell and unreliable. But it will get there. Eventually.

Ah, I see that the "serial.killer.woot" set is on sale again.

Remember when using the axe to swing hard to get through the bone...

um, so I've heard.

You can read all about this equipment, and other SOG specialty knives at their online store.

You can also see that if you paid retail, this kit would cost you about $110.00 plus shipping.

And if your really curious, you can see the designer of the FX-21 posing with his "blade" while giving you his best "don't mess with me in the woods" look. Check it out here.

The description makes a point of saying this is not the Tactical Tomahawk but is a lighter alternative. So, I don't think the reviews you refer to mean much... those reviews are for a stouter item.

I bought a similar set for 39.99 back in February from Woot. Definitely not worth it.

The timing is perfect. I am going to include this in my daughter's back to school pack when she starts her senior year of high school in a week. I understand they are going on a field trip to look for Big Foot!

I used it in mildly loose soil and it bent immediatly. I repeatedly tried contacting SOG to get a replacement and they never responded.

DO NOT BUY! Unless you like supporting awful product and even worse customer service.

I'm too cool for a signature.

I wish woot would quite selling this set. Am I the only one who has felt like Woot does not have very interesting things for sale anymore.

I love dangerous stuff made with high quality. But this is just silly and expensive.

Aha! There are multiple kinds of SOG Tactical Tomahawks!

Who knew? Not me. And not Woot, evidently, or else they would not have said this isn't one. I say "live and learn from fellow wooters" is a code we can all live by... including those at Woot-HQ who might wanna clarify their iffy disclaimer.

Going by the model numbers, and going by amazon reviews (???) it appears that the cheaper Tactical Tomahawk is decent but not as good as the better one, and can be had for $34.98 delivered... which is only $2.58 less than the good one. Meanwhile, the knifee-thing that they call a revolver (isn't that a kind of gun?) is also decent and can be had for $27.31 delivered... for a grand total of $62.29 delivered (for those who are Prime anyway).

So, this wootastic deal will not only save you $7 and change, it will also get you a worthless shovel (http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialty-Knives-F08-N-Entrenching/dp/B0038A05X6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top).

According to amazon, everybody absolutely hated the crappy shovel except for one guy who thought it was great because it came with a free hat and (get this) a free decal! Looks to me like it comes down whether you want the shovel to dig or not. Also, I think we need to know of this wootorama come with a free hat and decal...

OK, I was in the Army in the '80s. The entrenching tool that we were issued was BULLETPROOF!! I have NEVER seen one broken. Period! Dirty, messy, paint scuffed off, yes. But broken? NO!! Just didn't happen.

So, If I'm hearing about an entrenching tool breaking? It ain't gonna happen.

(Entrenching tools are made for digging trenches. That's where they got the name. You wanna try digging a trench with these?)

Sorry, passing!

The revolving knife also gets a decent review at Amazon, but the shovel does not.

A shovel has to be sturdy. It just does. Otherwise how can you put confidence in your swing as you bring down the blade edge-first on the bad guy's head?

If the local military surplus store has shovels ... real military surplus shovels ... you're far better off with a few of those.

- one for the back of your vehicle for when you're stuck in sand/mud/snow;
- one for hacking through the ice when your hot tub heater dies;
- one for under your bed when your anti-gun relatives show up with their rude kids who get into everything and would blow their fingers off if you left a firearm within reach while you sleep....

I've used all 3 products.........and they all suck. The 'hawks handle will break with one bad hit when thrown, the shovel bends and the knife won't stay locked in the handle properly. Basically, SOGs qualiry has gone down massively in the past few years.
