cmiddl01 wrote:How does this do with lots of dog hair? I have a german shepherd who sheds like crazy. I feel like 10 minutes after I sweep that there are 10 more tumbleweeds. I was thinking a roomba would be nice to turn on for every other day type cleaning, not intense cleaning...

It does great with dog hair. I have 2 shedders and run mine frequently. Just be sure to keep the brushes and bin cleaned after every use.

and "bundle of crops" is? lol

If you have not looked on yourtube at the roombas in action you should not make fun. Yes they can work with an ipod and everything in between...especially cats.

A couple years ago they showed up just about every 3 weeks and these and Sansa MP3 players and ridiculously expensive knives became the running joke of woot-offs. Then there was a period of at least 6 to 8 months with no roombas; and the people were sad. Then the woot gods started up again - hence the tone of the write-up.

There aren't any rules. Usually they last two or three days. Usually the Bundle of Crops is around 1620. Usually the monkeys or lights are the last thing. Usually there's not a day off in the middle.

All of these have been violated in the two years I've been watching.

I think it's just awesome that included in the box is a "virtual wall". What about a virtual Scarlett Johansson to empty it when it's full? You guys just rock!

If you grow bored with it there are ways to make it more interesting here:

My favorite is making it into a live action Frogger(TM) game and going out to play in traffic =)

I bought 1 of these from hammacher schlemmer for 2x's this price about 3 years ago. It comes with a LIFETIME guarantee from them. I did this cuz after buying several woot versions & they'd die I figured this would pay off. Well, I have returned mine 3X's for new exchanges @ approx $30 ship costs, seems like a good deal to me! :D bwaaahaha

I don't know anything about this product, but I have seen videos of cats riding on top of them. I might get one just to see if my cat would. Who cares if it really works or not! I would have hours of free entertainment and so would my cat!

Not sure, but this one only has one virtual wall as compared to the 560, which has 2. Very tempted on this one, but SO love our 560!!

Do you keep the battery plugged in or do you plug it in just before you use it?

He's got a little dock that he returns to after he's done cleaning...charges himself. Have to keep the dock station plugged in (and, in our case, "poster-puttied" to the floor).

I bought two of these on Woot about 2 years ago, one for me and one for my mother-in-law. We both love them, and their cleaning is fairly impressive (although neither of us have dogs), but both became unusable after about a year... they would just slowly scoot backwards and/or spin in place. In both cases, it was the right-side bumper sensor: for some unknown reason, they used an optical sensor instead of a cheaper (and more reliable, apparently) leaf switch, and the IR LEDs get dim and burn out over time. This made it think it was bumping into something constantly. Fortunately, I'm an electronic engineer and have access to lots of different IR LEDs at work... I was able to find a drop-in replacement and fix them both. I wouldn't recommend this unit to a typical consumer, though, unless they've changed their bumper sensors.

The Roomba is one of the few 'gimmicky' type devices that I have bought and actually exceeded my expectations. I have the 540 model, one step above this, and it does a great job of keeping my hardwood floors clean. I noticed less dust around the place when I started using it routinely. Even though I'll have a computer cable or two laying on the floor it usually manages to find its way off of them without getting stuck.
